Title: Hey, Tage
Post by: EUOL on December 26, 2003, 04:19:01 PM
I've got a problem with my popmail account, and was hoping maybe you could help.  Any time I go out of town, Mozilla lets me receive emails, but it won't send any.  It says "The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server rickstranger.com failed.  The server may be unavailable or is not accepting SMTP connections.  Please verify that your SMTP setting is correct and try again, or contact your network administrator."

Any ideas on what causes this?  It works fine from our network at home, but it won't send from any other location.  I have to use yahoo mail if I want to communicate.

Sorry, you'll need to email your question.

Sounds like an SMTP auth problem, but if you're checking email first that shouldn't happen. When are you getting home?

Tuesday, probably.

Well, I'm not sure what would cause it. Just make sure your POP and SMTP settings are both rickstranger.com, and always check for email before you try to send. If that doesn't work, there may be a problem with the ISP you're using.

Hum.  Guess you'll have to show me what you mean when I get home.  I haven't been able to get it to work in Idaho, at BYU--or, actually, any place I've plugged into the internet except at hour LAN at home.

Er, it's not anything complicated. All I'm saying is to click the little box to check for email right before you try to send anything out.

Hum?  Oh, I was talking about the checking POP and SMTP settings part.  I did the 'check for email first' part, and it still won't send.

Tage: have you finished Part One of Way of Kings yet?  No pressure, but I'm waiting to read it.

Coincidentally, I've heard next to nothing about the book, yet I had a dream that I was in it last night.  I was the rival of the son of the God of Jealousy, and we were at a party.  And for some reason in the dream this was the plot of EUOL's book.

Actually I've finished the entire thing, so you can bug EUOL for it when he gets back from California on Saturday.

I recommend a courier with a gold plated serving dish.

Welcome back, EUOL.  Apparently we do not live too far from each other, so you can either email your contact information to the address on my profile, or call me (my phone number will be listed in the location portion of my profile today and tomorrow (8-9 May.)  I can just come by and pick it up.

Or we can work out some other way...I would like to read it.  Let me know how we can work this out.

This one's actually for Tage.

Is there ANY way we can make it so that my email account will send mail from other places?  I've never been able to get it to work anywhere besides our house.  It wouldn't work in Palm Springs, and it won't work in Idaho, nor would it work at BYU.   I always get the following message:

"Sending of the message failed.  The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server rickstranger.com failed.  The server may be unavailable or is not accepting SMTP connections.  Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again."

Is this a problem on my end?

I get the same thing with my TWG account.  I can revieve e-mails anywhere but I cannot send e-mail's via it.  Not even at home.

I'd suggest you probably need to set your smtp server to "Mail" in your mail client, though it differs depending on your isp.

Why not ask me about it at home when I can look at it?

Sigh.  Man, why do you have to "make sense" and be so "logical" all the time.  :)
