The developers of one of my favorite game series, Fallout, among numerous other hits, has closed its doors:

Well they aren't dead are they? So some will go here, others there. But they're tactful minds will still be around. And mayhaps they can help other crappy game makers make some quality stuff for once.
I dunno, just a thought.

ya the lead designer of Fallout 3 left the company last month virtualy ending the game. I think that had some affect on BIS.

The people will all go other places, Gemm, but the odds of them taking FAllout with them are very low. Unless, as Tage pointed out to me on IM, Interplay goes under as well. Wouldn't that be nice....

At this point just about all we can hope for is Interplay shutting their doors as well, and someone else picking up the Fallout license. Maybe the ex-Blizzard North guys who started their own company... Now THEY could do a bang-up job with it.

It's really unfortunate that Black Isle studios had to be shut down, but it's ridiculous to think that Interplay would be closing doors anytime soon. Interplay is a quite a big publisher and has a number of developers under it's banner. Personally I respect Inerplay for the high quality games that they have churned out in the past and would not like to see it shut down. I do agree that some of it's decisions over the past few years have been questionable but that does not overshadow the fact that they have published some really good titles.
As far as the future of Fallout series is concerned, I am really not worried. There are some really good developers out there who can do amazing things with the title. Micro Forte is an Australian game development house that had developed the game Fallout Tactics(also published by interplay). I think that if they are given the chance to create a sequel they would certainly come out with a winner. Currently they are working on a multiplayer game using their patented Big World technology and on a couple of X Box games. You can check out their site at:

Truly sad indeed. As it is, I recently discovered the truly remarkable Planescape: Torment for the first time. (Which has sicne become impossible to play since it crashes to the desktop as I load a game, but that's another story.)

Micro Forte did a pretty good job with FT, but I'd want them to hire a better writer before they attempted something like Fallout 3.

Gamespot's got 3 screenshots from F3 and quotes from a developer from the game.

Nooooooo.......
Not Fallout. This makes me really, really sad.
Fortunately, BioWare will continue to be around, which means we PC RPGers will have something to look forward too.
