They're huge, and gross. Worse than June bugs. We get them in the Midwest, too.

But are they any type of threat? Or just problems?

Heh, and I've always liked cicadas. I used to collect their shells for fun, many years ago.

not dangerous no. Just big and .. icky. They're clumsy and ALL OVER. There's an article up on a co-workers wall about how one guy harvested a ton of them last time and has been keeping them in the freezer, eating 'em ever since. Gross, but when you think about it, not much different than lobster.

Heh, I'm glad I live in California...I would be freaked out if I saw one of those things. Hehe, the guy eating them is pretty gross...also, how big are they? Like, normal bug size, super bug size, or "Holy Biscuit that bug is abnormal, it must have been exposed to radiation!" size...

They tend to vary in size. But can range from, "Wow, that there is a big bug," to "WTButt! Where did that thing come from! AUgh! Kill it! EWWW!"

Sometimes you need a shotgun to bring them down. Actually, if your resolution is 1600x1200, the picture is just slightly larger than actual size. They're big, but small enough to fit in your mouth if you're awkward. They're crappy fliers and bump into everything, so flying into your mouth would not be unheard of.

Here we have a japaneese beetle problem, they are like ladybugs except orange and emit a horrinble smell when vacuumed, burned or flushed down the potty...

One of the things I miss about living out East is that, out here, you don't get to listen to the cicadas do their rattling thing on hot summer nights.  I grew up with it, and it's just a part of summer.

Yes, they are horrifically nasty-looking.  Which is why I just like the sound.
