I think I can speak for all of us who post here, with out exception, when I say we are here because we enjoy his work and the interaction with the author and each other. We expect nothing other than conversations about topics that we enjoy, with people we are getting to know and learning about :)

If he were to give away free books to anyone, I'd prefer it if it wasn't forum-goers. Most of us here already appreciate his work enough to be more than willing to part with the cost of the book, whereas there might be some people who would like to read his books but can't get ahold of them via other means.

Who can't afford $359 for a Kindle? It had a price drop from $399.
For someone that was saying how any shmuck should be able to shell out $360 for a Kindle, you seem to spend a lot of time asking for stuff for free or cheap.

If you want a signed copy, go to a signing. They are very very worth it. Brandon is a really awesome person. Lots of people in his type of position say they enjoy engaging with fans, but with Brandon, you really get the feeling that he genuinely does. He's always willing to share advice or answer questions. I've been to a couple signings now and all have been great.

I mean, come on. Brandon will not be giving away free books. Wasn't that... obvious? Now, I looked at a recent blog post of his, and he stated that he would do something for fans who live far away (who can't get to the Hero of Ages release party) to get a signed/numbered copy... but obviously they wouldn't be free. Who do think Brandon is, Bill Gates? Shipping alone, man...

I'm a fan of Brandon's stuff, so I'd probably look through these boards anyway, but I find myself coming here more and more often to see what kind of hilarious topic UtopiaGreen01 has posted. I'm really sorry I missed the HDTV one. I'll have to search for it just for a good laugh.

And seriously. I'm never quite sure whether to laugh hysterically at the very idea that someone actually seriously said some of those things, or just be sad that such a person exists.

Its times like these that i realize I love you guys. I dont think i've enjoyed a thread as much as this since I became a member. I almost want to thank Utopia for the entertainment but I will thank schneb instead.

If by free you mean you pay 27.95 at a bookstore where he is doing a signing, then sure. Seriously, what the frak?
Brandon has always gone above and beyond by helping people who live in other states get signed (and yeah, even numbered) copies of his books. He has released books on his website for free. Tor has released his books for free. His paperback for MB1 was discounted so you could have a discount on that 27.95 MB3 hardback. For frak's sake, I hand-sold over 1000 copies of his books, set up his 3 most successful signings, and was his quasi-TA for his class. I still pay for copies of his books. And I do it gladly.

EUOL writes for a living as well as for the joy of it. Besides which, he's more generous than other successful authors I enjoy reading. For instance, he gave away a copyredited MS at a signing. How cool is that? And as NBGA points out, EUOL has released two books electronically and there's a discount for MB3 if you buy a PB for MB1.
Makes me embarrassed (and annoyed) to see someone posting a thread like this. :P gah.

And the entertainment goes on. Have you noticed a sudden drop in Utopias activity? I mean Utopia posted fairly often and created threads out the but for a couple of weeks and since this thread exploded has since shown nothing. Although I love this thread and it replies, I would hope it doesnt discourage Utopia from posting in the future. Sometimes people are short sighted and need some assistance. I mean I created some pointless threads when I first started here and I love this forum. I understand its rude to ask more from EUOL seeing how he already does so much for us, more than we can ask. But one bad question happens to all of us.

Whereas I don't necessarily like Utopia, it is sad to see us lose a user. I mean, when you first joined the threads Green I didn't like you either, but you improved and your chill. I hope Utopia comes back, but has taken some time to learn proper etiquette of forums.

Agreed, in reality it doesn't matter if you like a person to hear their point of view. More often than not they might have things to say that you weren't thinking of.
Also I think I'm either an idiot or I just noticed a spell check button on this forum. That will improve my posts dramatically. I'm glad you don't think I'm a jerk miyabi, I think its more fun being objective than pressing points all the time.

I actually just noticed that button earlier today too actually. I just run Firefox and there is a built in spell check. So I probably NOTICED it, but didn't "notice" it until today. ha ha. ;)

I've found that the spell check on anything is rather annoying, especially in the theory topics where I consistently use the word "Hemalurgical" in a sentence. Get enough of those in a paragraph... yeah, it gets annoying fast. So usually, I just turn off spell check whenever I can (still haven't figured out how to do that for Firefox).
Undoubtedly, that means you'll catch me with the seldom spell error... but I've always been a good speller anyways.

You go tools - preferences(that's what it is in Ubuntu anyways.) It's in the Advanced tab. 'Check my spelling as I type.'

Or, you could just type out the word hemalurgical, right click it when it gets the spell check freaked out, and click "add to dictionary." Then it checks to make sure you always spell hemalurgical right.

It will be a sad day when I spell "Hemalurgical" wrong. I believe I coined that one.
