So now that I'm an iPod nerd, I was wondering if we could push the boundaries here a bit and experiment a bit with Podcasting.
I was thinking of doing an interview with a friend of mine who is big into the RPGA and also a published gaming author. Some sort of "Nerdery Live!" set up.
All I'm lacking is a mic, which is easily remedied. Just wondering if this was something there is interest in.

Dude Ive discussed this in other forums for a month now...
get with the program...
:)
Seriously Im way ahead of you... Saint and I are working on some free server space as we speak and I have the first one all ready done...
However we could figure out a way to do a co broadcast...
:)

I don't know anything about podcasting. Is it iPod specific, or is it something as simple as putting a sound file up?
Yeah, I saw you two talking about that, Jeffe. What all is involved in podcasting?

I am Johnny Behind-the-Times
-
and I think Podcasting is a good way to grow readership...

I think Tage wants some more technical info about the requirements. Can you supply it?
I'm currently writing some theme song lyrics. I'll probably make up a simple tune to go with it (about all I'm capable of) but if someone else wants to compose the music, I'm all for letting you take over.
-
none for TWG, its basically an MP3 clip that some of our less handy enabled computer users can download to their players or music programs and listen too... they can set an RSS browser to get it automatically...
All we have to do at twg is put a link to where it is on the host...
-
Does podcasting require an RSS feed then?
-
Well to recive it as a podcast yes... but not to send it, at least not for what I have in mind... actually all it requires for you guys is a link to the casts on the site Erics gonna set up... we can do the rest of the RSS stuff from there...
Think of it as a PODcast link page...
People interested in podasting can download Ipodder for free, or just click on the link and download the mp3 files....
-
If your theme song has slant rhyme, SE, so help me I'll take it out of your hide.
-
Heh, we do mention Ginger Rodgers.. and Ninja monkeys...
-
I wasnt trying to scare you off at all Mr. P. In fact through the miracle of moder tech We could do the Podcast together... if you were so inclined...
-
Setting up an RSS feed is easy enough. Do you need RSS .92 or RSS 2.0? I can send SE the PHP file that generates and manages it until TWG 4.0 (which will have RSS feeds).
-
I'll have to check up on it... all my tech pubs are at home...
-
Just googled it, it's RSS 2.0.
Here's a link with software for it

And somepeople take this way to seriously

I use IpodderX
Actually MWG blog is the guy who's teaching me how to do it...
I've sent him several Emails and he's helped me out a lot...
-
I wasn't scared off, Jeffe, just away running an Eberron game.
If we could figure out how to do it, I'd love to be onboard.
-
Well I have a few ideas....
I'll email you tomorrow sometime re my ideas...
-
Talk about timeing, guess what one of the USA Today's front page stories is?
Anyway I'd like to get the backend working on this before you actualy finish anything, that way you don't have to wait to get things going. Also I don't see why Jeffe and Mr. P can't do seperate shows if they want, it might be easier in the long run.
I'll work something up this week that will be just some test MP3s, I don't have an iPod so one of you will have to check to see if it works.
-
I'm guessing this is like recording something and then uploading it to your PC, and then to the web finally putting it somewhere reasonable.
Well, my mp3 player has a built in mic and voice recorder. Not exactly sure what I'd do with it, but hey, if you throw me ideas I'll be happy to try them out.
-
Record the sounds your ego makes when punctured.
-
Ok, I'll e-mail it to you. What's the addy?
-
I actually rhymed a line with Ginger Rogers with one about monkeys. You'll like
I will now include slant rhyme at least once, just to torque off Fell.
-
yay! Slant Rhyme...
-
Ill send you a sample of the Tags tonight Sprig
-
even though its called podcasting it'll work with any mp3 device, including a computer sprig.
-
Well I know how RSS works, I can test it on my PC, but I cannot test the iPod end thats all.
I don't need a copy of the code, I know what the RSS needs.
-
ok, just trying to help..
-
I know, Just letting you know to spen d your time on your show then on the back end.
-
cool...
-
So I take it this idea died?
That's disappointing.
Get back on it you two! I demand satisfaction!
-
Its not dead, Im working on it now actually, But I doubt I can do too much before about mid june...
But we will see If I can get a teaser out.
-
I find it funny that Microsoft has podcasts, but then again they do own a hefty chunck of Apple.
-
