Title: Players
Post by: The Holy Saint, Grand High Poobah, Master of Monkeys, Ehlers on October 04, 2006, 02:24:46 PM
Post on this thread if you want to join. Ideally, a rough character concept.

Seeing as how SE stole many of his ideas from me, I'm game. Although, I have to admit I'm very ... uninitiated in the realm of RPG. So. Be nice!

Also, I must ponder a bit more before posting my character outline. I am toying with making a long-standing "inside joke" come to life: the dreaded Office Gypsy. She shall oversee the mojo for each new project and will also make things lively around the office. If anyone forgets to clean out the microwave after exploding a bunch of dragons eggs in it, they had better watch out!

Edit: oh, wait, our world has no microwaves. However, we shall, I think, have Wizardwaves!! Yes, and they are very affordable though a wizard has to come re-charge the magical cooking flame every ten years or so. No chance of getting cancer though, which is a big plus.

I'll join up.  Is there a certain requirement to be a certain race or  can i choose?  Anyways my character will be  a 27 year old half elf, half human thief, who uses small amounts of elven magic and silver daggers for special assassination jobs.

see the rules thread: http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=sneaks;action=display;num=1159984561

that concept should be acceptable. I know I'll need to do stats for Shrain's character, do I need to do yours too? (it's fine if I do, I just need to know)

I would appreciate it... :)

I would love to play.  I would appreciate being a shapeshifting thief or mage (if somebody else is going for thief, and the team needs to be balanced out, I would gladly go with a dark mage).

Either way, I wouldn't know how to make my character for this setting, so I would need some help having that done.

Weapon of choice--Shuriken

Basic stat layout (are we playing D&D style, where we roll for these, or do we chose them?)  If chosen, I'd like a high constitution and intelligence.

Second weapon--Colli Sticks

Basic Skill sets: stealth, detecting traps and opponents, contained combat

Is there anything else I need to put down for you to figure this out.  Do you need me to change some information or clear anything up?

I'm not sure what colli sticks are, but I haven't hit wikipedia yet this morning, so maybe I'll know before you respond. Also, when you say "contained combat" are you talking about hand to hand?

Remember that stealth and guile are more important than actually beating people up.

I think that multiple rogue/theif types would be more than acceptable. However, if you have a spell caster, are you more interested in necromantic (raising zombies, doing negative energy damage) or what I consider the "stealth" set -- spells like Darkness, silence, detect magic/evil/whatever, etc.? Come to think of it, Silence will be a very useful spell in such a setting: prevents guards from warning each other, quiets combat, helps you sneak around, prevents a lot of spell casting.

I'm tentatively in. I think my character will be (subject to tweaking):

Race: 70-year-old female halfling (assuming that halflings live to 120 or so)

Weapons: Dagger

Basic stats: endurance, wisdom

Basic Skill sets: hand-to-hand, lockpick, cipher-cracker

Magic: Mutes the magical properties of items she touches, as long as she's touching them

I am wanting a Bard. I am to need to know if having skills of a diplomatic nature (intimidating, bluffing, etc) would be useful, or if as is stated by the entire nature of this thing, sneaking about (so skills like hide and move silently would be a better fit).

diplomatic skills should also be useful.

I certainly spelled 'colli' wrong, first off.  Essentially, there's short sticks from about the elbow to the hand in length, good for quick, hard blows used mostly to knock somebody over or out instead of killing them.

I'll go with the mage, I'd like manipulation spells (mostly manipulate environment) such as darkness, silence, and (I don't know if this system has these) mental manipulation, such as control person or implant thoughts.

I mostly meant close-quarters fighting by contained, I worded it poorly--it was really late here when I said it. :-P.

SE, if you want a better idea of what Gorgon meant, look up Eskrima, or Kali sticks in Wikipedia.

will do so.

Will be making character sheets this week, actually starting the game will come the week after some time. I have to work out some adventure details. I'm making more of the chars than expected, so that explains the delay.

Â I'm game, but I am VERY new at this kinda thing.  Necromancy is always awesome, though, as well as dark magery ;D You can figure my stats for me, i'm good at intelligent things, but usually like to blow things up a little to much as well.

