Ok, I know I'm behind the curve, but I finally decided to see if it was all that. It is. I've only watched the first 4 hours though, so until I get back to the store and rent disc 2, please keep it to that.
Question, to anyone else who's seen this. The chick in the photograph at the end of ep 4, the one who told Joe to bomb CTU, is that Sutherland's wife? (I saw it at like, 2am, and didn't have the energy to go look for one of hte scenes with the family portrait, and the DVD had to go back this morning)
-
It's been too long since I've seen season 1, so I can't answer your question, but I had to chime in and say it's worth it. I had a 24 marathon one weekend, when I was supposed to be cleaning my room... Didn't get too much of that done because I couldn't tear my eyes away. I can't wait to rent season 2. I kept missing it on TV. So even though I saw the season finale, I didn't see much before that.
-
I just bought season 2, and I'm excited to start it. I don't know which chick you're talking about though. It all kind of blurs together, especially since everyone I know tends to watch it in marathons.
As a warning, the writers get a little... desperate in the second half of the first season. It gets a little contrived, but hey, it's still a GREAT show.
-
I'm hoping to rent disc 2 soon. Actually, I'm going to look at prices. If it costs less than say, $25 for the set, it's cheaper to just buy the thing.
-
Darn. $40 is the cheapest I can find it used. So uh.. guess it's back to renting.
-
I have a few on dvd I picked up cheap which one do you need?
-
discs 2-6. That is, noon to 8 am. Everything but the first one.
-
no, sorry I just have disc 1... thought I had bought 2.
-
If you ever come to Utah again, Eric, I've got all the DVDs from 1st and 2nd seasons.
-
oh, welll... that's the one I've seen. I'll just have to catch my friend on IRC sometime.
-
heh isn't pirating wonderful!
-
Actually, I meant to ask him a question. with dial up, it's EASIER to rent than to pirate.
-
WAGH!
I've just been informed I'm watching season 2
It's time to stop and go locate a copy of season 1.
No wonder everyone is confused.
I'll come back when I'm doing this in the right order.
-
So last night I went to rent season 2, and Hollywood Video doesn't carry it. Can you believe that? I almost bought it at Best Buy, but $60 was a little too much.
-
lol. Watching the wrong season??? Well, guess you know how the story ends up...
-
actually, I only watched the first 4 episodes before I was warned. Found out my sister-in-law has season 1, so I borrowed that, and I've watched the first 2 hours so far. be watching two a day or so for the next couple weeks.
-
Yes, but the problem is that you know a lot about who survives the season and who doesn't. Oh, well--it's still a good show to watch.
-
Yeah, there are at least 4 important plot elements that I've already discerned. But that's ok, i'm still enjoying it.
-
So my roommate and I were up till 2 in the morning watching Season 2. It's a good thing I only rented the first 2 disks, or we'd have been up till 6. It's just so compelling, you have to know what happens next! We couldn't stop. We're addicted. Now I want to go tomorrow and rent the next couple! But I have homework to do. Dang. :-/
-
yeah, as much as I'm enjoying season 1, I liked those first 4 hours of season 2 even more.
-
anyone ever consider pulling a 48?
-
that's too long for a single season. Yes, there are 52 weeks in a year, but generally only twenty-something in a programming season.
-
No I meant staying up 48 hours straight to watch it.
-
erg... I think the hallucinations you'd be having at the end of that marathon would be taking more attention than the actual show.
-
yeah but just think of the suspense!
Did jack really defeat the evil ravaging mushroom? Or did the tile grout pay to have the omlette killed?
-
Can we all say that "someone" is picking up habits from someone else?
-
Ok, i've just reached 4pm. Everything is cool and plausible. until 3:55
AMNESIA?! AMNESIA?! What is this? Bugs Bunny?!
-
Ha! I was just WAITING for that.
The problem is, that's not the worst one. Well, okay, it might be. But there's one OTHER big, random, poorly-conceived problem with Season One. You might already know what it is, having watched the beginning of Season Two.
Anyway, the first half of Season One is absolutely amazing. The second half is, well...Tage and I joke that they must have let the interns take a hand at writing a few of the hours.
-
Well, I had already decided not to buy this, since I have problems watching 2 hour movies, a 24 hour story would just gather dust much of the year. And since I borrowed instead of buying, I'm goign to let it go and keep watching.
