Not during brood time though....

In brood time the Cicadas get LOUD!

But still they're pretty cool.

This brood is going to be interesting because of the housing boom in NOVA a lot of woodlands (the area where Cicada grubs are dormant) are gone, or paved over. Even so the explosion of life is supposed to be HUGE.

So Im kind of looking forward to it.

Those were around in some small numbers in Nebraska.  But they are litterly everywhere in Japan (cicada=Semi).  I've been in areas where it was so lound that I couldn't hear the person that was standing about 5 feet away from me.  But I actualy enjoy the Cicada's sound.  And do miss them.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

I quite like cicadas personally, though if they were that big...  Over here in Australia, at places like Mount Warning there can be enough of them, and their sound so loud you have to physically cover your ears.

One thing we used to do, and still occaisionally do is to get cicada shells, spray them silver and gold and put them on the christmas tree.  Looks great.

That's right--your seasons are flipped to ours. It's going cold on you right about now, isn't it?

Actually, exactly right. Yesterday was the first day cold enough for me to close my window and put on warmer clothes. It gets a lot colder than that, but I just acclimatised myself to tropical Queensland, so normal weather is disturbingly cold.

Yes, I love the psyco weather which drives me insane.  I wish it would just stay cold.  That would make me happy...

I've documented at least six cicada sightings. three of which were by me. Plus a head which I THINK was a cicada but I didn't investigate. So, they're here. THey're coming out. oh joy of joys.
