So CNN is reporting that Scotty (James Doohan) has Alzheimers.

That's kind of sad, yet I'm relieved that it means he won't be making cameos or going to cons eventually. He really needs to just retire.
-
actually that's really sad. I'm just personalizing it though. My grandfather is exactly the same age and suffering the exact same symptoms. When we went out for my brother's birthday, we had to tell him about 6 times that day why we were getting ready to go. But he knew all the stories about my grandma's childhood and their early marriage.
Sad.
What's weird though, Scotty has a FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD?!

Record those stories now if you haven't already. Bring a tape player the next time you see him, etc.
-
I don't think I *will* see him again. I dont' get to Utah very often.

:(
That's very sad.

You know, I realize more and more that Fell and I are completely devoid of feeling. Since our mom has had MS all our lives, and my grandpa had alzheimers for eight or nine years, we joke about it constantly. I never expected that anyone would say they were sad about this, but that's just me being callous, I guess.

Different people take things different ways. My mom is mentally ill, and I can't stand to watch movies about characters with mental illnesses because it's too close to home. I take that back. I mean *dramas* about the subject, because certain comedies, when sensitively done, can be great--like Benny and Joon.

James Doohan also has Parkinson's Disease and Diabetes. It's almost exactly like my grandmother. She has had Parkinson's Disease since God knows how long, and after only 2-3 years she is getting towards the late stages of Alzheimer's Disease. It's so hard to watch. My grandfather is going through hell: losing weight, not sleeping, etc. I can't imagine what it's like to watch someone with whom you've been married for 50 years or so go through something as awful as Alzheimers. Shudder.
My heart goes out to Mr. Doohan's wife... who's *47*??
;) Dirty old man... hehe. His wife's two years older than his son! They have a four-year-old. Wow.
As long as he keeps feeling young, and I'm sure a 4 year old daughter would help THAT...
