Title: Monarch of the Glen
Post by: stacer on April 05, 2004, 02:38:01 AM
Has anyone else seen this British show? Both PBS stations here play it, though I can never remember when it's on and only catch it haphazardly. It's really funny. This guy has agreed to be the laird of his father's estate (set in modern-day). There's an Irish cook, a guy who runs around in a kilt talking nonsense half the time, quirky country neighbors, etc. It reminds me a lot of All Creatures Great and Small in tone--part drama, part comedy.

So I see it so infrequently that I think I should rent it on DVD and watch it from the beginning. I think my library has it.

Entropy, have you ever seen it? How recent is the show? (I know that most of the British TV we get here is several seasons behind, if not already cancelled.(

According to the IMDB it's still running.

Sounds good though.  KUED's website says they show it, but I've never seen it.  I'll try to look it up sometime...

Edit:  Ach, it's on at 10 on sundays.  If you'd posted this 2 hours earlier....  ;o)

My parents and I watch that show, because we get BBC America. It's one of my personal favorites. But nothing beats Blackadder.

Yes, but nothing beats the WWI Blackadder

you're all wrong.

I don't have an alternative, I just wanted to participate in the high intellectual argument that made up this discussion.

Oh, I'm sorry.  This is abuse.  You want room 12A, just along the corridor.

I'm a threadjack and I'm ok. I troll all night and I spam all day!

Which leaves the door open for the NEXT Monty Python skit reference....

I was actually thinking of "Spam spam spam spam!" but we can go with that too (I was hopping skits, not staying within them)

Hey! I saw 14 replies and thought, wow, everyone's discussing Monarch of the Glen! Humph.

Fuzzy, it's on here at 10 on Sundays, too. So if I'd gotten online right after, then I might have caught you, but it was close anyway. At least, I think it's 10 on Sunday. Could be 11. I'm not sure what time I started watching it, sometime between 10 and midnight. :-/ Anyway, definitely check it out for next week.

Alas, I'm running around like a headless chicken today, trying to get my projects done and get ready for my first day of work tomorrow.

Maybe next week.   ;)

It all makes so much more sense now! I just checked out Season 1 on DVD from the library. It's so much more funny in order.

I looked on Amazon and found out that seasons 1 and 2 are on DVD. The library doesn't have season 2, though. But I think that's what's playing on PBS right now, so I should try to stay up Sunday night. Also figured out that it's on Friday nights here on the other PBS station, but I'm rarely around Friday nights.

It's on, it's on! And i'm watching it!

Will I have any clue what's going on?

Well that was fun. I got to see 10 minutes of it, and then our power went out.  For an hour.

Obviously, stacer, this show and I were not meant to be.

I've already watched three seasons since we talked about it last. I don't know how it's cycling in your area, but right now I'm somewhere in the 3rd season, I think. It's so funny! When I first started watching it, it was in this season, and it all makes so much more sense now. It was funny before, but now it's hilarious, now I know what's going on.

Just so you know, the first and second seasons are on DVD. You could probably find it at the Orem library--they have an amazing selection of videos and DVDs. You can use your Provo Library card there. Perhaps Provo has expanded by now, too, though when I was there it was not really worth your time. Of course, that's if you live in Provo or Orem, because now I can't remember.

Anyway, keep trying! It's worth it! How did it start? Was Archie taking a picture of Golly and asking to have 12 people in to fish the river? If so, we're on the same schedule.

Erm, it was a bunch of people walking down a path to a house talking about a party or something.

Hm. Must be on a different cycle than we are.

If I think of it, I'll start taping it when it cycles round again. It only airs once a week, so it'll take a while to fill a tape, but there are only 8 episodes per season, and there have only been 4 seasons so far, I think. At least, only 4 released to the States.
