Title: Free Word Processor
Post by: The Jade Knight on November 28, 2005, 03:32:22 AM
So, Ari's using Microsoft Works, which is absolutely abominable, and I just discovered it doesn't autosave documents.  This is very bad for Ari; even Eudora and GMail autosave stuff - so why put up with a word processor that doesn't (especially because she's not in the habit of regularly saving, herself)?

At any rate, can anyone recommend a good freeware Word Processing program for Ari to use?

Surprised you don't know about http://www.openoffice.org/

Don't use it myself, I'm a Word person, but I've heard lots of good things about it.  It doesn't do everything that Word does, but it's a lot better then Works (well just about anything is better then Works).

Word also has a crash recovery feature that it will save a temp file in the word directory if the program or PC starts to die.

I might be able to, depending on how much physical and/or psychological pain I am allowed to inflict.  8)

I got a student discount price at a store in California. All I had to do was show them my college ID. If Ari is going to break down and get Word, she should do it while she is still a student and can get a discount.
