Title: Allegiance
Post by: fuzzyoctopus on May 20, 2004, 12:14:18 AM
I don't know if any of you have heard of this, (I looked through the thread) but it's a new CCG that comes out mid-June, and my husband did artwork for one of the cards.

http://www.lucidraven.com/

Even better, Ludic Raven is based in Orem!    So I'm thinking... maybe I should get J.T. or Chris to write a review of the game for the site?  If so, how would they do that?

Use J.T.'s inside link (I assume he has one?) to talk to the top brass and request some cards for review. I'd be happy to do it myself, if you prefer, but given that you already have a link to the company I say go for it.

Interesting, but since they're a small start-up company not to barely break even on this project, they're not giving away cards.  He could set it up for you to borrow a set of test cards if you want to do a playtest.

That's why I suggested Chris or J.T. write the article, since they've already done playtesting.

Definitely check out the game - it's a good time, and I'm not just saying that because I worked on it ;)

And as far as product goes, yeah, I don't think they are planning on doing a whole lot with freebies for reviewers, though they are pushing their community a lot right now - they've got a couple of contests for booster boxes up on the main page. One just requires you to sign up for the forums and the newsletter, and the other requires you to post a message on who referred you to the game in their referral thread on the message boards. Of course, feel free to use me (jtkauff on the Allegiance boards, J.T. Kauffman in real life) if you're needing a name :)

Of course, for people in the area, there are going to be lots of demo games going on at the various shops, too, so anyone can get in on some free Allegiance lovin' if they are so inclined.

jt.

Sounds good to me. Let's try to get a review from one of you guys pretty quick, then, to help the game as much as we can.

Just thought I'd point out that Allegiance is coming out on Friday (June 18th). There are two contests still running:

1) Sign up on the forums (http://www.lucidraven.com/phpBB2/index.php) and post in the "referral" thread for a chance to win a box of boosters.

2) Sign up for the newsletter (http://www.lucidraven.com/mailing.html) (first one went out yesterday) for another chance at a box of boosters.

This one is looking really good; J.T. (Megan's husband) and I have been very involved with the game since way back in the concept stage and we're really looking forward to having actual product to play with.  :)

Looks intresting, but I'm going to have to protest any reviews done by JT or GuJiaXian due to their involvement with the company itself.  They are free, however, to write anyother type of article.  Maybe if you get us something for this thursday or friday we can post it for you.

Fell said in a post just above that he wanted one of them to write the review.  However, I agree that it might be better to simply make it an 'informative article' rather than a review.

I didn't have a problem with GuJiaXian till I noticed he's a forum mod wich, even if he's not paid, is still considered working for the company.  That being said since there are no review copys comming our way if either GuJiaXian or JT would like to lend us some cards, or show us how to play, we could do a reveiw from that.

Perhaps we could do some playtesting while Eric is in town.

As for the review, I'm planning on writing one for Leading Edge. Perhaps after playing, one of you could put something together for TWG.

As long as it dosen't get in the way of the Heroclix mega-brawl I think that might be a good idea.

Sounds good. Unlike a lot of other ccgs, Allegiance really shines with three or more players.

Hurm, maybe we can do a Q&A article for thursday or friday, what do you think GuJiaXian?  Would one of the designers be willing to answers questions via e-mail or IM?

Oh, I'm sure Andrew (the head guy) would love to. He's pretty busy (esp. with the game about to hit the shelves), and I think he's taking off soon to go to Origins in Ohio, but an e-mail interview should work well. He's "Monk" on the Lucid Raven forums.

I'm assumeing his e-mail in on those forums?  If not just e-mail it to me, anime@@@timewastersguide.com.  I'll get a series of questions togethor to send them off to him tomorrow, hopefully he'll have time to do this.

It would have been better to be reminded of the release a litte earlier so we could have planned better but just letting you know (since your in with them) you or they are welcome to shamlessly plug any events here or e-mail Fell.

Anyone that has any specific questions feel free to post them here, it's not gaurentied that we'll use them.  Also I'll be sending an e-mail out to senior staff so we can make a question list.

Sent, Spriggan. I agree, I should have posted about the release sooner, but life has been busy (full-time school Spring *and* Summer terms, finals this week, etc.).

