Title: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on December 02, 2004, 04:09:26 PM
Sprig and Fell (and anyone else who wants to join): I thought I'd post some ideas for team restrictions and scenarios for the game we plan on playing next week.

So...some ideas:

- 400 pts., 2 subteams, each subteam must have at least 150 points, 6 starting positions on board, rotating between players (A, B, C, A, B, C)

- All women

- No fig over 60 (or 50, or 70, or 40, or whatever we decide)

- For every named fig you have to have a "generic" one

- Your fig titles must be in consecutive alphabetical order (you can start at any letter, z wraps to a.)  If you have a fig starting with M you have to have an N, unless M is the last figure in your "straight."  I.E. Firelord, Green Lantern, Hellboy, Iron Man, Joker, etc.

- No two figs on your team can have the same ability showing on their dial.  If they do, each fig with that ability loses that ability until they become the only fig on the team with the ability showing.

I like the alphabetical one the best, as it seems like it would encourage people to use some of their lesser-used figures without prohibiting any other figures.

Since it's going to be multiplayer and the typical "points for kills" system doesn't work quite as well, what if we come up with some alternate win conditions:

1. Each team has to include a figure with leadership and/or mastermind, and the other teams have to assassinate them

2. Maybe a Battlefield 1942-esque system, where you get 1 point for each turn you "control" certain points on the map. Kind of like playing four games of King of the Mountain at once.

I'm fine with what ever, though the only one on Kije's list that stands out is the Alphabetical one.  I don't care for lots of restrictions on team building, though a few are fine.  When building a team becomes more complicated the playing a game is when I loose intrest.  It just takes the fun out of the game.

As for Fell's 1942 idea, there's actualy unofficial alternaite rules for that with MageKnight since the object of tourny games usealy deal with captureing nodes, though they cacultate it just off of who has control of the most after x number of turns.

I like the assassinate the leader idea.  Are we going to play at Tage's or my place?  We can do either.

By the way - I wrote up some directions to my place that I will send to you, Fell.  Tuesday and Wednesday nights, correct?  I'll send them tonight to the address on your profile unless you say otherwise.  The directions will be in a Word attachment.

Well, crap. I found out late last night that my wife will be coming to Provo on Wednesday to look at houses, which means that I won't be in Provo either Tuesday or Wednesday nights. I'd prefer to reschedule this for next Monday, but we'll see.

No crap!  If it gets you into a house sooner, so much the better.

I mostly mean crap because it means I'll be making the trip between Logan and Provo six times this week instead of two.

Actually, with two members gone it appears that D&D is off this week, so Thursday would work really well for Heroclix (and for a guest room in the Kije residence). How does that sound?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on December 07, 2004, 06:41:34 PM
Okay, scratch everything and start over--the snow here is much worse in Logan, so rather than drive back and forth through it five times we're just going to wait and look at houses on Friday. So I'm in town tonight and tomorrow, and we can do Heroclix tomorrow, and so on. I suggest we do the alphabet idea, 400 points mixed environment, with any specific objectives or alternate win conditions determined when we get there. Who's with me?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game

sure, I'll be there.

I built my alphabet team using A through F, which is harder than it sounds because I only had one F and he was kind of pricey (technically I have two Fs, but I don't like Firelord and he's not even tourney-legal anymore). I don't know how good the team will be, but it uses some characters that I like but don't often play with, so that's cool.

I was thinking we could do it at Kije's house, but all my food is at Tage's so it makes more sense to do it there. I get off work around 7 (I'm working four 10s), so how about 7:30 or so at Tage's house?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on December 08, 2004, 11:15:58 AM
fine with me.  It's the same distance, more or less, as Kije's house so there's no real difference to me.

okay: 7:30, Tage's.  I'm debating whether to use G-I or A-E.

Wizkids has pictures of the next DC set *drool*

I had an B-E team in my mind, but thought it might be to easy to win since 3 of the figs were realy powerful.

Batman (vampire)
Checkmate Medic
Despero
Eclipso

While we're on the subject, three new team abilities for DC Legacy: a new wild card power, and two new powers that can't be copied by wild card powers. Interesting.

Looks pretty cool.  I'm interested to see the stats that go along with something like that.

So now that Fell is all moved in are you 2 (kije and Fell) wanting to start doing this again (though maybe not every Wensday).  Since Fell's house is more or less halfway inbetween mine and Kije's it would be a good place to do it.

I'm for it.  Although currently (and maybe indefinitely) we are a one car family and I may ask for rides at times.  And Fell's probably pretty busy with unpacking and whatnot.  But when everything's settled, I'm for it.

Oh, and check the Wizkids HC DC site...KC Flash.

Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on January 05, 2005, 08:24:16 PM
That's a cool-looking piece. I'm not convinced about the dial--I mean really, does Quake even fit the character? You can't even use it in conjunction with HSS. It would be nice if he had some Willpower to reflect the fact that he never stops moving, but I suppose they would have mentioned it. Still, as a fan of Kingdom Come I might have to collect him anyway--after I get Green Lantern, of course.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 05, 2005, 08:29:51 PM
I guess if you think of quake as Flash attacking all of the adjacent opponents one after the other, very fast, so that it's virtually instantaneous, it might fit.  Besides, his max damage is 2 anyways.  It's an expanded version of flurry in a way, excpet you can't target the same guy twice (but HSS gets you a version of that anyways.)
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on January 05, 2005, 11:50:38 PM
That actually makes a lot of sense. Still Quake seems like the current fad power in Heroclix design, the way Perplex was back when it first debuted--they just kind of stuck it everywhere, whether it made sense or not.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 06, 2005, 03:20:34 PM
Do you think they'll do any other KC this go around?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on January 06, 2005, 04:14:17 PM
I doubt it. Green Lantern and Flash are pretty much the last of the major KC characters (though I still think Lex would be cool, and I suppose that Hawkman would be fairly popular). I think they'll space the KC guys out, a little in each set.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game

We'll probably see more F4 in the next Marvel set, what with the movie and all.  When is the next Marvel set?  Have they announced it?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 13, 2005, 01:05:43 PM
So there's a poll up soliciting opinions about which characters they should include in the latest Marvel set (whenever that will be.)  On the Marvel site they show results, and for the hero it looks like most are choosing some guy named Cannonball.  Now I don't know a ton about these characters, but he seems one of the least interesting characters to be converted intoi a heroclix fig.  Basically, the guy's got charge, and probably leap/climb.  Who needs anotyher charger?

The character that caught my eye was the guy who could make copies of himself (Multiple Man or something.)  That would be really cool to see how they truned that concept into a fig.  I'm guessing they would use flurry and willpower to reflect his extra bodies.  Or maybe they'd make him as a pretty weak guy (strengthwise like a bystander token) but with the unique ability to spawn bystander token copies of himself.

I'm sure they could think of others ways to describe his powers.  That would be soemthing I'd like to see.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on January 13, 2005, 01:51:46 PM
Yeah, I voted for that guy too because he's just so unique. Spawning bystander tokens is a cool idea, but I doubt they'll make special rules for a relatively minor guy. I think your idea of flurry and willpower would work, plus a little perplex or probability control (since if the first copy misses, a second copy can take a shot).

Holy!!! A new Joker!  Whooo.  And he's got all most all the abilities in the game :).  Also happy to see Senestro, Ares, General Zod and Hush.  Dono why I like DC villans so much, but I do.

Wow, that new Joker made my day.  Though I am sad to see no enhancement ability in a DC set. Ahh my bad, Entragon (deamon) has enhancement.  Though he's a 119 pt figure (assumeing his veteren rank).

In fact here are the Joker stats for those that want to share in my joy.

Joker, 100 pt Bat-enemy
11 L/C
9 Incap
18 Toughness
2 OW
6 range 2 arrows
Other powers include (ready?) Stealth, RS, Charge, Poison, BCF, EE, Ppx, Willpower, Mastermind "and more" !

Also, are we going to do anything tonight?  We ca goto GPP or I've got that starwars mini book that I want to play before I review.

So I ended up at GPP last night, and won myself an LE Simon Masters (Wonder Man.)

And I learned that Ultimates Hawkeye is a pain magnet.  Just about every time I play with that guy, my opponent/s decide that he's the worst threat and move to take him out immediately.  It kind of stinks because he has no defense, but I've learned to use it to my advantage by having him draw all the heat while I get my real strategy rolling with the other figs.

small crowd.  There were four of us: me, two preteens I take are there just about every night, and a magic player the judge recruited to learn heroclix.

We played a team multiplayer, with me and a preteen vs. preteen and newbie (who was being coached gently by the judge.)  Newbie lost interest halfway through and judge took over for him.

My preteen teammate played a 300 point Sinestro.  I usually run a ranged team, and the judge's team (whcih he would have used if he didn't get the newbie to play was all ranged.)  Newbie played a mix of ranged and close combat, as did the other preteen.  I have seen older guys like us in there, who know the game well and usually kick my trash.  They'll bring tournament-caliber teams.  But most often the competition's been thin, and those preteens just don't get some aspects of strategy (but they're preteens, so I cut them that slack.)

The judge is a decent player and is better competition.  He's late teens.  This multiplayer format was the first I've seen, suggested by the owner (who was playing magic next to us.)  When it's four players they usually do a two round tourney.  I think this week was technically supposed to be a draft, but no one was planning on buying anything.  And I've never seen it be anything but open, 300 point affairs.

It would be really cool if you and Sprig decided to come more regularly.  It would nearly double the crowd and definitely add quality.  As it is, I don't mind playing the preteens.  I try and teach them subtly when I play so they get a better feel for how to use their powers, and I'd be lying if I didn't say that laying the serious smack down just feels good every once in a while.  Plus, easy prizes!  Hmm...maybe you guys should actually stay away...

Last night was my first night in a while, since mid October.  But my Wednesdays are more free nowadays.

Ya I just never make it on Wensdays, just because.  Though i should.  I was about to go last night but just decided I didn't want to.

from what I've gathered from GPP staff precons are their popular tournys since there's no fee to play.  The booster drafts usealy only have 2-3 people, and usealy aren't the good players.

