Um, I'm stuck at a wedding reception for my older brother on that night. So let's move the party there since there will be food. Springville Art Museum, 7-9.

What, you want we should all bring our Magic decks to the wedding reception of people we don't know?

I like it!

I think if you can come in from Virginia, I can manage to come in from Logan. I'd be up for Magic, board games, enormous Heroclix battles, and just about anything else we can cook up.

I'm just wondering how JP and Entropy will get here since it's "international",  Maybe it should be intercontinental?

everyone is responsible for their own transportation. if you can't catch the bus across the ocean, well, I can't be held responsible for that.

Do you think I've limited the scope too much? Should it be the Interplanetary TWG Gaming night?

I've never played clix, but everything else is good. even a small game of clix to give me a feel for it would be fun.

We did a casual clix game back in December that went over surprisingly well--out of the six people involved, I was the only one with any prior experience, yet the game moved pretty quickly and people had fun playing with superhero toys (of course--who wouldn't?).

I'm good for May 29th.  I'd have posted it on that thread, but apparently the TWGCPIW (TWG Committee for the Persecution of Idol Worship) locked it down.

I think I'm good for the 25th also.  'Twill be good to see the Saint again.

You wouldn't think it would be the Idol who opposes Idol worship, but that's Tage for you. Speaking of which, big points to anyone who calls Fox and votes for Tage on American Idol. But you have to show some kind of physical proof.

Probably not going to happen this time, but once my writer career takes off (and hopefully it does....) I can definitely see some trips to the UK/Aus for Worldcons.  They'll just have to be patient for a few years.

If they're really nice, I'll take them to the SFWA party.  Then they can see their favorite authors drunk.

I'm still uncertain about that one, Sprig.  I didn't realize you were planning one that soon--I was talking about when Eric came out.

If it's this week, I might not be able to do anything.  On Saturday I have my writing group.  (Usually Fridays, but it changed this week.)

May 29th I'll be in town, and then June 25th SE will be in town. I see no reason not to throw a party both times (though the party for me will, of course, be bigger and more meaningful).

I was thinking the 29th of this month.  The reason I posted in this thread and not the other is becasue Tage killed the other thread.  We could do it both times, or only in June, which ever is fine with me.

Ouch. Too bad.

Well I don't know if enough people are interested, but I'll be preparing a Magic deck for an Emporer game, in case enough (six total) people feel like doing the same.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/aa99

Is a good article on the Emperor format.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/aa100

This one too. I'm building for Lieutenant. If anyone else is interested, I'll let them pick the deck type. (100/3 or standard Constructed)

Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Prometheus on May 26, 2004, 12:55:29 AM
I'll give it a try then...

1. It's a true team format. Quite apart from the semi-team format offered at Prereleases, Emperor games requires cooperation among an actual team that can work together during an acutal game. This adds entirely new dynamics to the game, in which you have a vested, lasting interest in members of the game that are not yourself. In free-for-all games, you at times might aid another player, but only as it is expedient at the time to serve your own efforts. In emperor, the lieutenants have actual interest in defending their Emperor first and secondly each other, if they have the means to do so. I think that's exciting. One thing I really like about this is that instants, especially combat instants, grow in utility, as the number of combats you are likely to use them during expand to two for each player.

2. The rules of the game change. The rules set that I favor the most currently is that all players can target two steps away, attack with creatures one step away, and that global effects remain global. Decks must be built differently, with these considerations in mind. The Emperor, in particular, can't even hit their goal target when the game begins.

3. We haven't tried it yet. This argument is more of a synergy of the other two, so I may be cheating. However, the Emperor format offers a whole new range of considerations both inside and outside of the game that would make for a much different experience than the one that we're used to, and to varying degrees, have all gotten tired of. From team formation to deckbuilding to the actual gameplay, it would be something new. Much like the 10-card format we tried for a while, it should be enjoyable and bring the whole game a new perspective.

Post by: Lieutenant Kije on May 26, 2004, 01:40:37 AM
I'm not so interested in a MtG fest.  I'm not saying it shouldn't happen, but I'd like it if something else was going on at the same time (clix, tabletop, board game, etc.)
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Prometheus on May 26, 2004, 01:49:16 AM
I was thinking that having other activities was the plan. I'm not trying to preempt that at all...just trying to get some folks to try out Emperor with me, as I've wanted to do that for a while (But it takes six people. Kinda hard.)

