Serenity - spoiler free impressions

Last night I was lucky enough to go to one of the pre-screenings of Serenity.

I'm still in a little bit of awe.  Them movie flat-out rocks!  Sure, I'm a huge Firefly fan so I might be biased, but this is one of the best movies I've seen in the last few years.  

I also think they did a good job of bringing those who haven't seen the series up to speed.  If you've watched the series you'll appreciate the movie all the more, but it certainly isn't a requirement...just a recommendation.

So you've got a little time until September 30.  My advice is to go out and watch the original series.  Even if you don't fall in love, Serenity is still chock full of sci-fi action with far fewer plot holes than either RotS or Batman Begins and you should still go see it.

Tage has the Firefly series on DVD at his and EUOL's house. I've been meaning to watch it, because I've heard so much about it from Tage and other avid fans. I guess I'll have to now. At least I have until Sept 30 to fit it into my busy schedule!

Maybe it's just as someone who:
1) never saw firefly

2) hates Buffy

But the trailer they've been showing has not made me want to see the movie, I'm sure they're highlighting things that fan-boys will like but it doesn't do anything for me.

I probably will go see just because everyone else out here will, but after Wonka the next must see movie for me is Corpse Bride.

Even if you hate Buffy it is worth the time to check out Firefly.  The themes and mood are completely different and Joss uses his gift with dialogue to turn western parlance on its head instead of hip valley-girl.

I like Buffy.  I love Angel.  Firefly surpasses them both in quality, characters, writing, and story.  

Give the series a chance, Sprig.  You may like what you find.

I relish every opportunity to express my malaise over Firefly. I watched most of the episodes, and just didn't like it all that much. The trailer has one good moment in it, but nothing that made me want to run out and watch the movie.

Yup, they announced it on the fan club.  Every city has sold out in under an hour.  Fortunately I've got a good friend with the hook-up. He's seen in two cities.  I would have done that if I could have.  It's awesome.

My feelings about Buffy/Angel are "meh" at best (I've watched a few episodes rather half-heartedly), but my husband and I both really enjoy Firefly.  I got him the DVDs for his birthday.  We find they hold up well under repeat viewing.

I liked Firefly except that one episode that we had to turn off halfway through (with the girl seducing the captain). I also did not like the prostitute lady.

There are a few things that I'm not comfortable with (there's one episode where Inara has a female client, which is just a bit much for me).  Definitely not the sort of thing you can just casually pop in with the kids around.
