Wow, I saw this movie yesterday and all I have to say is wow. Tim Burton is a damn near genius. The story, characters, plot, everything about this movie is excellent. Everything about it is just so touching. Every character is somehow either fun or just so touching. And the one person's wife is french, and cute. So I guess I won't be so hard on the french as much.
But overall, great film. Everyone should see it. And I mean everyone. That includes Entropy, 42, Tage, Fell, SE, Brenna, MoD, etc, etc, Jeffe, and so on.
-
I plan too, I understand its about telling stories and beliving in your loved ones. My kind of movie.
-
From the first time I saw the trailer for this, I wanted to see it. Looks amazing. I was annoyed it went into limited release for so long before coming out here. Haven't see it yet, though--will have to go next week.
-
I haven't even heard of it before. Talk to me goose
-
The defense department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid.
-
Eh. I'm not gonna watch a movie without comedy, gunfire, or all of the above.
-
What about strangeness? This is, after all, Tim Burton we're talking about. The movie is bound to be a little bit abnormal.
-
Yeah, just look what he did to Batman
-
Tim burton, tim burton...
Nope, I dont think I've watched one of his movies.
-
edward scissorhands
first two batman movies
the planet of the apes remake
nightmare before christmass
sleepy hollow
to name a few.
-
If you haven't seen the Nightmare Before Christmas, you should run out and rent it.
And Sprig, you forgot the paramount Tim Burton film: Beetlejuice. A true classic.
And, of course, there's always Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. He also did Mars Attacks, but that one's a little less popular.
-
Hmm. I love sleepy hollow, the batman movies were trash, planet of the apes was average. I saw beetlejuice when i was 10 or something, been wanting to watch it again ever since.
-
I can't believe *anyone* can rate PotA average when he calls the original Batman "trash." I mean, yeah, it's not hte greatest, but Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton both did pretty incredible jobs. And Burton didn't screw it up that bad. THere's a couple things I didn't like, but over all it was pretty solid.
-
I really liked the original Batman--and I think Burton added a lot to the feel of the movie. PotA is, in my opinion, his weakest movie.
-
yeah, come to think of it. It's Batman Returns that I have my qualms with. And really, I don't have that many for that. It's when you get to the third one (that I don't believe Burton worked on) that they started really doing lame things like gang fights in dayglow paint.
-
Yeah yeah, i have no taste.
Ooh, thats big fish. I've seen trailers for it. Nope, not interested. :)
-
Hey, I thought I was the only person who would admit to liking Beetlejuice.
-
I won't ADMIT to liking it... but...
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE SENORA!
-
I was 10 at the time, I don't think that counts :P
-
I like Beetlejuice, and Mars Attacks. But Big Fish is also filled with abnormalities, humor even when dealing with death, and just overall a round-about movie.
-
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE SENORA!
We've really got to do something about this ear-worm planting. I know what will solve it: you can send me a set of headphones that have a cord that reaches to the back of my computer here at work--the reason why I don't often listen to music at work, and thus the reason why I get songs stuck in my head.
Also, this brings back memories of the worst routine we ever did with my high school dance team. It's WAY too slow a song to do a pep rally routine to.
-
I just use a radio. But then, I finally have a job where I have my own office!
-
stacer, they make extension cords for headphones--I think they are like $3 and you can get them at any electronics, sound system stores (ex: radio shack--though they are incredibly overpriced).
Email me your address and I will mail you some.
-
Actually, Radio shack is fairly reliable. If you pay more than a buck for your cable there, you usually get a pretty good cable. And they have the best selection of cables and adapters I've seen without having to order online (with books, I order online, knowing author/'title is enough, but with electronics, I like to have my fingers on it before forking over cash
-
I'm sorry, but $5 for an 3' ethernet cable, no matter how spiffy, is a little much.
-
actually, no it's not. Where are you finding it much cheaper than that?
-
For 3'? We just bought a 7' at the bookstore for $3. Granted, the cable was a non-grey color and had niffty looking . . . things on the end.
EDIT: Uh, the Radio Shack cable was blue and spiffy looking
-
was it an evil bookstore? a school bookstore? tell me more of this magic bookstore where expensive things become inexpensive.
-
I couldn't listen to the radio in my office even when I had an office (back in Chicago). Now I'm in cubicle city. Sans radio. I bring cds and usually listen to them on my battery-powered cd player, but my computer has a cd player so it seems silly to pay for batteries.
-
See in Utah the cost of living is not as high as some other parts of the country, though it is going up. Therefore the stores don't pay their employees as much, so they don't have to mark up their prices as much. Course, most managers around herewouldn't pay their employees more, yet still mark up prices, no matter how high the cost of living got.
