Title: Coolest movie scenes of all time
Post by: Comfortable Madness on September 16, 2008, 11:04:12 PM
I recently watched V for Vendetta and it undoubtedly has one of the coolest scenes of all time. It is the scene where, near the end of the movie, V dispactches of Creedy and around a dozen of his goons....

from IMDB.com:

Creedy: Defiant to the end, huh? You won't cry like him, will you? You're not afraid of death. You're like me.
V: The only thing that you and I have in common, Mr. Creedy, is we're both about to die.
Creedy: How do you imagine that's gonna happen?
V: With my hands around your neck.
Creedy: Bollocks. Whatchya gonna do, huh? We've swept this place. You've got nothing. Nothing but your bloody knives and your fancy karate gimmicks. We have guns.
V: No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer be standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've reloaded.
Creedy: That's impossible. Kill him.
[the fingermen open fire on V, but he still stands after their clips are empty]
V: My turn.
[V proceeds to kill all fingermen with his knives before they manage to reload]
Creedy: [desperately shooting at the approaching V] Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

Great scene in a great movie. Feel free to add some more.

I agree, that scene was pretty cool, although my favorite from that movie is when V goes off on his "V rant" where he uses quite a large amount of "v words."  :D

One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from Dead Poet's Society, at the end. If you haven't seen the movie, don't watch the clip (spoilers, obviously).

Romanticism is embodied in all forms in that last thirty second of the film.  I actually wrote a five page paper about the last seen and how it did that.  ha ha.  I cry every time I watch that movie.

DPS...definitely an extremely cool movie.

Coolest movie scene?  Hands down, the one at the end of The Ring.  If you've seen it, you know the one I'm talking about.  If you haven't seen it yet...GO...WATCH IT!  Wowsers, cool.

I don't know I think there are too many to pick the coolest. My favorite ending has to be the Departed though. Leo dies Damon gets away and the Walburg kills him. Shocking and satisfying.

My favorite movie ending in the sheer wackiness category is actually the Spongebob Movie.  Watch the last 5 minutes.  It's worth it.

The Matrix's ending was amazing (the first one, not the other two after it).

Though V for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies of all time so I'd probably vote for the scene with the "knives and fancy karate gimmicks".

Hmm.... my previous video seems to have been removed from Youtube, curses!

Oh well, here's a few more that I fancy to be pretty cool.

From Tony Jaa's "The Protector" (Violent Fight Scene)

From the crazy movie Oldboy (Another violent fight scene :))

Oldboy really really creeped me out. I actually felt a little dirty after having watched that movie. I was with everything until the end...

One of my favorite scenes is still the simple little scene in True Lies where Tom Arnold is trying calm down Arnold Schwarzenager.

"She took the ice trays!"

A few of my favorite movie scenes:

The Man from Snowy River descent scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZBXLYJwgt4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZBXLYJwgt4)

How to Marry a Millionaire ending scene where Tom Brookman pulls out a wad of cash and the women all fall over; I laugh every time.

Strictly Ballroom when Scott and Fran dance backstage to everyone's amazement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qlT1ct4biA&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qlT1ct4biA&feature=related)

Nessa, I agree 150% with tMfSR one.  That one is just plain amazing when you think about the amount of skill it takes to ride like that, but also the fact that it was caught on film?  Spectaular.

Always one of my favorite scenes. So powerful.

Banlieu 13 (District B13 in English) has a few really awesome scenes, such as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOp4UGZ65xM

The guy running in the first scene is (actor) David Belle, who is one of the founders of Parkour.  (Warning, scenes contains some language, though it's all in French)

You should have said "Pardon your French", and for once it actually would have been accurate (because most french words aren't french)

If you like Parkour or cool fighting scenes, it's an excellent film.

I actually saw the very first Parkour film (Yamakasi) in theatres.  That was before I knew it was called Parkour.  Blew me away.

The Parkour stuff from the opening of James Bond was really good as well.  On to the topic...

The lawnmower scene from Dead Alive, The Last 20 minutes of Hot Fuzz, "Stuck in the Middle With You" scene from Reservoir Dogs, Goonies water slide, Matrix when Neo and Trin rescue Morpheus.

This could go on forever, these are just some from the movies I have watched the last couple of days.

The entire opening montage from Raising Arizona (along with several other scenes from that movies).

All of the fight scenes from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The first 40 minutes or so of Wall-E.

To name a few ...

All of the fight scenes from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

These are actually pretty standard for any traditional modern Chinese kung-fu/Wushu movie.  Americans generally don't realize this, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is generally considered "same old, same old" in China.

