Title: Ctl-Alt-Del
Post by: fuzzyoctopus on May 15, 2004, 09:15:55 PM
Ok, I don't know if you've done a review of this.  I did a search, but there doesn't seem to be an archives list for the webcomic reviews.  (WHY isn't there one?)

I read Ctl-Alt-Del pretty regularly, and I want to know the story behind the Chef Brian strips that randomly appear.  I like them, more than the regular strips actually, but I feel like I'm not quite *getting* it.

I blame Gemm.

It's a fairly good webcomic.  I mean to get around to it eventually, but the level of swearing has put me off.

I love Control Alt Delete, but it is not as good as say PA. Probably a 4 clock comic.

So the answer is, no one else knows why either.

the answer is that Chef Brian is some weird hybrid of Dada and randomness, with occassionaly glimpses at what inspires the next words.

The reason he does it is much the same. It's just random. looking for a reason is why you don't get it.

I think Chef Brian is the embodiment of every persons desire to ramble...and make no sense at some point or another in their lives  :P

It all begins with cheese. Just like everything begins with cheese.
Next, add the chainsaw, you don't need it, but it's more fun that way.
Of course, if the Jell-o goes mouldy, the whole things needs to be set aflame.

I refuse to read it on account of people suggesting it is better than PA. To these people: Your Wang fu is weak. CAD lacks wang; Penny Arcade has the wang of three lesser webcomics.

PA is a black pornstar? I very much doubt that, sir.

which, as I've suggested before, is a pretty stupid and close-minded reason to do anything.

Don't forget immature...
I don't think you can compare the two in quite that way because NO ONE is going to do the sense of humor that PA has, and it ends up being like saying you're never going to watch the Marx Brothers because you've people say that they're funnier than George Carlin.

Here is some irnoy. I just found this web comic by doing some gaming research. I read it, thought it was very funny, and thought to myself I should talk about it here since it embodies so much video game antics much like order of the stick does for paper RPGs. Much to my surprise here it is right on the front page of this section. I guess I'll just be buggered. The only thing I can't stand about this comic (mind you, I won't stop reading it for it though) is the 1337 speak (Stands for Elite Soeak for those of you who are as unknowlegdeable as I was for a few days when reading this comic). That syntax just makes me crazy. But that in itself is another topic.

they actually don't use l33t speak very often. ANd it's spelled "elite"

In several years of moderately active gaming, i've never seen anyone use 1337 speak ingame. Usually its used as a bad IRC joke. Of course i've never really gone played the quake series online a lot. But certainly CS never had it.

You know SE, it isn't very polite to correct the Captain and point out his spelling mistakes :P I missed that. Thanks man.

Hey...does Chef Brian remind anyone else of Noodle Boy?  And Stick Guy Dom?  The whole random element seems to be a requirement of comics...or something.  Perhaps it's just to exercise the synapses and test the writer's skill at randomness....cos it's not always that easy.

I'm not sure who Noodle boy is. But Chef Brian comics are much much funnier than shirt-guy Dom.

Shirt guy Dom, right...nerrr....Happy Noodle Boy....Johnny the Homicdal Maniac draws him...and he is highly random.

Yes, Shirt guy Dom often bores me....Chef Brian is acutely champion.

Shirt guy Dom is much more like Sluggy's Shirt Guy Tom (and not unlikely a rip off in concept).

SGD was funny the first few times it poped up, but after that it got old, just like most of Mega Tokyo.

You know your appreciation of Chef Brian has gone too far when you can't say "Ever wondered why new socks taste so fresh? It all begins with cheese...just like everything begins with cheese..." straight-faced, even after reading or reciting it about a hundred times.

Yeah yeah, I'm thinking about that therapy you mentioned  ::)

I should say 'It all begins with cheese' more often...maybe it can replace some of my random Zim quotes...that bugs peopel to no end *squee*

I have to say that CAD is my favorite web comic out there.  PA is good, and Applegeek is another good one, but the do not match the humor of CAD

I find PA to be hysterical more often than CAD is funny :)

PA is consistently funny, but I *like* CAD. Because I *like* the characters. Gabe and Tycho are just jerks. PA just hasn't gotten me attached to it like that. Forced to choose one on a desert island, I'm thinking I'd pick CAD.

Good point
CAD's cast feels like people I know...
I don't know how many times Ethan or Micha has done something and I dont immediatly relate it to something I have done or seen a friend do
See Ethan's daydreaming about killing his CS Fan coworker or Micha's treatment of customers at work.

It's alot like RealLife comics... another that I relate to very well

PA is more of what I knew in my drunken crazed past... CAD and RL are what I see now
