Brandon Sanderson / Re: A use for Aluminum

Haha, I really like the way you're thinking!  ;D
Not sure if this theory is plausible, but it is nice.  ;)

This doesn't really jive with the idea that Roshar has 3 shards, if Sazed was Cultivation, there would be 4 shards.
We are talking about gods here, who says shardholders can't talk to each other over long interstellar distances?  ;D

Unless, when someone gets 2 shards, they form 1?
That's what I was suggesting.  :)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Spren and the Almighty (SPOILERS-for Mistborn too)
« on: September 27, 2010, 08:45:02 PM »
My thoughts exactly when I listened to WoK, but I considered the theory to be too obvious to be worth posting.
Great minds think alike it seems. ;)

So, let's say we bind a spren to a gem or a surgebinder, then the spren acts as the mind, the stormlight as the power and the gem/human as its body...
Nope, no idea were I'm going with this. :|

What Never said. :p
I have a theory that "Cultivation" is the entity Sazed become (simply because that concept incorporates both Ruin and Preservation so well IMO) after becoming a "full" deity.

Brandon Sanderson / Favourite magic system so far? (Spoilers for ALL books)
« on: September 25, 2010, 05:24:16 PM »
I exclude the One power because that system of magic wasn't originally created by Brandon.
AonDor/Dor magic
Advantage
  • No material components necessary.
  • High availability.
  • Ranged attacks available for certain users
  • Permanent effects are easy to create.
  • Enhances physical aspects of the user.

Disadvantages
  • Even the most basic uses need practice.
  • For non-Elantrians, accessing the Dor is highly time and labour intensive.
  • Each effect has to be described in an abstract symbol-language.
  • Using the Dor the Elantrian way is bound to Elantris.
Allomancy
Advantages
Continue when home, feel free to add to and poke holes in my list

Suggestions Box / Re: So, uh... how do authors get subforms here?
« on: September 25, 2010, 04:45:23 PM »
Do they have to ask, or are they asked?  ;D

If i understand correctly, all of the authors are personal friends of the non-author owners/admins of the site, and were asked if they wanted their own section or something. I'm pretty sure it's all just authors from the BYU area, since its section is LOCAL authors.

Note: All of this could be quite wrong.
Oh... I see.  :-\

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon's Secret Project

George RR Martin fans have convinced him to try his hand at A Song of Ice and Fire, as they figure he can finish the entire series before Martin releases his next book.
YMMD. :D ;D

some thoughts

1. He is writing Twilight fan fiction
:D
Quote
2. He has decided to go dark. He is writing a dark, twisted fantasy novel that makes George RR Martin's books look like childrens literature
I would like that... very much, lol. >:D
Quote
3. He is serving as Peter Ahlstrom's assistant while he works on his first book.

Laughed HARD at that one.
Quote
4. He is writing an essay about how he is not a fantasy writer
Considring the speed with which he writes books, an essay would be finished in no time.
Quote
5. He has taken a position in the Obama administration as the Czar of Fantasy writing. His first act is to waterboard Terry Goodkind.
Hehe, noone seems to like him, and WOTmaniacs least of all.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:09:54 AM »
Yea, I'm a WoT-fan (there never was a good name for us, meh  :-\) and when I saw Warbreaker on manybooks.net, I downloaded it.
I'm not sure when I started reading Mistborn, before, during or after Warbreaker (maybe I was abour an alien ship during that time).

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Rights For Spren!!!! (minor spoilers)
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:59:18 AM »
Preposterous! Abuse? It is no fault of ours if spren are attracted to our property. This argument is a slippery slope. What's next? Do we close down windmills* because they rely on windspren to function? Discourage the experience and expression of emotion because emotions attract fearspren or gloryspren? Ban the sale of alcoholic beverages to stop the oppression of drunkspren?

There is no evidence to suggest spren are imprisoned in fabriels against their will. If they are attracted to certain gems, there must be some benefit or profit they hope to receive. Indeed, it may be that the spren that are "imprisoned" are the spren who were fortunate enough to gain exclusive access to the gem.

I move for this petition to be dismissed as frivolous and unnecessary.

I must concur!
As we have seen spren are "bound" *rolls his eyes in disdain and flashes a quick, mocking smile towards the assembly* simply by observing them.
In fact, I would go so far and say that they benefit from our attentions, and that more funding for the artefabrian community is necessary.

A screenplay that descibes  humanity in the the days before the breaking of Adonalsium. :D
I just noticed that "Adonalsium" isn't a word the spell-checker on this PC know, hahaha.  :D

Brandon Sanderson / The value of spheres in WoK (no spoilers)
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:07:51 AM »
How much can I buy for an emerald sphere?
We often hear that it's a lot of money for a darkeyes , but how much is never said.
Maybe we'll be able to calculate the value of a gemheart after that (and since we know the pay of bridgemen and soldiers, the approximate gain for a high prince that leads a successful run   :o)
