Title: Holy crap... Just finished MB2
Post by: Craysh on February 12, 2008, 04:58:49 AM
Wow... Just wow...
After getting through the first two books of Mistborn I am stunned that TOR isn't pushing BS more.  With an amazing writer like him.

Amen.  Pretty much every other book I've read has a ton of filler.  Sanderson seems to have every chapter mean something.
I literally had to promise myself I'd read again tomorrow so I could put it down the night before.  Never had so many nights with only 4 hours of sleep >.<

I beat you all.
Mistborn II took me 2 days.
Mistborn I took me 5 but only cause I picked it up with the vibe that I wouldn't be able to understand it, so of course, after I read the first chapter, I didn't understand it (I did this with the first WoT book too). I let it sit there for 3 days and on the 4th day I figured I'd try again with an open mind and it became so much clearer to me. I didn't go to sleep that night and I finished it then.

I hate the last 200 pages of both Mistborn books...

Mainly because I start reading them around 10:00 at night when I should be going to bed and just can not put them down.  Keep me up till all hours of the morning because I can't put them down.

And then you fall victim, to the "just one more chapter syndrom," and end up staying up till one in the morning and reading it when you should be doing you're homework.  I love the avalanche of awesome at the end.

Wish I had mistborn 2.... But I don't like buying hardbacks, I'll check my library next week, but I'm not hopeful... On the subject of how long it takes to read a book, I read mistborn one from start to finish yesterday.

Wow, I'm just the opposite.  I prefer to read hardback books to paperbacks.  It is just the heft of the book that makes it better for me.  That isn't to say I don't read PBs because I do.  I read PBs of authors that have a few books out that I am just starting to read.  Then if I like the author I buy in HB from then on.  I am also a book collector and HBs are the way to go.

I finished it five minutes ago... My mind is yet still blown.

I think anyone who's read RJ's WoT will admit that he's the greatest author ever, or one of, but BS is certainly the best choice as his successor. Where RJ could spin you a story with a thousand different plots all interacting at once, BS is the Master of the Twist. Before I read the epilogue to MB2, I thought his Rashek as the Lord Ruler and Kelsier's plan twists were just flukes, but now... wow...

Can't wait to see what the crew does in book 3.

Take some time to think about how Sazed must feel after what happens leading up to the Well scene.  Talk about tearing down someone's beliefs.   It puts a fantastic new spin to the old "evil uses good's compassion against it" routine.

I wouldn't say TOR isn't pushing Brandon enough. He did get chosen to complete Wheel of Time, after all.

What I really like is the ways he's able to put so much out there, and then make it all work and connect together in the end.  He really makes the reader understand the world of his books which is why we are able to discuss it in such length.
