Title: Stupid Sports
Post by: 42 on May 05, 2004, 01:29:35 PM
Okay, this sport helps me understand why my ancestors left Europe. Who would want to grow up being pressured to play these kind of games.

I don't think that even qualifies as a sport. Just... stupidity. IS there a varient of Koala bashing for ferrets?

Yes, any sport that will probably leave you sterile, is definitely stupid.

I think Portugal has their equivilent to this, all be it is a lot more popular.

Well, who came up with the idea to drop a ferret down their pants and tie it in there?  HONESTLY!  Maybe the same guy who thought of swinging a bowling ball at kids faces for fun...

No, I won't.

I played tennis all four years of high school; it's just- c'mon. Many sports are rather ridiculous when you think about them.  Especially the violent ones like football and rugby and hockey.

I run around in circles like a brain dead hamster(track)
and sometimes a throw a shotput into a goal and tackle people(hurling)[most brutal sport I've ever played]{really fun}

Oddly, though I've always been very much a bookworm, I don't find sports pointless.  I think the physical activity is good for you, and there's actually a good ammount of mental activity involved.

What I don't get, admittedly, is watching sports.  (They run to one side.  They run to the other side.  They run back, they run the other direction....)

it depends on the sport, some are fun to watch, some are not

Right, but baseball?  that game takes forever.  I could never sit in a hard seat in the sun in a stadium for 5 hours watching men run around.

I thought that was the only reason women watched sports Fuzzy?

Men in tight pants?  That's what ballet is for.  In baseball they're much much too far away for it to do any good.

"Get a load of the culture on that guy."

playing sports is not pointless

that society has arranged it so that a guy who throws a ball earns 8 figures while a teach can barely scrape by... that's pointless. Especially when the fans who are the cause of this bizarre salary scale complain that it's "selling out" to advertise on the bases. *rolls eyes*

Cultures and Tight pants is something I don't want to think about together, given the medical meaning.

Heh, fuzzy, try Cricket. It is famous that a spectator can fall asleep, have a nap, and then wake up... and nothing has changed in the game.

That reminds me on how the Brittish goverment, during colonial times, use to, whats a good way to phrase this, made other countrys feel less threatened by the Brittish goverment and it's military.  They'd send there Cricket team to other countries for "good will" games, and the team was under the implicit orders to allwayse loose.  And it actualy worked, heck they lost to the US team of the time (from new york).  There would be times that a goverment would be wary, upset with Brittian over something then they're team would beat the Brittish team and all was forgiven.

You know, though, we learned to play cricket in my high school one year and I thought it seemed a lot more fun than many other sports.  I can't figure out why it hasn't caught on in America.

It has. In new york there is a growing cricket league.

uhm.. you do realize that upstate New York hardly represents all of America?

And I'm sorry, I've resisted as long as I can:
"Cricket? CRICKET? Nobody unnerstands cricket! You gotta know what a crumpet is to unnerstand cricket!"

which implies that he said understand not unnerstand, which, of coarse, is not true.

In correspondence with the previous quote it could be assumed that the half that he needed to complete would be the half of saying unnerstand instead of understand, which he did.  What other part of the task is mentioned?  None.  Therefor the half which he needs to complete would be the half of saying unnerstand instead of understand, which he did.  This means unless you clarify he was all the way there and your comment was both incorrect and unnecissary.  Almost as unnecessary as this one...

he said unnerstand, but he didnt say he understood a crumpet so the other half he needed is understanding a crumpet

You neither referenced that you were speaking of understanding cricket as what he was halfway to nor did you mention that he needed to understand crumpets as his other half.  You didn't even mention crumpet at all...

You use the mallet to hit the lucky red ball (or if you get stuck with the unlucky blue one you wanna hit it) through the wickets.  That is how you play.  For scoring you will have to ask someone else...