I will warn you though; my characters usualy come out
chrochety and/or domineering. Go ME!

I have not made character sheets yet. Contrary to popular belief, this is not solely because I am a lazy sack of crap. Mostly it's because I dont' have the manuals here. Instead I wrote you an employee manual (http://www.thelemur.net/games/S.N.E.A.K.S.doc) of sorts. All players should download and read it, as your characters will be held responsible for the material therein. (it's short, less than 3 pages).

I am also plotting your first adventure, so I'm not just wasting time, but expect to see your sheets early next week.

I added racial descriptions to the setting thread (http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=sneaks;action=display;num=1159983297).

It is a good time to revise your character concept and post updates.

I'm not sure if you check PMs or not, SE, but I'm alerting you that I am sending you my character concept including skills and weaknesses via PM in a few minutes, so perhaps it would be best if that were checked.  Or something.

Alright, sorry that took so long--it took longer to work out than I thought it would (I had the idea in my head but I had to write it out.) It is officially there now, though.

I've decided I'll be an old [around 120? is that old?] half-elven half-Illumen female Darkmage and Necromancer. I'll take to my Elven side. Intelligence, Mental Strength, and Dark or Necromantic Magic are my strong points; not very fast, weaker body. Neutral Magics can be a secondary skill. I don't know enough to specify any more. And so, I beseech the great and all powerful E to make my stats. :'( Pwease??

ok, so... if you take after your elf side, you are effectively an elf. You'll just have family that are Illumans.

I should explain magic, as it took me a moment to understand it as I read. There are only 2 skills for magic. Arcane and Witchcraft. Arcane magic spends your endurance to replicate any given ability (you can cast it on yourself or others. The higher your level of arcane magic, the less endurance it costs (of course, the higher the level in the ability you want to replicate, the *more* it costs). The spells are harder to cast if you can't move or speak.

Witchcraft, on the other hand, lets you inflict weaknesses on others. Everything else works the same.

It sounds you want to have Magic, Witchcraft, though we can call it Necromancy or Dark Magic for flavor, if you desire.

This should be an easy character for me to make. I will do yours, and Nessa has told me her character concept remains unchanged.

I would like everyone else to let me know if they wish to make changes to their character with the information I've given.

I'm excited for the game to start.  Everybody--Everybody!  Stop working!  Stop eating!  Stop sleeping!  Stop living your lives in general!  I want to play the game now!

<_<

I just need a nod from Shrain, Seeker, Gemm, and uh... no one else. 5 players? that's a pretty good size.

That is totally and completely awesome in every comprehendable way! ;D ;D:lol: And, SE, I guessed that all half-elf meant that i'd just get Illuman ancestors, and relatives. I was putting in an option for Politic Stuff involving family members, if'n I need it.

This sounds very interesting - I DM a real D&D game every month, but I've tried this before.

Put me down for a late 30's human warrior (I'm thinking ex-knight) with a trick knee.  Maybe a drinking problem, but totally a professional down on his luck with his age gettin' to him.

weapons: standard longsword (and shield), haven't decided on decent back up
armor: breastplate, for mobility, less weight on the knee
signature item: spit-shined brass locket on a simple chain

skills: leadership, knowledge of military tactics, swordsman, and taunting

I will sort of do that
I'm revamping the game.... again. It will be essentially rule-less (mostly). I'm building it up on Gaia and I will run an instance of it here. Sorry I haven't kept you all updated.

While I love D&D, I won't mind a "rule-less" system, especially if its onthe boards.  However, can you provide a link to "Gaia"?  Is it a world, or a mechanic?

It's a web community. There's a lot of rp there. Primarily it's collaborative story telling. I want to see if I can move that here. http://www.gaiaonline.com

Still recruiting?  This looks interesting.

(Still using the 10 point ability/weakness system?)
Title: Re: Players
Post by: The Holy Saint, Grand High Poobah, Master of Monkeys, Ehlers on February 20, 2007, 03:08:50 PM
I'm going to try to ignore the 10 points, and just have people choose weaknesses and abilities, with the idea in mind that people are supposed to be novices. If that doesn't work, I'll reinstitute the 10 point policy.
look this afternoon for a template to create characters with.