The ear scene from Reservoir Dogs.  It makes me shudder.

Also, I really enjoy the scene from Citizen Kane when he is getting adopted from his parents, and he is playing out in the snow.  <sigh>  Good movie.

Oh, oh!  And the rape scene from a Clockwork Orange.  <shudder>  Good film.  Required viewing for every human.

Equilibrium:

The End Scene where Christian Bale and Angus McFadyen are standing next to each other trying to shoot one another with pistols. They are close enough that they  start blocking the shots with Kung Fu moves. Bale points his pistol at Angus, but Angus does a kung fu block and knocks the pistol aside right before it goes off, then Bale does the same when Angus aims at him, etc.

I was in a game store in California watching it with about a dozen guys when it got to that scene. We were all screaming it was so damn metal.

Watchmen

"Men get taken in. Dogs get put down." -Rorschach (*smashes cleaver into criminal's head*)

The scene in the jailcell . . . "GIVE. ME. IS. MY. FACE." -Rorschach

"None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you–you're locked in here with me." (*Splashes hot oil on man's face, tackled by security*)

What an awesome movie.

UHF. It has most of the classics, plus it has Weird Al. What more could anyone ask?

No one has mentioned the bank robbery scene from Heat? I'm a little disappointed in you all. That scene is chilling, and even more so when a similar shoot-out happens in real life soon after the movie is released. Geez, the moment where Val Kilmer coldly drops the duffel-bag and begins shooting anything that moves...

How about the opening D-Day scene of Saving Private Ryan (or that horrific scene where the guy is slowly stabbed *shudder*).

I'm also a sucker for the ending of Man on Fire.

If I'm feeling nostalgic, the first time I remember seeing a Star Destroyer pass in Star Wars...

And, lastly, King Kong on the ice.

I 100% agree with you on the D-Day scene of Saving Private Ryan. You can pretty much cut away any scene from that movie and add it to this thread.

I'll also throw in the scene from The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford(Yah way too long of a movie title) where Robert Ford...well...assassinates Jesse James. It's one of the most intense scenes I've ever watched. The way the scene builds is just brilliant.

Oh, when I said that UHF had most of the classics, I meant the scenes. It quotes and misquotes quite a few.

Blade Runner's cat and mouse scenes.

Some good non-action scenes:
A good and famous one is the rollerskating scene from Shall We Dance (1937). "You say potato," etc.

De Boeldieu and von Rauffenstein's scenes from La Grande Illusion.

GI Joe was, on the whole, the stupidest movie I've seen in years, but there were lots of entertaining scenes. The Accelerator Suit chase scene, in particular, was awesome. I dare say it was worth sitting through the whole movie for that one scene.

3:10 to Yuma: the end scene where Russel Crow kills his posse. Absolutely awesome and shocking.... But like Private Ryan, you can add almost the entire movie to this "greatest scene" thread.

The scene in The Dark Knight, where the semi-trailer flips over....I also rather like the part where the criminal throws the detonator out the window. And the whole Harvey Dent/Rachel Dawes in the warehouses part. And the press conference where Batman is going to turn himself in, and Harvey tries to convince everyone it's not a good idea. "The night is darkest just before the dawn, but I promise you, the dawn is coming."...There are some really good lines in that movie. And scenes....

Sean Connery's death scene in the Untouchables.

The final starship battle scene from Wrath of Kahn.

The Normandy scene from Private Ryan is even more chilling when your Grandfather, who was there, tells you it really was that horrific. (that slow stabbing scene really gets me too.  Good call BG)

The Climax of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

One of my favorite scenes of all time is in Scream, when the movie geek watches a killer sneak up on a girl in a movie, while a newsman is watching a killer sneak up on the movie geek through a hidden camera, while we in the audience watch a killer sneak up on the newsman. Absolutely brilliant.

There's a scene in Unforgiven where Eastwood is talking to Freeman about the "old days," and Freeman says something along the lines of "Man, and you took out those 3 guys--" and Eastwood says in this perfect humble and uncomfortable tone (so you know he's just telling you like it is), "There were 4 guys...and yeah, I killed em all."  The quotes aren't exact, but the feeling it left was awesome.  So often the legends of gunfighters are overblown--in this case they were undercut.  Such a great and subtle scene.

There is a scene in Deadwood (overall a meh series), where Swearengen kills the priest out of mercy.  One of the most humanizing and heart-wrenching scenes I've ever seen.  No words are spoken, yet in that 2 minute scene, we get more true character development of a character (Swearengen) than most movies and tv shows manage over hours and hours of film.
