I came up with a completely NEW plot idea. it's the most consistant idea i've got, so I'm running with it (and i have a complete outline, I just need to do details). But I need names, and Entropy isn't being helpful.

so, I need these names:
A young king who is dying from a curse
the name of his kingdom
the princess from the neighboring kingdom who is supposed to marry him for political reasons
The name of her home kingdom
the names of her parents

Everything else i'm more comfortable just winging.

go crazy, just try to give me stuff i cna use

Someone posted this link on the NaNo forums, and I think it's very cool. You ahve to do a bit of advance work, generating a "feel" for your language, but then you just plug it all in and the program gives you a bunch of very cool words suitable for names, places, and anything else you can think of:

oh, I've had lots of name generators, none of them gave stuff that appealed to me.

I also stopped hitting the nano forums, they were taking time up that I couldn't take away from actually WRITING my nano.

I feel the same way. I do like to post my current word count though.

Here are some names

King: Fester, Pewter, Pellinor (rip-off, but it's been trying to be used all day), Larry, Grog

Kingdom: Alitag, Ragnith, Uklan, Ventar

Princess: Isbeth (j/k), Kelath, Mysta, Gurenth, Fronella

Kingdom: (see above)

Mom: Bera, Calina, Treena

Dad: Pensad, Latink, Kenneth

Erk. See, the thing that most annoys me about fantasy is the stupid names.

In my latest attampt at Fantasy, I used the names Zachary and Edward. They fit the tone, and they're real names, not jumbles of letters. So try that. Try real names

The first part of my book deals with street rats, so I just gave them all nicknames rather than silly fantasy names. The main character is Bug.

the problem, JP, is they take place in different wrolds. THe culture's not the same, why would the names be the same?

For names, when I want realsitic ones, I goto MSN's baby page.  They've got a namer there that lets you choose male/female, what ethnic origin(s) you want the name from, how many sylables and what letters to start/end with.  For countries/cities I use AutoRealm which is a GNU mapmakeing software with name generators for city countries.  You can choose all sorts of options (includeing a Tolkin one).

All fantasy stories take place in different worlds. Why then, do they all have names that sound exactly the same? At least with real names you don't need to spend twenty minutes trying to figure out how to pronounce it.

ALright, who wants to write wedding vows for my story? eh? Eh? I know some of you girls have thought of this, even you Mormons who know that you never have to come up with such a thing. it's a fantasy, quasi-late-MEdieval, with a semi-monotheistic religion. Really more of a dualist religion, really. Any takers?

I never thought up my own wedding vows, but maybe I just never attended enough non-LDS weddings.

I'd like to help, but perhaps one of the ladies who isn't working on NaNo this year would be a better resource. Unless you're wife could give you some good ideas?
