Title: DC Collateral Damage
Post by: Spriggan on October 08, 2005, 04:22:42 PM
Next DC set is set, and it's got Kyle Rayner and the Click Brick LE is Krypto.  They're also adding new cards that are unique objects with new rules.

Here's a list of a few more confirmed characters:

Azrael (Unique)
Ambush Bug (Unique?)
OMAC (generic)
Captain Cold (Calculator Team)
Dr. Light (JLA villain)
Captain Boomerang (Owen) (Unique)
Ragman
Black Mask

Azrael could be a cool one. I wasn't really into Fantastic Forces, and Icons held little appeal for me, but both of these new sets look great.

Icons was a 50/50 set for me, I really didn't think any of the the titans needed to be redone except for Beast Boy nor did Cyborg deserve an Unique that's almost the same as the REV that's still legal.  Don't think we needed another Cheetah either or a RA's Unique.

Basically all the figs that were unplayable, ie Scarecrow, or had retired was worth getting a new figure that wasn't just a repeat of Hypertimes.  If they were in the last 2 sets they really shouldn't have been made unless there was something wrong with the figure.

Aside from Luthor the only figures I wanted from this set were the Jokers, Scarecrow, Bizzaro and the new Beast Boy and Robin. So maybe I should have just bought them off ebay, but then again we wouldn't be getting all those free card sets if I had done that.  Also I happen to really like Terra, man is she an underrated figure, a 60 point tactical nuke since you can use the TT TA to make sure she's on that sweet spot click with PW and 4 damage then you can TK her out into the middle of a group of enemies and use Nova Blast.  It's sad to see figures get torn apart by players becasue it's not another U Thor or generic power/build combo that 20 other figures have.

With Collateral Damage I'm quite happy that only 3 figures are going to be repeats and the rest are going to be new.  Now if they'd only get rid of Bystanders, at least they're adding back in Generics and hopefully one will be a medic.

Some pics from an advertisement.

I have to say that Ragman sculpt is pretty cool (even if I have no idea who the character is).  Also notice how Kyle has no sword or shield like he does on WK site which has started the rumor that he'll have 3 different sculpts.

It might just be a unique and an REV.

WK posted the first feat and it's pretty dang cool

Choose a character.

Characters with the same team symbol as the character and a lower point value than the character are not dealt pushing damage when a second token is placed upon them if they are adjacent to the character at the beginning or the end of an action.

Nice. Now there's finally an excuse for having Leadership on all those high point characters who can't get any other use out of it.

Awesome, the IL ata is up:

----------------------
Prerequisite: Injustice League Team Ability

All friendly characters with the Injustice League team symbol have the following team ability instead of the Injustice League team ability:

When a character attempts to Outwit a power possessed by a member of this team, roll one six-sided die. On a result of 1-3, Outwit cannot be used by that character on this team member that turn.
---------------------

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=10157

Also they posted an Awesome REV set, a monkey (can't remember the name) and the brain, where each of the REV figs are a different sculpt.  WK is really starting to step up with doing new things.

There's a promotion going on too, 4 box bottoms from any booster, except armor wars, and the receipt for those boosters and you can get a free random unique from CD

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/products.asp?cid=40492

Dono if I'm going to do this, I do have some left over booster bottoms but don't have the receipts any more.  I'll have to think about it since that would mean buying more Icons or Fantastic Forces.

There is some dang good stuff in there, though the best is still that Clayface mail-away. I'm going to have to find some way to get that.

It susprises me that they still use Elizabeth Bell as a sculptor--find a sculpt you hate and the odds are good she did it. Some of their other sculptors (like Steve Suanders, Brian Dugas, and Jeff Grace) are so good, with cool, dynamic figures, and Bell's are so static and ugly.

I'm very impressed with this new designer--the new figures are becoming very interesting, and look like they'd actually be unique to play (instead of just the same four powers repeated endlessly on every tough figure).

Some great sculpts like the 2 different ones for the GL and Red Tornado, the Emerald Empresses and I love that black mask sculpt.  Kalibak is a beast for only 140 points, I can see him getting played quite a lot.

Well Seth more or less posted today in the WK forums that he doesn't like how previous sets handed out 10+ attack values and he's only giving those to people he thinks truly deserve it because there should be more chance in HC.  So now everyone is complaining since in Icons there were such high defenses that none of the new figures can hit anything.  I'm glad he's doing that, all the 11-12 attack values were getting out of hand.

However I do wish there was a better variety of Villain TAs in the set, they're all Calculator with 2 batman enemy villains and a few mystics.  What's the point of giving 80% of the villains in the set the wildcard TA?
Title: Re: DC Collateral Damage
Post by: Fellfrosch on December 28, 2005, 01:49:26 PM
That does seem very weird. It's probably more a function of the set contraints than of the design--he was told to do certain characters, and he's just doint them as best he can.

