Look at his hands...

I watched Jedi with the commentary on and Lucas pretty much said this (Anakin/Dooku) was going to happen while talking about the Vader/Luke fight.

Post by: Dex1138 on January 12, 2005, 10:25:00 AM: Lucas mentiones in the audio commentary for Jedi that the Emperor was planning on replacing Vader with Luke because Anakin/Vader lost some of his power with the Force as he became more machine. He goes on to say something about the similarties with Anakin/Dooku. Maybe the Emperor was hoping Luke would turn and kill Vader? Sounds like his style.

A few EU books & RPG materials mention that in ESB, Vader is fully planning on turning Luke and 86-ing the Emperor.

It would also be entirely possible to turn Luke and not have him become Sith.

Since, y'know, the Sith do that because they need to remain hidden, and when one of those Sith is the Emperor, it hardly seems necessary anymore.

The Rule of Two was mainly to keep the amount of backstabbing to a minimum, so the Sith didn't try to wipe themselves out again.

Edit: I got the new Star Wars Insider magazine. Among the Ep3 preview photos is one of Palpatine and the caption mentions something about him being releassed from his shackles on a Trade Fed ship.