If anyone is interested, I can probably borrow my brother's episodes of RahXephon again. It's an anime that I hadn't heard of before he started getting it, but I've found it really enjoyable. And, if Magic the Gathering draws little interest, I'd be up for a game of History of the World (as if we had enough time for it) or some other sort of random silliness...maybe even a D&D brawl.
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Fellfrosch on May 26, 2004, 02:23:06 AM
Well, you convinced me that it would be fun to try, but I don't know if this weekend is the time to do it. I'll bring my decks, but this might work better in June when SE's in town.

I never intended to override the party or anything. I had heard that Magic was one of the possibilities, though, and I thought I'd see how much support there would be for a trial of Emperor Magic. That can wait until the 25th if need be, though.

(Not that I won't still be bringing decks/trades, and if other people happen to have brought theirs as well and want to play after we've done Heroclix ect...well I can't be held responsible for that.)
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night

speakign of trades, let me know if you're looking for something (sadly, I do not have NEW cards) and I'll try to bring those which I have. I will *not* be bringing my whole collection, as I have to live for a week out there. Also, let me know of "cool things" (defined in the barter thread) that you think I might want, and I'll try to bring something to barter for them.
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Prometheus on May 26, 2004, 11:57:26 AM
We probably better scoot that segment over to the CCG bartering thread. Sadly, I didn't bring my rares with me, so I won't be able to add much to my previously-made list of things I have for trade for a little bit.

Sorry Prom - I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought you were forcing MtG on the party.  I think it's cool if you get an emperor game or something going, and I'll bring a 100:3 deck in case that's what everyone wants to do.  I just wanted to say that it would be cool if there were other options too.

It seems like a Heroclix game is foremost on people's minds, so I'll work up a simple scenario and maybe a hadful of teams--anyone who has their own figs is free to bring a play a team, but everyone else is free to use whatever silly theme teams sound fun to them. Do you guys want a free-for-all or a couple of player alliances? EUOL's already spoken for his figs, but does anyone else ahve any requests? I'm thinking that maybe a group of people playing the JLA could be fun, but I'm open to anything. Ideas are welcome.

Do you have enough SHIELD to make me a 'good' army? (I don't care if I get creamed. I just want to try a pack of little guys out. I'd probably need some Leadership ect. to pull it off) If not SHIELD, then HYDRA or something would work too.

And free for all sounds fun.  But again, whatever.

The only thing I'm positive about at this point is June 25. You guys tell me where to be. I'll try to get you a time frame as soon as I can.

If we go for many hours, people who have to go to appointments, like 42, won't miss out on the fun just because of inconvenient timing.

I know you said you weren't talking about games, but I hope it'll be a long play-session. I'm hoping to play several different games. I'd like to try Emperor, and I'm willing to be converted to Clix, which I've never played (and hope not to every choose to buy). I'm also up for board games. A one shot RP session is probably asking too much.
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Prometheus on May 27, 2004, 01:48:48 PM
When I suggested a one-shot RP session, I was thinking more something along the lines of a battle-fest. Bring some characters pre-made and bash heads together. That'd take a while too, but it's more doable.

You could run a normal adventure too (for 2-3 hours at least) just require people create their characters before hand so you don't have to spend all that time doing so.

May 29: I will be arriving at Tage and EUOL's house around 11:30 or 12. Nate and Ady will be with me, as will my family, though they're only staying for lunch and not the games. We have our own meat for the barbecue.

I assume we're using Micah's charcoal grill? Do you already have charcoal for it? Will it be heated up and ready to cook on at noon? Or do I need to come up there early and bust some heads?

I can stay until around 5 or 6 that night, which should give us plenty of time to play a Heroclix game and then some--maybe two, so we can start a new one at 3 when 42 shows up with his uniques to kill us. I'll put together an army of SHIELD people for Prometheus (does Captain America as leader sound good? I don't have a Nick Fury, unfortunately); and we can certainly arrange a random army selection process for Kije.

Also note that I've built several Magic decks, so if there's a spare moment here or there I'd love to play someone.
Title: Re: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Prometheus on May 27, 2004, 06:35:13 PM
I normally have an aversion to Captain America, but he'll do for this purpose. If nothing else, I can wander over to 42's Hellboy and annoy him into killing ol' Cap. It's not like I'm exactly looking to dominate the field with SHIELD agents.

Okay, for Saturday, my editor emailed me today and suggested that I go to Conduit--the Salt Lake SF con.  He seems to think that it is important that I begin to establish a presence in the local SF community.  The con runs from 8-4 on Saturday, so I might end up going to it for part of the day.  I really want to see if I can track Dave down and see if--now that I've followed his other advice and gotten myself published--he has anything interesting to tell me.

