Title: Dark One
Post by: Peter Ahlstrom on December 01, 2005, 12:23:59 PM
What is it?

YA novel I'm working on.  I have a few sample chapters, if you want them.  I may have to change the title, though, since a very dissimilar book just came out with a close title.

I'd rather not talk about the book too much, since I won't be able to get to it for a while, and I'd like to keep the ideas off the internet for a bit.

Well, anyone here can have the sample chapters if they want.  In fact, anyone can have sample chapters of any of my books.  I send those out pretty freely.  I'm just not sure I want to go posting the ideas for this one about yet.

Also, if anyone wants any of my old books--anything pre-WAY OF KINGS--you need but ask.  Most of them won't ever get published in their current form.  So, if you're ever board, you can read an old, unpublished Brandon novel.

The complete Brandon Library is:

1) White Sand Prime  (My first Fantasy Novel)
2) Star's End   (Short, alien-relations sf novel.)
3) Lord Mastrell (Sequel to White Sand Prime)
4) Knight Life (Fantasy comedy.)
5) The Sixth Incarnation of Pandora (Far future sf involving immortal warriors)
6) Elantris (You have to buy this one!)
7) Dragonsteel (My most standard epic fantasy
8) White Sand (Complete rewrite of the first attempt)
9) Mythwalker (Unfinished at about 600 pages.  Another more standard epic fantasy.)
10) Aether of Night (Stand-Alone fantasy.  A little like Elantris.)
11) Mistborn Prime (Eventually stole this world.)
12) Final Empire Prime (Cannibalized for book 14 as well.)
13) The Way of Kings (Fantasy War epic.  Coming in 2008 or 2009)
14) Mistborn: The Final Empire (Coming June 2006)
15) Mistborn: The Well of Ascension (Early 2007)
16) Alcatraz Initiated (YA Fantasy. Being shopped to publishers)
17) Mistborn: Hero of Ages (Unfinished.  Coming late 2007)
18) Dark One (Unfinished.  YA fantasy)
19) Untitled Aether Project (Two sample chapters only.)

Hmmm. I haven't gotten it, which one did you send it to? My yahoo or my hotmail?

The one on your profile.  Hotmail, I think.

Okay, yeah, I got it a couple minutes ago and started reading.

Trivia fact: Jeff gave me a copy of White Sand to look at back when we were all at TLE. It's been on my hard drive ever since, and I have yet to look at it.  :-[

I did start reading a bit of Dragonsteel a while back, but got distracted by something else. One of these days I'll read the EUOL library, but I need to read Alcatraz and MsFish's book first.

Heputh!

The main character in one of my stories did that to! Course, he killed another kid, but still, same kind of thing about not knowing what happened. They say great minds think alike, I must have a great mind!

Tor passed on it?

I still need to read the most recent version of that before going on to anything else...

Would you be able to send me the sample chapters too?

A copy of Dragonsteel is at the BYU library, for those interested in reading it. Just thought I'd point that out.

Ookla,

Tor is one of the publishers we'll shop it at.  Joshua wants to see where we can go with this one, since the MISTBORN books are already tied to Tor.

Lightning:  Sent.  Enjoy!

Does this mean I shouldn't finish my second reading of Alcatraz (i've put that off much longer than I ever should have)?

Also, I have Well of Ascension, are you still looking for comments?

I'm really sorry, I've been neglecting work I promised to do.

If you need comments on stuff, you can send me some, too. I'll take whatever.

Ah, I thought you said Alcatraz was one of the books Tor had first look rights on from the previous contract, since you finished it before Hero of Ages.

Um, me too--I've still got WELL on my computer, scratching at the back door of my thoughts. Sorry! :-[ I want to finish it, I really do--all 800+ pages of the thing. But I also have a desire to pass my classes. *sigh*
So, EUOL, since I won't get to spend some quality time with Vin, Elend, and the gang until Cmas break when I'm back to UT for a while, are you still looking for comments or not? Speak now or forever forgo the reams and reams of nitpicky comments I'd produce! Going once, going twice . . .
Otherwise I'll read the ms. purely for the fun of it with no guilt whatsoever. ;D

See, I'm not allowed to berate you for that till I catch up.

e, don't you see? You've just given MsFish warning about your impeding beratement, and thus lost the element of surprise. It would have gone better if you'd not mentioned it, caught up to where you need to be, and then have your ninja monkeys distract her while you follow up with a berating from behind! It's brilliant! I'm Brilliant!

I can do that anyway. It's more interesting when they think they can prepare for it.

yep, the false sense of security will get them every time--if the ninja monkeys don't, of course.

So EUOL, how do you want your comments for Dark One? An attachment, a seperate e-mail or what? I am likely to have them done by todayish and would like to know.

Oh fear not.  I knew the beratement was coming.  Besides, no beratement could compare to the one I've already put myself through.

I will read it Eric! I swear!

Oh, and I never sent you the revision of Haylee like I said I would, and I'm sending it to some other people, so I'll send it to you too, but you are, of course, not expected to get to it for at least twice as long as I've taken getting to yours.  (Sorry again.  )

EUOL, I'm assuming that I'll see Dark One when you've got a finished draft? Or when I finish Alcatraz, whichever comes first. :)