-
stacer, I'm serious, email me your address and I'll send you some.
Jeffe, it's the BYU bookstore.
-
Can't you buy it really cheaply by-the-foot at home improvement stores? You might have to attach the ends yourself, but it's not that hard.
-
MoD--thanks, will do that when I get some time. Have been really busy at work lately, really tired (coming down with a cold, it's been exhausting). So haven't had it at the top of my list the last couple days.
-
You know how to attach the ends?
-
Spirg and Tage have both told me it's not too difficult.
-
That's nice, but doesn't help any of us a whole lot.
-
I'm sure stacer could find someone who can do it for her. Lots of technical people are hiding all over the place.
-
However, stacer wants an extension cord for her headphones, not an ethernet cable.
-
just as easy. Soldering is helpful, but not required.
-
I'm confused. I thought the extensions were just something you plugged your headphones into. If it's any more mechanical than that, I have the ability but not the desire to do it. Maybe I'll just go buy a new set of headphones with a longer cord.
-
Don't be confused. EUOL is just talking about saving money by buying hte cord and attaching the ends. With the bother involved, it doesn't save a lot once you take into account the labor. You can get cables that extend the reach without requiring more than "plug in" work.
Essentially, we're just being very male, sort of a "WHen the girls get here, we'll talk about integrated circuits and things to show them how smart we are."
-
Right, same thing with phone jacks (sometimes). I needed one in my room so I could connect to the net, so I took one apart from downstairs, brought it upstairs, connect the certain colored wires to the other colored ones, and bada-ding, I've got a phone jack. Wires aren't all that hard, and soldering is fun, as long as you don't burn yourself.
-
Essentially, we're just being very male, sort of a "WHen the girls get here, we'll talk about integrated circuits and things to show them how smart we are."
Actually, I was just harping on a personal little annoyance of mine--the expense of cords. When we moved into the new house, I was faced with spending some thirty bucks to get an ethernet cord long enough to reach my room. Then I realized you could buy them for like $.25 a foot at home depot. Now, whenever someone mentions how expensive they are, I point out this little fact. It could potentially save someone a lot of money.
Anyway, saw "Big Fish," and generally agree. This was a great movie.
-
When the girls get here, we'll talk about integrated circuits and things to show them how smart we are
Let's do our little funky dance, too, and show them how cool we are.
-
We'll get out our guitars, and tell them how we're gonna be stars.
We'll set our hair on fire... uh...
-
We'll wear berets and dark glasses!
-
We'll spill on our T-shirts (accidentally)
We'll show them what kind of guys we are.
-
Ok, I got all confused thinking I was in the Music forum.
-
Hello humanity, how are you doing? Good? Thats good to hear. Well, have you heard the news? You've hit a new low. Meet your maker, SaintEhlers.

*stares a Gemm*
Look, I know it's Friday and I'm tired, but if the discussions on this message board get any more surreal I"m going to expect to see fish coming out of the moniter at me.
-
Well, I guess this Friday person can't handle the humorous. But whatever, I guess we'll just stitch them up.
-
So we probably should have moved that last little bit to "cool lyrics," but it is friday, and I'm feeling indulgent...
And all of the guys that we know will be so envious of our charm and out wit.
But we don't need them - we've got lots of good friends - and we know that the real fun begins...
When the girls get here!
-
Hey guys, the girls are here.
-
And we're shaking our heads.
-
And watching them burn.
-
the girls?
-
My husband and I are going to go see this movie tomorrow. I wanted to see it anyway, but now I have a nice incentive. My parents called me today and my dad said that they'd seen the movie yesterday and really liked it. Then he told me I'd probably be interested in the movie from an oral history perspective as well as for the entertainment value (I'm doing a folklore project for my master's thesis), so, because it's "Academic" for me, my dad will pay for Chris and I to go see the movie.
My dad is pretty cool. :)
-
That is very cool. But from what I've heard, your dad has always been cool.
-
That is way cool. I can't wait until it comes to the dollar theatre.
Fuzzy, did you and J.T. ever get to see ROTK?
-
Yes, we saw it over Christmas like I kept saying we would.
-
MoD, you're great! I should find a Mrs. Fields cookie certificate for you. I got the extension in the mail yesterday and am currently listening to music on my computer at work, not wasting batteries!
By the way, you were right on my last name the first time, when you were saying it didn't sound right. Whitman. ;D Not Whitmire.
-
ARGH!!!
I swear I was sitting (well, standing) in the Post Office on Friday (which is when I sent it, so the Post Office is faster than I thought), thinking to myself "Whitman", and of course I write "Whitmire" because that's the last name of one of my co-workers. ::)
I'm glad you got it. :) Sorry about the length . . . 8' was the shortest they had.
