Over at CM, they suggested role players have a secret symbol you can leave out on your desk that only other role players would understand. This way, we can meet each other without coming out.

I love it, MsFish. Perfect.
-
So is this a new bi-weekly column?
-
I hope so.
You go, Nerd Girl! ;D
-
So is this a new bi-weekly column?
Well, depends if people *want* it to be a bi-weekly column. I have a lot of material, but it was really just an idea I was throwing around. I'll write more if you guys like it.
-
well, if you check your email you'll see that I asked you if you thought you could deliver every other week. If you can, you're in
-
very good article.
-
As a nerd girl just recently out of the closet, I have to say I want more MsFish. Though I'm not sure of the extent of my nerdiness, since I have mixed feelings on role-playing. I may only be a literary nerd.
Guide me, oh wise one! ;)
-

I didn't get an email from you.
Where did you send it?
-
the savepaul address. It's what's in your profile.
You can just tell me here, too
-
I didn't get it there either.
Yeah, I think I can do every other week.
-
You rock, MsFish.
-
I have to say that this is one of our better-written columns. If you can do one every other week, rock on.
-
and we've had (including inactive ones and the CoH blog) all of 5 columns. SO when he says "one of the best" he's saying that you spank me in quality.
-
Aww. Thanks guys!
-
I like it. I hope you keep up with a regular column. It's always so much more interesting proofreading columns like this...
-
I liked it too. A+
-
a comment on Ms. Fishes article, I too have stopped bothering to tell people what game Im playing, and often half heartedlly say... its like D&D...
Its something that grates on my soul, because Growing up I had to deal with a lot of Jack Chick like D&D hate...
-
Because the road to hell is paved with lead minatures and polyhedral dice.
-
i like that quote.
-
It's a paraphrase of the MST3K version of Jack Chick's tract about D&D--see the link I posted on Jeffe's Jack Chick thread.
-
and it rocks....
-
I don't comment much, but this article was definitely comment-worthy . . . even though I'm not a girl (unless the king has been lying to me). :-/
Keep the articles coming!
-
Zed, I'd pay money to see you in an iron dress.
-
/me raises his eyebrow quizzically
-
*Fish just laughs
-
so care to drop any hints on your next article,... and will it deal with Cosplay? ;)
-
My only hint is that Chimera and I are going to go do research for it in an hour or so.
-
.... research... then it must be Cosplay... even better cause you work at a faberic store :)
-
what does cosplay stand for anyway?
-
Cosplay a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words "costume" and "play", is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, Japanese movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.
-
i knew it meant dressing up i just wondered what the word meant, like where it came from. thanks for the explanation.
-
Fish, I think also if you ever go on vacation then one of us could write a guest column for you!
-
Agreed. I like the article and hope it encourages more ladies to embrace their inner nerds. Gamers of the world unite!
-
Oh, and I just notice Mad Dr. Jeffe's (new?) quote. Sweet.
-
yeah... Im on a roll today.
-
It just reminds me of when I went to the filk convention - I went by myself - and they asked if my husband was into filk. I said no, and they asked if he was into other geeky things. I was like, "Oh yeah, he's into gaming and roleplaying and sci-fi and everything," to which they responded, "Oh good! At least you didn't marry a mundane."
-
hehe. what is filk by the way?
-
You know there's this fabulous search website called google where you can look up things....
-
or a less fabulous but often fun place called Wikipedia if you dont want to see naughty stuff...
Or have you punched in cosplay into google and checked out the images lately... :D
Arrrgh my eyes!!!!!!
-
My only hint is that Chimera and I are going to go do research for it in an hour or so.
Research. Bah. Research that had to be followed by an activity that counteracted the nerdiness.
I'm still not entirely comfortable with being a geek. ;)
-
there are support groups for people like you, we call them D&D games.
-
Fish, I think also if you ever go on vacation then one of us could write a guest column for you!
Oooh, yeah! Guest columns would be awesome.
-
I know I don't work or post here anymore, but I needed to say this:
Woot for Fish! New Column, New Column, New Column!
-
you realize the only person who keeps you from being here is you right?
-
What about the hairy dudes the size of ogres who have me in a headlock with a gun against my head?
-
figments...
-
Please - the figments in my imagination grabbing me that closely are much more attractive than hairy ogre dudes.
Anyway, even if I am dillusional, what are you onna do, put me in the corner?
-
No. We're going to tell you to stick your tongue out at your dilusions and come hang out with us.
-
After all, the Peanut Butter's been awfully oppressive since you've been gone.
-
I would very much like to tongue many of my dillusions, but hanging with you people is against my religion.
-
if you were a gnome i bet that +2 to illusions would help you overcome your dillusions.
-
*Fish pictures Jam as a gnome and is afraid
Oh come on, Jam. Come back and play with us! Don't make me beg.
-
As I said, against my religion. The Son of Man is come once more, and He shall judge the bigotry, hatred, repression and evil done in His name by the Blasphemers.
-
Blasphemers = Peanut Butterians, right?
-
Wow, just reading that article made me feel so much better about myself as a nerd girl.
