Title: Evanescence!
Post by: Calaros on July 12, 2006, 03:38:01 PM
So... How many people here listen to/like the band, Evanescence? Or am I about to be shot for trespassing on donkeys?

I like Evanescence.  I once heard a friend of mine say he liked them because the lead singer chick was "&*%^ing insane" like it was a good thing.  That's not why I like them.  I like them because one song of theirs refers to druids and hollow trees.  DUDE THAT ROXXXORS!!!!!!

Eh, they're overrated.

Besides are they even around still?  They lost their songwriter back in November.

Rumor has it that Amy Lee is coming out with an album in October. I'm not sure if it's a solo album or if it's with Evanescence, but either way it should be interesting.

I'm afraid I'm only familiar with "Bring Me to Life." But that song is absolutely awesome!

I just about cried when I realized I couldn't get it on iTunes. I don't know if I want to invest in an entire CD...

Just make sure the CD you buy, if you do, it the mix with 12 monkeys or you get the crappy, Amy-lee only version with no backup vocals or good guitars.  *shutter* it's amazing how bad a song is when Evanescence does it by them selfs when it's a great song when they're working with another group.  She even sings it differently, no emotion at all in her voice (which is why I don't like them, she's so monotone when she sings).

I think Sprig and I tend to have differing opinions all the time when it comes to music. I have a couple albums here, and I likes them, quite a bit.

ANything with 12 monkeys in it though is worth listening too.

Thanks for the heads-up, Spriggan. I'll keep that in mind if I buy the CD--since the song I want is the one you hear on the radio.

You want the entire CD. Believe me. I finally broke down and bought it a couple of weeks ago, and I've been very glad that I did. It has several really good songs on it.

If you want to test drive it to be sure, you should come visit.  ;D

Thanks for letting me borrow the CD, Oldie Locks.

You're right. It is good. I'm just going to have to buy the whole CD. But now I know!  ;)

Personally, I like the lyrics to a couple of their songs, like "Hello" and "Taking Over Me".  I also like the tone of her voice, but I can see how some people would be a bit turned off by them.  They can be a bit repetative.

I like almost all their stuff. i'd have to say they are definitely worth listening to. they have good and bad song but i mean... seriously. who doesn't have a couple songs that just aren't all that good?

Good point.  Almost every band i've ever come across puts out SOME kind of crap during their career (with the exception of like... the RM sound track...  :D).

Luckily they didn't lose their only songwriter, and break ups are good for bands, in some cases. Look at Fleetwood Mac, No Doubt, and I am sure there are others that I am forgetting....

Anyway, I really liked the first album, but I think that I might like the second one a little bit better. I think that there was more feeling, something that was mentioned to have been lacking a bit in the first album. Amy has an amazing voice, I think.

Yeah, others include Red Hot Chili Peppers + Even Nirvana (Nirvana and Kurt Cobain were more succesful after his death and the bands break up)

According To Forbes Kurt Cobain earns the most money for a dead person, more than Elvis!

Anyway, I love Bring Me To Life. But it would not be as good if Paul McCoy did not provide backing vocals. They Rock Hard! Woo! Go Evanescence

This article at MSN describes quite nicely what I think of this band

You know that one girl from school who was absolutely certain she could sing, but really the only thing going for her was a powerful set of pipes capable of blotting out all other sound on the choral risers? And mean boys would make fun of her, but that didn’t stop her from bellowing every song on the radio? Well, now she’s in Evanescence, a sadly misguided group that thinks it’s rock or goth or something, but really it would make a great Heart tribute band. And apparently she’s mad at some guy.

They're not bad, but there are several foreign bands that came before them that are so much better. Among of them are: Within Temptation, Xandria, and Lacuna Coil. All of whom are, in my opinion, far superior.
