So, I just spent the last hour and a half searching through the pages in the forum for a topic tag on a possible sequel for Elantris 2 (btw, this includes all those ambiguous topic titles that you can never tell what they are about...I hate them so).
Reaching about page 12, and still finding nothing on my question (and noticing that the dates were almost reaching into last year), I decided to (possibly re)post the question on the front page, trusting in the wisdom of those who have been here far longer than I.
I have finished Elantris, and was left with some questions about whether Brandon would ever make a full length novel sequel. Reading the short story he wrote in order to impress his wife...ahem...in order to bring joy to a young eighth grader also left some hints as to a possible sequel (Sarene pregnant? does the child stand a heightened chance of the Shaod falling on him/her? Galladon was a son of an Elantrian, AND a Dula who naturally had less of a chance of getting the Shaod...)
As you can see I have some burning questions, and since Warbreaker and Elantris are, as of yet, my only exposure to Brandon's writings, I am in need of some answers.
Also, sorry for posting if this has already been addressed. If you could only point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

There are plans for a sequel, but it will be a while, what with all the other projects he's working on. If you're looking for a good read in the mean time, check out the Mistborn Trilogy, especially since the third is due out in just a few weeks. :D

I'm sure there's a forum topic about it, but I don't know where it is. EUOL has said he's considered writing a full sequal to Elantris, but at this point it's up in the air if it would ever happen. However, if it does happen it will be mostly set in Teod and according to the annotations two of the three princapal characters (this book would also have the triad format) would be Kiin's kids Kaise and Daorn.

Qarlin:
Thanks for the recommend, yet I already have plans to read both Mistborns before the third arrives!
Rainbow:
Thanks for the info. Like I said, I figured there was probably a post on it, but sorry I had to bring it up again. Interesting to think about the triad format, because that leaves room for Raoden and Sarene's child.

MOST Elantris articles are around 1.5 to 2 years old.
-
I think the Elantris-sequel info I've seen is not a topic of its own, but a post in some other topic - so don't feel bad for not having found it. It could take forever to read through all the past threads.

Some of us just skipped the past threads for 2 reasons: 1. there was so many posts/topics that it would take weeks to read it all, 2. I hate rezzing old posts (a personal thing, nothing against legit rez posts).

All I know is if EUOL writes the sequal by the end of 2009 I get a $3,000 painting I want.

Because of a bet or what?

Well for your sake AND OURS I hope he does. :]

Bribe to get me to pressure him to write it.
-
Sprigg if your pressure would have an effect on him actually writing it then sure why not. Im sure we could get something together for you.
-
He means someone already bribed him with the promise of a $3000 painting if he can get Brandon to write the sequel by the end of 2009. However, I am sure Spriggan would appreciate and be motivated by any additional consideration you may offer him as well.
-
The question is, would Spriggan's pressure be effective? I have my doubts. It appears to me that EUOL's writing priorities for his various works-in-progress are influenced primarily by:
1) his own level of excitement
2) his existing contracts with the publishers
3) his agent's estimations of the future marketability
So, does Spriggan have a lot of influence over EUOL's level of excitement about a particular project? I'm guessing we'd do better to be bribing Pemberley.

But Spriggan controls his all-important lines of fan communication. Also, he could plant a virus on his computer that doesn't let him work on anything else.
-
actually he already told me that if I pay him $1,500 (half the cost of the painting) he'd get around to it--though he didn't really say when that would be.

That would be a pretty fancy virus - would it shut things down if certain words (Elantris, Kaise, Daorn, Aon) weren't typed often enough?
-
Not really, it could just be a service written in .NET that would/could scan what he's writing in Word via COM and look for certain things. That would be simple to do, however preventing him from saving or shutting down would be harder. I could prompt shutdowns but unless I have the username and password I don't beleive you can force one.
Most likely I'd just display popup windows telling him to work on Elantris 2 instead of what he was working on and just try to be annoying.
-
I don't know much about computers or viruses, but I find great amusement in hearing of new tricks for siblings to harass each other.
I think you should make a virus that doesn't allow him ever to type the sequence w-a-s-i-n-g, and if he tries it, the last paragraph gets deleted immediately.