-
I don't remember the amnesia. Refresh my memory. It all blends together when you watch it in a marathon.
-
"don't remember the amnesia" is a terribly funny thing to say.
At the end of the 3pm hour, Bauer's daughter and wife are in a car running from a bad guy (who have infiltrated their safe house). They hide on a small dirt road, and the guy passes. Mom gets out for inexplicable reason. Car falls down mountain and blows up. mom faints. Mom wakes out and tells helpful passer by she can't remember her name. Once she's gone, daughter wakes up, having been thrown from the car before it blows up.
Amnesia may be brought on by stress and trauma like this, BUT, it's got such a bad rep they should have recognized, and it really is only used in Looney Toons and Days of our Lives.
-
Ah, yes, I remember now. I thought it was pretty dopey too.
-
well, I finished it over the weekend. I liked it. I'm not sure which part EUOL thought was as the amnesia. I suppose it could be who the mole was, I certainly figure out how she did all the helping early on if she knew so much, but I wasn't so put off that I couldn't deal with it, though I'd have to see the first part again to decide how reasonable it was. True, it wasn't a big surprise (like it was for my wife, who started watching it with me -- and couldn't stop). I guess I figured she lost her job for helping Jack and went over the edge though, instead of being bad the whole time. Thoughts?
I need to get a copy of season 2 so I can catch up.
-
Well, the problem is, Nina was supposed to have been bad the whole time. But her character showed NO signs of it until right when they needed her to. Ady and Nate (from TLE) watched it a second time through and said there was absolutely no indication of Nina being a bad apple.
But even though it felt dumb in season 1, it led to some great scenes in season 2.
-
well, I guess so. But it's hardly as cheesy as the amnesia thing.
-
Not as cheesy, true. You have a good argument for the amnesia being a larger problem. Still, the Nina thing was such a fundamental change in the way the story worked that I thought it should have been handled better. It was supposed to be an Ender's Game ending, one where you say 'ah, so that's why x and y happened. It all makes sense now.' Instead it was more a 'What? No, that doesn't make sense. What about x and y?'
However, it was still very good. I think I actually liked Season Two a bit better, but that might just be because it lacked serious problems (other than Kim...)
-
Ok, yeah, but good as a freshman outing. I'm just not thinking about it so I don't have a problem. LA LA LA LA LA! I can't HEAR you!
(someone get me season 2)
-
Well, Tage will be in DC in a few weeks, and he owns season two....
A little begging might get a loan--but you'd have to watch the entire season in like five days.
-
I don't think I can pull that off
But I have already seen eps 1-4, adn my wife says her sister recorded eps 19-24, so I'd only need 14 hours, and that's doable in 5 days if I stay up late a lot
-
Talk to Tage. I only pointed out the possibility; he's the ones with the DVD's.
-
Probably not going to happen, since the logistics would be difficult.
-
feh, I will have to devour your soul then.
-
It's STILL snowing, and they canceled our annual Christmas gala dance tonight, and even canceled church tomorrow. So tonight we're all cozy and warm inside with smelly candles and hot chocolate and we're watching season 1 of 24. Now that I'm watching it for a second time, I think there are clues that make me wonder about Nina all the way through--how she left the safehouse early, how disappointed she acted when she found out that Jack's family was rescued safely from the kidnappers, etc. Not strong, but tiny little clues.
-
Hate Nina. Hate hate hate kill kill kill.
-
Yeah, I finally watched another disc
so I'm halfway through season 2 now
couple of thoughts: this one is much more predictable. I knew from the time she showed up that the president's ex-wife was evil, and I had an inkling of just how evil. I was pretty sure about several other things as well, like how Jack Bauer didn't really have the kids killed. So I haven't run into any surprises (well, it still wasn't really a surprise, but exactly who was evil with the Warner family I wasn't positive about, but still)
Despite that, it's MUCH MUCH more interesting psychologically than the first one. The President making decisions, every 15 minutes of one versus the many, how to function with a known enemy in your cabinet. what Jack has to do. I'm liking it
Oh, and no amnesia so far. it is pleasing.
-
I don't recall any big amnesia-style problems in season two. Over-all, it was better done than season-one--however, it suffered a little from 'been there' syndrome. Also, enough with the daughter and the president's wife, already. They both got very annyoing very quickly.
