I feel weird posting out of the blue when I actually do browse here fairly frequently. :) Mostly to see updates on Mistborn and stuff, actually, but also to catch up on the old TLE gossip.
Speaking of gossip, I'm not sure if I've told y'all that I'm expecting a baby April 2. He's a boy, and I think we'll name him Raoden. Okay, maybe not.
Also, my husband has been looking for editing work since early October and has found nothing by looking the normal ways. I know at least several of you are working as editors (whether in Utah or elsewhere), so if you know of any job openings where you work, please let us know. His email address is jonathon at galacticcactus dot com if you need to reach him.
Thanks!

Well, if you didn't already, look at the "Hey Ms. Fish" thread on the same page and look at the Wizard's link. Three postings for editor jobs there.

Shhh... Don't give away TWG's plan to take over WoTC.
-
Well, technically Ruthie is part of TWG and her husband by proxy, so he counts.
-
First time post != part of TWG. And TLE and TWG != same thing anymore.
-
That was not my first post (you'll notice this one is my fifth, not my second); I just haven't posted much. Actually, I think I registered for TWG a long time ago under a different name, but I couldn't remember what it was, so I registered again.
Thanks for letting me know about the Hey Ms. Fish thread, Tink.
(It drives me crazy to feel like I probably know many of you but not by your screen names. :))

See, I only tell you guys these things because of *my* evil plan: get all my friends to move to Seattle. And it seems to be working. Muahahahaha. ;)

Ruth can be part of TWG if she wants to. She hung around with us in TLE when TWG was forming, so she's a founder-by-association.
-
Ha! I've been vindicated by Tage (who has much more authority than me). Yea!
-
Have any of you played Darwinopoly since that night at EUOL's workplace lobby?
-
Ooh, nice use of name-dropping. Take that, Sprig!
-
;D

That was ages ago, wasn't it? But actually I introduced it to my highschool friends back in Ohio and they loved it. I have no idea if any of them still play it though.

Yes she can be a part of TWG, I never said that she couldn't, she's just not right now. In my mind, to be a 'part' of this website, you have to have worked and contributed to it for a significant amount of time.

I still regard Fell as being a newbie, and he created TWG. :P

Ruthie, what state are you in? Would you mind LA? Does your husband like manga? Is he a good copyeditor?
Not that my company is the most secure place to work at the moment, but unless they just hire back the copyeditor who got fired a couple weeks ago (which is entirely possible), there may be an opening when I leave...because I'm going to Utah. (And am looking for work in Utah now...*sigh*)
-
Why on earth are you coming back to Utah?
-
Because California is Babylon and everyone knows there's internet perdictions that 2006 is the year that the state will be sunk into the ocean via an earthquake.
-

Utah
Would you mind LA?
Um, well, to be frank, California sounds fine to us, but the job would have to pay well enough for us to live on only his income with a baby. I don't want to have to work with an infant.
Does your husband like manga?
Um, I'm not sure, but I'm sure he wouldn't be opposed to it considering some of his other jobs have been editing software technical manuals and marketing reports.
Is he a good copyeditor?
The best. And I'm not just saying that because I love him. :) Okay, you probably want specifics:
1. He practically has Chicago memorized. As in, you ask a question, and if he can't tell you exactly which section it's in, he'll be able to find it for you before you realize he's picked up the book.
2. Doris Dant (editing professor at BYU) called him the best editor she'd ever seen come through the program.
3. A retiring coworker at one of his jobs told him that he probably knew more about editing than she did.
Despite all this, he's humble and nice and funny. But editing is his passion and he really doesn't want to have to take a non-editing job just to put food on the table.

Yeah, good luck with that. Utah's a black hole for editing jobs right now. Though, you've got more post-graduation experience than my husband does, so you might get more consideration (we both just graduated in April).
-
I'm going back to Utah largely because of Karen's grandparents who need someone to stay with them for a while.
I make $30K a year, which isn't that great to live on around here, though it might be done.
-
Wow only 30k? The tech support job I just applied for pays that much starting.
-
Welcome to editing.
