I like the Floating Log in the village of Frogmorton... lovely accommodations and nice strong ale.

Excellent... but I guess that makes you wonder why you have to be so brave to drink it?

it doesn't say you have to be brave to drink it, only that it's the only brew fit for those who are brave.

I realize that technically it's outside the shire, but my vote is for the Prancing Pony. Finding man-sized beds in the Shire is likely to be difficult. Besides, they have some nice, cozy accomodations, and their ale comes in pints.
