Everything Else / Why Zhaan deserved to be in the crew
« on: October 15, 2002, 11:29:08 AM »
To ease the minds of the other voters, I shall now attempt to explain why Zhaan is the best choice for ship counselor/bartender. Basically, she can kick the crap out of the rest of the contenders. To illustrate this is how she would do it.

First, all of the male contenders would go down quickly as Zhaan seduces each of then and then breaks them apart with her bare hands, with the exception of two: Woody, who’s just ignorant, and Moe, who shows an unusual tolerance towards pain. Zhaan would take down Moe, and the thugs helping him, by sending out a cloud of poisonous spores the kill them all. She would then face Woody, who as we all know is a raging psychopath underneath that kind exterior. Zhaan calmness would eventually prevail against the tempest that is Woody.

This leaves the female contenders. Troi’s psychic abilities would quickly be overwhelmed by the intense psychic powers of Zhaan leaving Troi’s brain as nothing but the ashes from the writers early drafts. Then Zhaan would use her invibility powers to stalk down on Ezri, who would be having an emotional breakdown, and blow her away with a pulse rifle. Next is Guinan, whose age and wisdom matches Zhaan’s. Thus, it would come down to whom has the coolest outfits. While it may appear that Guinan has this match easily won, when you factor in Zhaan’s handicap for being BLUE, Zhaan comes out the victor.

This leaves Zhaan with her greatest challenger: Granny. Having developed immunity to Zhaan’s poison spores and toxic brews, being too stubborn to succumb to Zhaan’s psychic attacks, and having equal marksmanship, Granny is a fierce contender. But come on, who do you think the crew would rather have?

Scapers are quite fanatic at the moment, probably surpassing the insanity levels of Trekkies, and whatever you call Cheers and Simpson fans.

Why don't we program the computer to cut off the right hand of anyone who votes twice? ;D

I like that Tolkien focused the LotR around individuals and smaller roles in the war, rather than telling the larger story. The larger story is just too large to really grasp. Focusing on a small part gives it a human face.

What I'm worried about in the next movies, is that PJ has focused so much on the large battle scenes and the larger story, that the humanistic and emotional side will be smothered. The focus on Aragorn might cause this.

Also, Liv Tyler does not count as an emotional element unless it's nasua your want.

So just to see what might happen I typed my name in a google search.
There is another person with my same name who lives in California and is a wealthy ad executive and is part of an organization to restore Spanish Missions. Very cool.

You know there is a contemporary artist who specializes in protesting with public displays of mass nudity. I think the guy's name is Spencer Tunick. He's a photographer who gets large groups of people to go naked in a public space. I think I once heard that he got the entire audience at a rock concert to go "clothing optional" to protest censorship. I'm sure he was very upset about missing the entire GAP protest.

I'm still ambivelant to Firefly, this episode seemed like it's still setting things up. We got to know a little more about the gigantic cast of characters and some more about the world. There was also a psychotic killer.

I'm still not a huge fan of John Doe, it's not bad, but it just isn't standing out for me yet. Though it did talk more about Seattle and the Puget Sound area which is always good.

SciFI doesn't show Quantum Leap anymore. So that's one less reason to watch it.

Well, I'll never ceased to be surprised out how game designers can capitolize on a bad novel.

So um, Spirited Away was the most lucrative film for the weekend in theaters where it played. Well, maybe not, but it did average $17.3k per the 26 theaters where is played grossing $0.4m. That is the highest theater average for last weekend.

And Sprig, yes it is lower than 50%... much lower.

Yes, Abyss did flop at the theaters, however it went on to achieve cult status and is reknowned in the world of F/X. In fact, it is the first movie to incorporate CGI effects in the same manner as CGI effects used today. It also made breakthroughs in the realms of surface treatment and rendering of 3D models. As as side note: Tron may have used CGI earlier, but the effect and technology used was different.

Yes, the Aliens are not seen a lot in the movie, but the director's cut shows more. It is basicly, a Cold War thriller story, however, you do have to remember that the aliens start the whole thing by sinking the nuclear sub. So yes, they could replace the aliens with Russians, but it wouldn't be entirely the same story and they would lose all their cool FXs.
