Title: What metal is this? *spoiler*
Post by: Glacialis on October 25, 2006, 10:31:27 AM
When Vin is forced to burn an unknown substance by an Inquisitor and it eliminates her metal reserves.

What is it? Doesn't seem to be any of the mental four or physical four, and it doesn't match Vin's speculations on the temporal four. Thoughts?

This is a real spoiler, as I don't htink it comes out until book 3, but there are 16 allomantic metals.

Oh, I was fully enjoying the bit by bit revelations of the capabilities of allomancy. Brandon likely did that on purpose 8) so I fully assume there's more beyond the third group.

Which metal it is is revealed offhandedly in book 2, so I don't think it's all that big of a spoiler. It's aluminum. (Or aluminium if you're outside North America. ;) )

Hey wait, is it possible to burn coal, or no? Is coal even a metal?

coal isn't a metal, it's made of carbon.

Yeah, I was feeling too lazy to go check.

How 'bout titanium?

*sigh* just look at that graphic I linked, it shows which elements are metals and which aren't.

Are you talking about here, on Earth, with a lighter? In a star's core? By an allomancer?

Whether you can burn titanium is never revealed. Not sure they know about titanium.

It wouldn't really make sense for them to have titanium, since the first process to purify titanium was invented in 1910.
