Booyah!! So very cool. :D I hope our very own EUOL wins. Thanks for posting the nominations, EJS.

/me scowls in jealousy and plots to launch a widespread brag campaign . . . as soon as she has something to brag about.

Awesome. Very cool. If you just judge by the people whose quotes are collected on this page, (http://writertopia.com/awards/campbell) Brandon's got an excellent chance...

K.J. Bishop (http://writertopia.com/profiles/KJBishop)
Sarah Monette (http://writertopia.com/profiles/SarahMonette)
Chris Roberson (http://writertopia.com/profiles/ChrisRoberson)
Brandon Sanderson (http://writertopia.com/profiles/BrandonSanderson)
John Scalzi (http://writertopia.com/profiles/JohnScalzi)
Steph Swainston (http://writertopia.com/profiles/StephSwainston)

Of course, if you go by bibliography, several of them have way more things out, so they've probably reached a wider audience. :)

Chris Roberson, Steph Swainston, and K.J. Bishop were all on the ballot last year.

Brandon should go out and get some short stories published...

Ookla's got the right of it.  Thank you all for nominating me--and please consider me for an actual vote.  However, looking at the sheer bulk of material the others have out, my chances look slim.  John Scalzi, for instance, has three novels out AND he got a nomination for best novel, as well as for the Campbell.  He's probably got the best chance, I would think.

Still, it's quite nice to get nominated.  Very exciting!

and please consider me for an actual vote.

Um, so how do we vote for the finalist anyway? ??? I'm ready and willing to cast a final vote, but I'm not sure how we do it.

P.S. EUOL, you've got mail again.

You have to go to Worldcon in order to vote. Or at least be a Supporting Member of the convention, which means you pay enough to vote but not attend the convention itself. This is currently $50.

$50 is a little much for me at the moment (at least it's mor than what my wife will allow to spend). So sorry EUOL, I won't be voting but I can still say that I hope other people spend $50 and vote for you.

I, likewise, am firmly in the "moral support" category, unfortunately.

Yay, for moral support!

EUOL will have to start hobnobbing with with wealthier people if he wants financial support. But then he won't get the moral support.

So rich people aren't moral, eh? ;)

I wouldn't say I'm rich by a longshot. However, I am attending (yay!) so that means I get to vote in the final round. *ahem* I would also like to add that my morals are impeccable, by the way.

There is always another option. Brandon could "sponsor" people to vote by paying the fee for them :). I mean it's not *really* buying their vote since they would vote for him if they had the money. Maybe he could even get a company to sponsor him in this endeavor like a racecar has sponsors. And he could walk around with beautifully colored stickers on his shirt. Then they could sponsor the people who want to vote for him. He, he! ;D

Congrats, EUOL. I knew you would at least be nominated, and I think you have a good chance at winning. I hope it goes well.

It's pretty difficult to win in your first year of eligibility. Brandon would have a better chance next year with 2 Mistborn books out. BUT...Worldcon is in Japan next year, and I don't know how many of us are planning to go, or even if Brandon was planning on going. Last I heard we were thinking of NASFiC next year...

So I hope he wins this year (but please don't even think about the vote-buying stuff...) so we don't have to worry about next year! :)

John Scalzi's book Old Man's War is up for the Hugo. I'm going to check it out.

The last Nasfic was pretty lame, honestly.  I'd try for World Fantasy, myself.

I had a good time at Nasfic, but enjoyed the programming of World Fantasy better.

Well, World Fantasy is definitely a great convention. When is it next year?

[EDIT: I was too lazy to go to the website.]

You're just jealous because Eric knows everything writing-related that's worth knowing.

Eric knows that the web page for the World Fantasy Convention is http://www.worldfantasy.org.  Eric also knows how to cut and paste.

Nasfic will apparently be in St. Louis.  Both of those would require plane tickets.  Which would require money.

Meet me in St. Louis, Louis,
Meet me at the con.
Don't tell me that sci-fi fandom
Won't stay up till dawn.
We can tease convention rookies,
And we'll see some tipsy wookies
If you will meet me in St. Louis, Louis,
Meet me at the con.

John Scalzi just offered to give a free e-copy of Old Man's War to anyone who has a valid Worldcon registration number.  I'm thinking of checking it out--pretty much everyone agrees that it's a really sharp book.  Anyway, you can email him for a copy if you're going to the con.

I'm just getting it from the library. Not in the mood for an e-book (unless you send me Hero of Ages!).

This time I'm going to try to actually read all the Hugo-nominated books, since there's no Bujold book to default vote for. :) I may try for the short fiction if it gets put online as has been done in the past.

Ditto. EUOL, I'm all for getting an e-copy of HERO once you start sending it alpha readers. I'd be returning with feedback, as promised! ;D