It's not set yet, but Moshe has a pretty good point.  I'd miss the BBQ for sure, but I could try and be back for the games.  We'll see.  Career trumps playing, I'm afraid.  Another option would be to go up tommorow, but I don't know if Dave is going to be there Friday, and I'm sure he'll be there Saturday.

I can get there around 7, 7:30, and will probably stay the night (since I don't want to drive two hours home at whatever in the morning).

I know there's room at Tage/Euol's place but I'm just letting those that would be staying the night that we have a couch with a hide-a-bed (it's a Lazy boy even) that someone could use if they want.

I'll come prepared with multiple 300 point teams for the 25th; that way, anyone who has their own team can use it, and anyone else who doesn't have figs can grab one of mine and use that. Whether we play teams or free-for-all we can decide later.

If you intend to use one of my teams, and you want a specific character or theme, let me know.

I'm assumeing that you're going to be bringing all your figs?  I might want to use a single, but I don't know what I'll be getting in my unleased boosters I haven't gotten yet.

Wherever you hold the party, I can bring by wedding food left overs at about 10:00 if people are interested. Stuff like creme puffs or cheese and crackers.

Also would 7:30-8:00 be too late to do the BBQ?

I liked the SHIELD team I had last time, but it's probably best that I not have quite that many. The SWAT Elite guys with 1 damage and ranged combat expert worked really well, but I probably better take an actual fig along with them, other than Kingpin.

Once this is totally and definitely decided, can we have an official posting?  A "The party will be at 123 Castle Street and start at 13 o'clock."  ?

yeah, it sounds like the main show is starting at 7ish. WHERE. who can volunteer a location? And, for those who can meet earlier than 7, i'm all for that too.

Unless they complaine it's at EUOL and Tage's since thats where we alwayse have these things.  As for time, well that's up to them but since Fell wont be there till 7ish I cannot see them doing anything before 6-6:30pm.  If that's the case then you probaly can come to mine and 42's.

So main game at the EUOL/Tage pad ~7:00. That's what i'll plan on then. Someone email me an address for that.

Now, Sprig, do you mean you want to play earlier than that at your place? If so, what time are you up for starting to play?

I'm not personaly wanting to play anything, I'm just offering my place for use if anyone wants to get togethor before then.  Also since I live with 42 and promethious they'll more then like be around that afternoon, 42 dosen't leave for his brothers reception until 6ish I beleave.  And promethious would be home around 4:30-5ish.

not many people sound available before 4:30ish. I'm going to show up at Sprig's house round about 4:30 then. i'm emailing Sprig my g-ma's phone number. It won't be good ALL week, but it will for a few days. Call if that plan should change.

Games People Play have offered to let us come and play against their Galactius (heroclix).  The mall doors close at 9:30pm but they'll be open till 11:30 midnight.  If we want to go we can get there around 9pm and play for and hour or 2.  It could be realy cool.

sounds cool. I may even be tempted to buy something.

Incidentally, I'm at my wife's g-ma's house now. In Provo. If you need me, call eight-oh-one, three-seven-four, six-six-six-one.

I'm not in a lot, but you can leave a message for me.

Someone either give me Chris and Kristy's number or call them to let them know what's going on. I think they want to show. I don't think I'll be checking the  boards again till Sat. night and I haven't read any other thread so I'm still pretty uninformed. I'll see you tomorrow night.

Can I get an address for the "EUOL/Tage pad", since I've still never been there?

880 West, 1440 North in Orem.

Very easy to find.  Take State street north.  Turn west at 12th north.  Head down until you get to 800.  Turn right, head over to 1440.  There's a stake center behind if parking grows difficult, and you can walk from the church straight into our backyard (though you have to go through a little gate thing.)

My duaghter's birthday party got switched to tonight, so I'm out.  And my wife just called and said she dropped the cake on the floor, and it's ruined, so that's fun too.

it'll probably come out in Sprig's Clix article, but EUOL, Sprig, and Alan were playing "evil" characters (it was kind of a stretch in a few cases), and even before the teams were chosen out they were agreeing to fight together. So Kije, Fell, Prom, and I decided to fight back. Fell then started shooting at Kije's iron man, helping out the bad guys. By the end, however, Spidey and Arwyn started shooting at anything that moved.

Ya that was fun.  Heroclix realy is a great party game if you have the time for it.  We had 7 people on 2 maps and the game was over 3 hours long.  Poor Kije though, he chose Ironman who is EUOL and Allen's archenemy in real life so we ganged up on him.

Yeah, Alen and I feel bad about that.  Poor Kije.  Good thing he's a good sport.

My team was the only one with a mix of thematically good and evil people. I had to play them a little schizophrenically.
