The second book is actually named MISTBORN: THE WELL OF ASCENSION

Book three, then, is MISTBORN: THE HERO OF AGES

in that case, you might want to change the front page of the site:

  ;)

It was wonderful!

I can't wait for MB2.

what's MB2 titled again?

I can see by the progress bars on the main page that MB3 is "well of ascension", but i've been looking around for a title of MB2, and can't seem to find it.

Anyway, i've been telling all my friends about MB

we'll see him again soon, though, right?

a character like him in another book?

(a bit off topic, but not enough to bother making a new thread: i bought the book, and converted three people to fandom!)  ;D

My favorite plotline was Raoden's.

say what you will about dynamic characters, but to me, dynamic societies are much more fun to watch.

watching raoden turn the uber-leper colony Elantris from an trisomy of tyrannical dictatorships into one cohesive society was more interesting than watching hrathen do his little soul-searching/ 'find your self' schindig

It seems that the sales seem to be driven by word-of-mouth recomendations.

before i read the post at www.silklantern.com describing how good the book was, i had no idea it even existed.  besides Card's statement, there was very little else to set it apart for the bookstore browser.

it would be best to capitalize on the word-of-mouth crowd, and start encouraging the fans to post reccomendations on the blogs, forums, book clubs, and whatever else they are a part of.

And as long as you're doing personal appearances, poke your head in the local university doors:  set up a date with a few English/Literature professors to do a short seminar.

there's no audience like an audience that has to listen to you for two hours or get marked down for it.

in the higher level courses (where there is a better chance that they like to write, and not just want an easy major) you should set up the seminars to something like "Your Voice Heard: How to get your books published"  that should get them to attend.

if you bring a stack of books with you, and offer to sell them discount (and signed!) after the seminar, you'll undoubtedly get more fans.  the important part is not that you get a room full of college kids buying your book, it's that you get a room full of sci-fi/fantasy fans telling all their online friends about your book.  as far as the seminars are concerned, you're not selling books:  you're winning converts.

truthfully, i have no idea how much royalties are (not being a writer myself  :P )

i suppose that 10% puts about $2 in his pocket.

anyway, for introductions: i'm 18 years old, and will soon be enrolled at Illinios Institiue  of Technology (in Chicago) as a Comp. Science major.  I currently live in northern New Jersey.  I also have a part time job at the local library (incidentally, that's where i am typing this from: it's been a really slow day  :P )

why couldn't you have kept him?

i loved the contrast betwen the absolutely off-the-wall Eton and Hrathen.

the book does more then well enough without him, but it's certainly entertaining to see someone so truely bizarre in this setting.

i hope to see that character again in another book, he's fun to watch.

Brandon Sanderson / Fun idea for your second read (or third, fourth...
« on: August 12, 2005, 04:41:01 AM »
I just finished the book the second time, and instead of reading it straight through, i did something interesting:  i only read Raoden's chapters (or Sarene's chapters with Raoden in them) from start to finish.

then i did the same thing for the other characters: read everything that is either from that character's POV, or has that character in it.

It was a great deal of fun, because i knew (from my first read) what was going on, but seeing everything unravel as one of the thee saw it (that is to say: ignorant of the other's plans) was incredible.

you really get a much better look at the chapters, especially the ones involving the Widow's Trial, that way.

Does anyone have any more tips for wringing every last drop of enjoyment out of the book while we wait for another to fall our way?

(by the way, this is my first post here, and i just wanted to say: i heard about the book from the forums of another fantasy series i read (the Wheel of Time) and i took the time out of my busy wrkload at the library to pull it off the shelf.  I immediately took it home, and finished at about 6:00 the next morning (a quite common occourence for a fantasty lover like me)  but have no fear:  this saturday, i'll be stopping by at borders, and you'll be recieving your 2 cent royalty check from me in no time  :)  )
