Ecstatic things go here.
« on: September 29, 2005, 05:32:13 PM »
My fans will remember about 15 months ago Jeffe passed on his old PC laptop to me.
shortly after WorldCon, it died. Battery draining hyper fast, no AC power working. I had it written off

This was very sad.

However, I noticed a very similar symptom on a laptop here at work
Switching power adapters got it running.

So I brought my laptop in and tried it on the adapters

Guess who's battery is charging *as we speak*!

Yeah, I notice that my AC cord must have a short in it. It's actually been that way since a few months after buying it, but I've been able to wiggle it and make it work. Now it's getting worse, and my battery only has about 15 minutes of capacity anymore, so I'm thinking it's time to start looking at new computers. But laptops are expensive, and I don't really want a desktop. I like being able to use it while lounging on the couch watching TV. Multitasking laziness.

Why is this such an ecstatic thing, e?

Because I've been dealing with sub-standard smoothies for the last three plus years.

Btw, you ever gonna check out the meeting coordination thread in Writer's Group?

Yeah, I'm getting to it.  =þ

Sorry, been busy.  I'll take a look.

At any rate, Ari makes pretty good milkshakes (which she calls smoothies), so I'm okay in the smoothie department...

But Ari's baptism deserves to go in this thread, anyways.

There were a lot of people there, and half of them were crying.

I feel this is worthy of the Ecstatic Things thread!

Some of you may remember awhile back that I mentioned I was interviewing with the Church Magazines for an Internship. I wondered if I even should, considering my health at the time. I decided to do it anyway. During the interview, they asked when I would be available, and knowing I needed to take a semester off I said in Spring or Fall (they take on new interns every 4 months).

Well, I got the Internship!!! In May I am to report to the Church Office Building for my 4 month internship with the Friend. Yay! It's a full-time, paid position--$10.50 an hour, which is much better than my last few jobs (and really good for an internship, which are often unpaid). I wasn't sure if having to defer for a semester would affect my ability to do the internship, but I've spoken with the Internship Coordinator, and it doesn't, so in May I'll be back in Utah--but living in Salt Lake.

I don't know what happens after that, but this internship is going to be a very exciting opportunity for me. It's also good because it gives me a goal and something to look forward to. Now I just need to take good care of myself and save up money for the next few months to get back on my feet again.

That's fabulous news! Congratulations!  Those internships are not easy to get from what I've heard.

Congratulations! 10.50 an hour is amazing for a student job or internship in Utah--you can actually live on it, in general, though of course you won't live the high life.

I think that's a great start, though. It'll be really good experience and open a lot of doors for you.

You can live on ALOT less than that in Utah, especially since her internship is full time.

True, especially if you don't have student loans to deal with, or car payments. I certainly never worked for that much full time and got around fairly well, as well as usually being able to make ends meet.

Hurray! That's so wonderful when stuff works out like that. Now you have something really great to look forward to after you get feeling better! I'm so happy for ya. :D
