Title: Oscar Predictions 2007
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 01, 2007, 07:44:39 PM
The Oscars are virtually upon us, and whether you like them or hate them, it's still loads of fun to try to predict them. This year we have two excellent prizes for whoever picks the most winners:

First, everyone who correctly picks the winners in at least 6 of the 10 categories will receive a lovely forum to display next to their avatar.

Second, the person who correctly picks the greatest number of winners in these 10 categories will receive a 6', free-standing, cardboard cut-out of Oscar himself, which will be mailed free of charge. How awesome is that? Very awesome.

The rules are simple, post your picks in the following 10 categories, and whoever picks the most wins a prize. In the event of a tie we will look at the categories in descending order, eliminating entries as soon as they guess wrong, and the last one standing wins. In the event that more than one person picked all 10 perfectly, we will declare you all tim-traveling cheaters and keep the prizes for ourselves.

All entries must be posted on or before Saturday, February 24, at 11:59 pm. Anything later than that will not be counted.

I'm going to add that to get the forum award that you only need 6 out of 10 predictions correct to win, the other stuff is for determining the winner of Oscar.

I think we should have them here, yes. In the event that two people have the same winning predictions, the first one to post them wins. Sound fair?

Man, both Mustard and Parker are guessing almost exactly what I would guess--and the one where they differ is the main one I can't make up my mind on.

Mustard just saw how right I was and cut and pasted my post, then changed a few to make sure he didn't look like too much of a follower.  It's alright.  Don't feel bad about it.  Just send me the Oscar Cutout Thingy now, and use my answers to win yourself the forum trophy.

Ok, we'll see how I do, it is normally very badly ;)

Best Picture:  Babel
Best Director: Clint Eastwood (as much as I would like to think Martin Scorsese will win, history is against us)
Best Actor:  Will Smith (the sentimental favorite for me)
Best Actress: Helen Mirren
Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy (it would be great to see, and I think he has a real shot)
Best Supporting Actress:  Cate Blanchett
Best Original Screenplay:  Guillermo del Toro
Best Adapted Screenplay:  The Borat Crew
Best Cinematography: Guillermo Navarro
Best Documentary: Davis Guggenheim

There they are, I don't know how they will do, but do any of us really know what the Academy finds Oscar worthy anymore?

Well crap.  I just saw The Queen last night, and now I think I need to revise my list.  I assume it's okay to edit anything before the deadline?

I am not a creator of the game, but as a fellow contestant, I see no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to edit before the event.

Tomorrow is the last day to submit your guesses for the Oscar contest!  It's not hard nor does it take long (you can do it in 5 minutes) and if you get 6/10 correct you get an award you can display next to your avatar.  It's free, easy, fun and anyone can enter (there's no level requirement) so what do you have to loose?

I'd like to formally accuse Fell of cheating.  He clearly traveled forward in time and then just got two wrong on purpose, so that no one would get too suspicious.

I enjoyed watching, though--some interesting surprises.  Cars and Eddie Murphy were robbed, but such is life.  I was very happy for Scorsese.  Now I just need to go see it.

Eh, I doubt either were held at gun point and had their statue stolen.

I only got 3/10 so no award for me, though it's not surprising I haven't seen (nor do I plan on seeing) any of the films in the 10 categories we chose from.  I don't give much credence to any movie that wins either since I think these awards are just popularity contents and not based off of merit in any way shape or form, but it's fun to guess the winners on the forum.

so who needs to PM me their address so when I can finally take this guy home I can mail him off?

These appear to be the tallies:

Parker: 6/10
Mustard: 6/10
DawnCawley: 2/10
TheLost24: 5/10
Fell: 8/10
Shrain: 7/10
Spriggan: 3/10

So, it looks like Fell is the big winner, and he, Parker, Shrain, and I get forum awards.

Curses! Fell beat me by one point. Ah, well, Fell has a bigger place, so I guess Oscar will be happier there. ;)

Nice job, Fell.

I'll make the award tonight after taking the Test I've got and award them accordingly.

But now that this is over we need a new contest for awards, so if you've got any ideas hop over to the awards board and let us know.

Ha ha! I've beaten you all. And if it weren't for Norbit, I would have gotten 9/10! Curse you, Eddie Murphy.

Awards have been given, thanks too all that participated.

I might still figit with the icon, the black outline doesn't look as good as it did in photoshop so I might change it to a grey.  Also should it be 2006 on the award or 2007?
