Title: Casting for Warbreaker
Post by: AGrey on June 19, 2009, 05:48:41 AM
Ok, reading warbreaker, and I would like to nominate Neil Patrick Harris (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000439/) to play Lightsong when a movie is made of this book.

Anyone have any other ideas for good actors for these characters?

Mickey Rourke (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000620/) would make a great Clod. Still working on some of the other ones.

Couple of suggestions off the top of my head....

Siri- Natalie Portman
Blushweaver- Salma Hayek

Its been a while since I read the book, but if I remember correctly the returned come back larger then normal humans.  Granted that can be done with camera tricks, but it would be easier to start with more built or larger peopele to play the returned.

Yeah, I love NPH and I think he definitely has the personality down but Lightsong is supposed to be tall and buff, it would probably be too expensive to cast him and then have them do all the special effects to make it so. Nathan Fillion might be a little easier to cast but that may just be my fangirl hopes :P

Hmmm how about Ryan Reynolds as Lightsong?

I second Salma Hayek as Blushweaver...man she's hot best looking actress by far...
Oh and Johnny Depp as the head priest i don't remember his name

Nathon Fillion would be perfect for Lightsong.

I kinda want Kiera Knightly for Vivena, and Daniel Craig for Vasher.

ok, NPH might not be made out of chiseled marble, but he's got the perfect voice and tone for it

Valkynphyre, I like your pick of Daniel Craig, but I think I would go for his Defiance castmate Liev Schreiber for Vasher.

I would love that, actually.  Funny guy, and I'm sure Reynolds could get that part down no problem.

I kinda want Kiera Knightly for Vivena, and Daniel Craig for Vasher.

That would indeed be awesome.  Also, Siri as Nat Portman would be perfect for this, as they look quite alike.

I love Daniel Craig! But I agree, I think Liev could play the part better.

Who do you think for the Mercenaries?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Natalie Portman (I mean, come on we have the same first name, there's a bond there) But she is also 27, aka ten years too old for the part. I don't think anyone over the age of 25 should play a teenager, it's not realistic enough. My opinions:

Vivenna:
Natalie Portman http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1287752448/nm0000204
or Kiera Knightleyhttp://www.imdb.com/media/rm356291584/nm0461136
(Both are similar and could be sisters but neither are young enough to play Siri)

Siri:
Juliette Lamboley http://dvdtoile.com/ARTISTES/117/117011.jpg http://www.todaystars.com/site/images/Acteurs/Julap.jpg http://www.alalettre.com/images2/juliettelamboley.jpg
(Though she is French and I don't know if her English is good enough)
or Jennifer Lawrence http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3327563520/nm2225369 http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2931136512/nm2225369

Vasher:
Daniel Criag http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2143328000/nm0185819
(I agree mainly because of Quantum of Solace. I know the movie wasn't incredible but it showed that Craig could be a bad ass, semi likable, and antisocial at the same time, which I think are the qualities of Vasher

Lightsong:
Neil Patrick Harris http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3788081920/nm0000439
(I'll admit I've never seen him act and never heard of him before this thread but solely on his looks, I like it. I completely disagree with Ryan Reynolds, no matter how serious of a part he plays I just can't take him seriously)

Denth:
Sam Worthington http://www.hunkymalecelebs.com/images/hotm_image_jun2009.jpg
(He might be a little bit too pretty)

Tonk Fah:
Adam Beach http://www.hunkymalecelebs.com/adam_beach/pictures/6.jpg
(A little too think but the face is on)

Parlin:
Aaron Ashmore http://www.hunkymalecelebs.com/aaron_ashmore/pictures/5.jpg

Dear God I've been doing this for hours.
I might revise this later. Peace

Nathan Fillion for Lightsong gets my vote, I'd also vote for Juliette Lamboley for Siri (didn't know who she was, but those pictures that Natalie posted the link to are perfect)

I think Robbie Coltrane would do well as Llarimar. David Wenham would be a great Denth with maybe Sean Astin playing Tonk Fah.

Monica Bellucci would be a fantastic Blushweaver IMO.

I can't think of anyone to play Susebron, but I think Peter Stormare is a fit for his high priest.

Monica Bellucci as Blushweave is pretty close to perfect!

yeah, Lightsong has to be either NPH or Nathan Fillion. Otherwise the world will end.
I think NPH can play the part better, but i think Nathan Fillion could look and play the part.
I'm ok with Natalie Portman as Siri.

I think Nightblood should be voiced by Elijah Woods, not because his voice is creepy enough, but because he can do the voice calmly and lightly, especially when he's saying something creepy, thus making the voice EXTRA-creepy.

Salma Hayek would make a perfect Blushweaver.

Sean Dean as Bluefingers.

James Franco as Susebron.

Lawl! I'm not going to argue against either Bellucci or Hayek for the part. They both are......ummm....perfect for the part. ;)

Hey if ink is interested in animation he could make a cartoon of all the books... it would be more cost productive and the film would be true to the books :P ;D :D

OK, the cast is one thing, but what about the rest of the staff?

Has anyone here seen the movie The Fall (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460791/)?

Whoever is responsible for making that movie one of the best looking things I have ever seen needs to be in some way involved in the art direction of Warbreaker.

surreal, fantastic, and colorful, it's the perfect visual comparison to the way T'Telir needs to look

here:
http://thefallthemovie.com/
take a look at the gallery.
there are scenes that take place in 1920's California, and scenes that take place in a fantasy story one of the characters tells, as imagined by the little girl he tells it to.

Pretty sure Liam Neeson needs to be in there somewhere. Bluefingers? Vasher? Denth? One of the gods? King Dedelin?

Not seeing any bad options here.

I don't want to be too off topic here but I just watched the trailer for The Fall and you are right whoever did the imagery or art direction for this movie needs to be heavily involved in the making of Warbreaker.  Just the colors in the trailer were beautiful.  That one picture of the two characters on the cliff looking over the colorful blue city by the sea made me have a relapse of what it was like to read about T'Telir.

Vasher, definitely Vasher.  Awesome actor, and he seems to have the chops for the combat scenes too.

I think Allison Scagliotti from Warehouse 13 would make a great Siri...I can totally see her going through hair color changes, mood swings, high energy, frustration, and she's got that great "smart girl, but rebellious" mentality.

Come to think of it, she'd make a great Vin as well.

Well, Nathan Fillion and NPH are both good choices.  They both have Lightsong's wit, but I think they can both do serious.  The only thing, I wonder about which one would make the better God...  Based on build alone, I'd say Fillion.  That's just me.

NPH I can totally see as Denth.  Or maybe that's just Dr. Horrible clouding my mind.

And last, we can have Summer Glau as Vivenna, and Ellen Page as Siri.   ;D

I think Allison Scagliotti is a little too... well, boy-ish, to play Siri. I imagine Siri more like the cute girl that's a little mean on the inside. A little like Mackenzie Rosman (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4259352064/nm0743092), maybe.

Allison Scagliotti would be an awesome Vin, though!

Not that i don't love them, because i do, but does anyone notice how in every single casting for a Sanderson book, everybody always suggests Firefly cast, Dr Horrible cast, or Ellen Paige as someone. for every book!

You're right...she'd make a MUCH better Vin.  I like the wit and the self-doubt that she brings (doesn't hurt that she's cute, either).