No worries, we're going to e-mail Andrew tonight to ask if he has time to answer some qestions.

Was just talking with SE and we thought it might be fun to interview JT as well about doing artwork for a game.  I'll have to ask Fuzzy to ask him if he'd do that sometime.

As much as I hate admitting that Sprig is right, I think it's a good idea to avoid reviews from people who are affiliated with the company. That said, I would really love (really, really love) to get some kind of write-up about the game--perhaps a Q&A or a press release or a description of the game world--from GuJiaXian that we can post on Friday when the game comes out. That much playtesting experience is too good to ignore. Woudl that be possible?

Sure. Just tell me exactly what you'd like me to say. I'm one of four people that have actually seen the complete set (I edited the actual proofs from Cardamundi). I'm also in charge of the company newsletter (the first issue of which went out yesterday).

I want you to say how cool I am. *nod*

but seriously, describe the game. What's the appeal of it. essentially, give us an advert. But target it. remember that we're interested in things like interesting mechanics, settings, and themes. Tell us what is is supposed to simulate, etc.

Looks like they're release date got  pushed back to next week sometime due to a problem with the printer.  So hopefuly we'll find out when the new date is so if we get the answers back we'll know when a good time to run them is.

I have cards in hand as I type this. I've bought five starters already (with a whopping 65% of the set, after some trades).

Talk with Andrew and I'm sure he can set you guys up.

I'm still waiting on his reply to the interview questions I sent him over a week ago.  I realise that with origins and the game actualy comming out this week he's busy.  I'll be sending him a reminder this weekend if I haven't heard back form him.

Yeah, send him a reminder this weekend. He's *ahem* quite stressed at the moment.

Well we got the interview back, unfortunatly Andrew wasn't able to do it because of time restraints, but James was kind enough to answer our proddings.  It's a realy good interview so look for it tomorrow.

Spriggan did an interview with the game designer. Woot! This game sounds interesting. I wish the Kuglers had come to Intl. Gaming Night and showed us how to play.

I think it came out quite well.  I do kinda wish I would have done it over IM or in person (since their offiece is like a mile from my aparment) so there wouldn't have been some repeat answers.  Also there were a few things that I would have liked to follow up on.

The interview looks great. If anyone needs any other questions answered, feel free to ask them here or to post them on the Lucid Raven forums (www.lucidraven.com). I'm usually on the fourms during the day (also as GuJiaXian).

Well I'm just glad that we finaly got it up.  The timeing of the interview request was pretty bad.  I have to say that James answered the questions with a lot more info then I thought I'd get, that's why I there were some repeat answers.

I just wanted to say thank you for sending in the questioneer.  I was more than happy to get it in to you.  I am sorry about the delay as Andrew has been out of town quite a bit lately.  Ohio, Vegas, Jersey etc.

If you would like to come we will be showing off the game down at Game On 122 N. Main in Spanish Fork this saturday 7/17 at 5 PM.  There should be some events also coming up at Game Den and Dragon's Keep.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Ah, how time slips away from us. Anyway, noticed that there were some requests for some games/teaching people to play/etc. - I'd be happy to show off the game if there is still interest. Best thing to do is probably contact me directly: jt@@@lucidraven.com (or via fuzzyoctopus here on these boards, though the above is former is rather easier). I can easily grab enough decks for multi-player games if you just let me know a day or two in advance.

We also are going to be showing off the game this Saturday at Game Den in Provo starting at 2pm (until past closing time, easily). Andrew should at least be there, as well as myself and whoever else gets a free hour or two.

I'd also love to see about getting some decks together that we can (at the very least) loan to some of the local TWG people to see about a review on the site :)  As  has been previously mentioned, money is very tight for LRP, but there are plenty of people locally that at least have cards to lend out.

jt.

I just wanted to jump in again and say hi.  If you haven't had a chance to play yet, there are a few local shops that now have regular Allegiance nights.

Games People Play (University Mall) - Friday nights 6PM until everyone goes home

Game Den (Provo Town Centre Mall) - Tuesday nights

Game On (Spanish Fork) - Tuesday Nights

If you want one of us to be there to demo with you, just visit the forums at http://www.allegianceccg.com and ask.

Merry Christmas all!

James
