Brandon Sanderson / Re: New Q&A! (But Warbreaker only)
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:25:41 AM »
Excellent answers!  I didn't figure he'd go into as much detail about the Cosmere in my question, since I was asking more about personal inspirations, but I'm glad he took the time to give that little nugget of info out.

Thanks Brandon for answering for us!  And thanks Peter for keeping us posted about the thread over there!

You know, I think I've decided to go to GenCon cosplaying a random Mistborn...

I can't wait to see this sitting on my bookshelf.  But that will have to wait until after it's been in my hands for several hours.

Though, there is no name for any Shard other than Ruin, Preservation, or Endowment.

At least none that we, the general readers, have been told.  I'm sure Brandon has them all named =P

I love it, Mking!

I'm glad it's not a scene straight from the book though... if an Inquisitor got that close to Vin that early on, there would have been no story, haha, unless we were going to read about Vin's corpse for a few hundred pages.

I seem to recall Brandon saying somewhere that Elantris was a 4 draft book.  I think he was saying it as a comparison to the 16/17 drafts of tGS he did, and how big the project, which looked huge from the onset, was beginning to get.

And...

I'm determined to believe some authors throw a bunch of cut up words at a page, glue them down and publish it without any revision what so ever.  (i.e. Paolini.) xD

/agree.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: A question for Brandon...about Gen-Con this year!

That's sad... thanks Peter!  So when is our boy going to make it to Indiana?  Haha...

Well, going to see Howard would probably be worthwhile.  I wouldn't ask him to doodle in one of Brandon's books, but I'd have to order a Schlock book, because I would appreciate a customization from him as well, haha.

I have been pondering whether to go or not.  Indy is my backyard, but when you go every year, it kinda fizzles out a bit as far as the scale of awesomeness goes.  It's been a year or two since I've been there, but if Brandon is going this year, I will totally make it a priority, haha.

You have been iSumilated.

I'm someone that avoids using internet abbreviations when possible, yet I still feel that the only valid response to this is 'ROFL'

Kaz, I fear you are making a child of yourself.  You may be right that your knowledge comes on good authority, but when you snap at someone for stating a different opinion you don't do any good to anyone, just create harsh feelings and closed-mindedness.  No matter how correct you are or how incorrect someone else is, please keep that in mind.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if human life hadn't been created somewhere while Adonalsium was still whole.  You know, since that would make the human form as the form of choice for Shard creations make more sense.

I was on Joe Haldeman's forum recent(he is a GREAT Sci-fi writer) and he posted that he hopes Ridley Scott(he made gladiator and the first alien movie) will move forward with making The Forever War after seeing how great avatar was.

You forgot Blade Runner!  Dude, that's like... his best!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: questions about brandon

From what I gathered, this one is requiring much more thought on pacing and even content than TGS did, just by the nature of what plot lines are left to cover before Tarmon Gai'don.  Mr. Sanderson doesn't want it to feel like, I believe his words were, "Everything that didn't fit into TGS." or something along those lines.  I'm sure when it's not your world you're writing in, when you're trying really hard to make things fit into the allotted number of books, when the series is so dang big as it is, and when he is taking the criticisms of TGS into account on this novel, that it's serving to require more time.

That said, if ToM is as cool as TGS was, I don't care if it takes him 2 years.  Besides, we've waited longer than that for some of the Robert Jordan installments in the series, right?