The general impression I am getting about Seth is that he's an awesome figure designer but a poor set designer. He doesn't seem to think about how the figures will work together, or with past sets, he just takes each fig and does it in a vacuum.

Finally a large-size DC figure, and it even comes with a Hal JOrdan! (In one incarnation, it is Hal Jordan.) Why must they torment me? That's going to be expensive to pick up.

I MIGHT have a connection to get this for around cost + some reinbercement, one of the guys at Dragonskeep who goes to the trade shows in the summer for the store said he'd pick me up one if it was a DC fig since he only like marvel.  And since he goes to the dealer show he's guaranteed one.

We'll have to see though.

Another option is abusing Stacer, she'll probably be going to at least on Con that it'll be at, maybe we could convince her to stand in line for us?

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see Hal as a mailaway like Dark Phonex was on Armor Wars since they can probably make more of him, the huge Spector though has been limited to 5k only by DC.

Obviously I'm far more interested in Parallax than Specter. We shall have to see.

Parallax's stats are up and the WK forum has erupted into "he sucks", I personally disagree but do think he's a tad expensive for the powers he's got unless they forgot to add the Quintessence TA to him (willpower plus powers can't be countered)

He already has a bit of Willpower, which I doubt they'd do if he had it already through a TA. He's really a pretty good figure, though none of his movement powers are very good (Phasing is only occasionally useful, and Force Blast sucks). Not worth 270, but not horrible.

I'm very interested in three of your extras: V Ragman, V Clayface, and E Geoforce. I don't think I have any extras you don't though.

edit: They're not extra, but I do have three or four of the ones your missing that I would be willing to trade. Maybe I should wait and see what I can trade for Krypto, and try to pick up some of the stuff you're looking for.

Should have come to DK this week Fell, there aren't as many people now due to school being out and I walked away with first using Injustice League.  The guy that we didn't like moved away from Utah apparently so he's not there anymore.

I won Kyle and traded for LE Clayface (second place) as well as did some other trading.  Got the U Juggernaut and LE Cain Marko plus LE Spider Woman and Plastic man.

I picked up a Brick of CD today along with a handful of Sinister and Armor Wars.  I've always been a huge Marvel fan, but have recently been drawn into DC via Infinite Crisis.

Oh, I also picked up the Danger Room...very cool.

The good:  The brick of CD gave me complete REV sets of most about half the figs.  I got some really cool figs today! Overall, I'm very happy with the haul.

The bad:  Not as many uniques as I would have liked.  And I still don't have a Superman of any form from either this set nor from Icons.  That stinks!  I would have also liked to get more Green Lanterns, but I ended up with 3 copies of the rookie.  Also, I'd have loved to get a whole bunch of OMACs.  Didn't even get one.  Sigh.

Who knows if I'll actually ever play...these are just so much fun to collect.

Not a single superman in a whole brick? Bizarre.
Title: Re: DC Collateral Damage
Post by: Spriggan on July 05, 2006, 01:29:30 PM
Well I didn't get superman in my Brick either.  The problem with their new distribution of uniques (ie where they're much easier to get, trust me Mr. P in the old bricks you would have gotten 1, maybe 2 uniques max) has made some of the REVs hard to get.  Superman, Iron Man, E and V Kyle are all harder to find the the uniques from Armor Wars and CD.

Post by: Mr_Pleasington on July 05, 2006, 03:12:14 PM
If I could have just pulled an Iron Man and a Warmachine from any Armor Wars booster I would have stopped there.  It took about 9 boosters over the last few months and I finally pulled a rookie one of each the other day.

I still can't believe I didn't get any OMACs.  I really wanted at least a few...

I don't have any OMACs, or I'd send you some. And I'm still on the hunt for my Veteran Kyle.

I've got one OMAC, had an LE but traded it, and one super and an REV of Kyle.

I've got E Iron man and warmachine too, but I had to trade for them.  I'll keep my eyes out for some of those figures, see if I can't trade for them.

Post by: Mr_Pleasington on July 05, 2006, 04:53:22 PM
Thanks.

I know there's a HC community here, but I don't know what the age range is.  I really don't want to be playing with a bunch of pre-teens.

I do have some trade material though since I have double of the following uniques:

Icons Flash
AW Black King
CD Jonah Hex

err... I think there was another extra too.  I'll have to check again.
Title: Re: DC Collateral Damage
Post by: Spriggan on July 05, 2006, 05:05:30 PM
Icons Flash is a popular figure out here, and I have the only one at my venu, so I could possible use that as trade fodder and get several REVs for it.  I know one guy who would probably give me 4-6 regular figures for him, its just a question of if he has those you want.  He's been trying to get that figure from me for months.

I also know someone was looking for Black King, but I'm not sure if he ever got one or not.

I'll work up a 'wants' list here soon to see if we can work something out.

Here's a partial list:

REV OMAC
Kyle Raynor (CD)
REV Superman (Icons)
E/V Iron Man (AW)
E/V Warmachine (AW)
Ultimate Iron Man
Ultimate Thor
