Title: *spoiler* thoughts on the 12th metal
Post by: spence on November 02, 2006, 12:49:15 PM
Howdy all, first time posting... but I did look around a bit first to see if this was already being discussed and if it is, I can't find it.

So, I recently read Elantris and Mistborn, and have some thoughts ont he 12th metal.  In my opinion, Atium and the 11th metal appear to be paired (at least arguably so) based on the fact that atium allows one to see but not inerract with future possibilities, and the 11th metal allows one to see, but not interract with images aboutt he past.  also note, that both of these are external, which is to say that they are in reference to someone else.

Gold on the other hand, is more internal, or introspective, in that it lets you see who you were... but a key here is that you can also inerract wihth that person.  My gues is that the 12th metal allows one to see who they are likely to become, and interract wit that person.  This is actually pretty cool, as it would allow you to find out about future events from yourself.  Essentially you could learn fromt he hind-sight of who you might become.

Just a thought  :)

Pretty sure what alloy the 12th metal is and what it does has popped up several times on this forum, EUOL's advance readers can't keep secrets very well.

Isn't the Eleventh metal silver? Was I right in infering that?

Nope. The "eleventh metal" is called malatium. Silver does nothing.

So basically it's something I wouldn't know unless I had read WoA?

The 12th metal isn't revealed until book 3. :)

Curse you. Curse you with a sore cursing that will make your feet shrink to infinitesimal sizes and all of your hair to fall out.

But the 14th metal is revealed in book 2, so at least you have that to look forward to.

GRARGH!

Can't I just pay Brandon $30 or so for a read through book 2? Same as a hardcover, right? ;)

1) sometimes it's more fun to be there in person
2) the ninja monkeys are an extension of myself. thus, when they stalk, I am stalking

E, I've gained a new outlook on you, and it isn't one I want to have.

No, I'm scared, scared at the thought of you *ever* even wanting to stalk me.

now you're just letting your hyperactive imagination run away with you. Seriously, whatever gave you the idea that I'd want to stalk *you*?

If you look at my post I never said I thought you did want to stalk me, just that I was scared at the thought, assuming you ever would want to stalk me.

I love to stalk people it’s a wonderful sport.  Several years ago I found an author that was a good candidate to stalk (EUOL).  So I found out all about him, the place he lived, the church he attends and all that fun stuff.  I then moved into super stalk mode.  After a year or two I hade the opportunity to ramp up my efforts by giving him a calling that would make him be at a place of my choosing at a given time (very handy to stalk this way).  I continue to stalk about once a month, he thinks it is just going out to lunch but the truth is (I’m stalking). You should try it some time its fun.  8)

But who knows what the future brings? Maybe I'll end up filthy rich and famous and you *will* want to stalk me. Then my fear is justified.

I don't think that's something you need to worry about.

Plus if all you have is money, I'll just have the ninja monkeys steal it from you.
