That seems a common spousal response.

I will say that teaching college is a great job.  And, you might not even have to have the PhD yet to get a job doing it.  BYU, for instance, will give 'one year appointments' to teach four classes a semester to anyone who has at least a Master's degree.

That was an example, SE, not a suggestion.  However, I was assuming--and I'm not sure why--that you already had a master's degree.  If you don't, then you're right--most community colleges require at least a master's, I think.

In which case I reiterate my original stance.  Take the classes while someone else is willing to pay for them.

Part of what he said earlier, I think, was that there aren't any universities near with a good program.

well, I can take language classes around here. Don't see how those can be much worse than anywhere else. Just need to memorize rules and vocab.

The programs I really want are in Indiana and Northern California. Indiana, I know from experience, is a really lame place. I dont' know anyone in No. Cal. But that's beside the point. My real other problem with going to school is that I don't want to work while taking classes. I've done that. I feel so busy I stop doing homework. I want to excell if I go back. Maybe it'd be different if I was teaching while doing classes, but I don't know.