Alright: I am officially going to GPP for HeroClix this Wednesday, so come one come all and we'll save each other from the 13-year-olds. I'm considering an X-Men/Alpha Flight team, because I love Havok so much, but 300 points is a little small for a good X-Men team. Maybe Fantastic Four with my shiny new Spider-man?

Kate has the car at her job 'til about 6:30 that night...I know it's out of the way but could I get a ride?  Pretty please?  It would only be to (not from) as she'll be picking me up afterwards to go somewhere else.

And the preteens love the X-Men.  You'd be the cat's meow if you showed up with an awesome X-Men team, I think.

You just have to promise not to specifically design a team to destroy my X-Men. Assuming I go with that idea--I'm still not sure.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 24, 2005, 05:25:47 PM
I won't design a team to specifically destroy X-Men...I'll just design a team to destroy in a general fashion.

I've thought about the teams that I build, and found that I tend to favor mid-size figs (60-90 points) and ranged figs.  One of my favorites is experienced Ultimates Cap: 89 points and powers abilities that allow for a variety of strategies.  Also nice: Vet Punisher, E or V Ultimates Hawkeye, V Deadpool, E Bishop, E Rasputin.

Maybe this time I'll do something completely different just for kicks...mmaybe mMystics...

Heh, yep pretty much.  Though I'll try not to rant about KC superman.  But where's the fun in makeing a 300 point team where one figure takes up about 75% of the points and could kill most of the other peoples figures in one hit, especialy if I use Rip it up, wow that would be a realy butt kicking Superman.

KC Superman isn't a gaurnteed win, though I would probaly tear through the 13 year olds like...Well superman through henchmen.  Fell could probaly beat me with that combo and so could Kije provideing a good team build.

Of course you've never seen my Joker team build.

Wait til you see my lame-o 300 point X-Men team. They don't get very good until 400, and you want 5 or 600 to erally get the engine running.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 25, 2005, 02:36:14 PM
My team is using two figs I've never used before.  And in another departure, it's mostly villain.  And I'm only using one mid-size utility fig.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on January 25, 2005, 04:28:32 PM
So with the addition of Ares, is KC Superman dethroned as the toughest fig around?  His attack and defense start one point higher, he starts with outwit, and imo Mystics is a better team ability than KC.

KC Supes has got him with flight, charge, and HSS, and his range is better.  I don't know...I guess you couldn't say for sure until Ares' whole dial is revealed.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game

YOu've also got KC GreenLantren to add to the mix.  He's got the highest defecnce in the game (at 21) and good ranged.

We're going to have to try some one-on-one battles here.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on January 26, 2005, 04:35:06 AM
Well we'll see how my team goes, I'm trying something new here and it's costing me extra points.  'Course I could change my mind by 6pm tonight.

I think I like drafts better becsaue I don't have to sort through lots of figures and am forced to build a better team.  For example, I realy want to use my V Scarecrow in my team, he's got dubble range with incompacitate as well as MC, but I've allready got 2 support peices and I can't have a 3rd (especialy at 65 pts).  That would only give me about 40 pts for a damage dealer and the best I could get with that would be a B/C/F character (like R cheetah).

I guess the biggest problem I have with games like this (includeing Magic) is that there are so many choices I usealy tend to stick to the same things, which are usealy the first few builds I ever tried.

Well it was fun.  I got second and Kije got third.

The kid that one 1st used a 300pt Sensetro and I totaly played it wrong.  I waited back for him to come (5 turns) and then started to attack, after he killed one of my peons he ran off and I had to chase him down.  The end of the game (after 10 turns) left him with 6 clicks left, so one more turn and I would have won.  I should have rushed him from the start.

Kije is allwayse a pain to play against, him and his stealth ranged attackers.  Our battle basicaly came down to the last few turns and the outcome was determined by some bad rolls.

My team was
U Joker
LE Harley Quinn
U Eclipso
E Lacky
E Metropolis SCU
E Checkmate Medic

So I'm assumeing you're both going to be playing tomorrow. Just a heads up one of the kids there last week was planning a team around Magog (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=6400&unitid=4859&universeid=6).  Personaly I can't think of any way to beat him besides another big bruser and an outwitter or two.

Right now I'm thinking of useing Amazo (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=4718&unitid=3399&universeid=6),Desparo (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=4721&unitid=3402&universeid=6) or The General (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figures_dials.asp?dialid=6439&unitid=4898&universeid=6)

I'm thinking the General or Desparo with Rip it up and the instant regen feat would be quite nasty.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 01, 2005, 11:30:10 AM
The General would be especially nasty with instant regen, because he has regen for six or so clicks.

I'm going to come, yes, and I'm going to have my X-Men team, Magog or no Magog. Do you need a ride, Kije?

I just don't want to loose to a 12 year old again.  Of course last time it was my mistake, but I'm not going to loose because of a silly team build.  I wouldn't mind looseing to someone more respectable (read: older) with a silly team.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 01, 2005, 12:33:42 PM
Here's what I'm thinking of using:

V Havok
V Iceman
V Gambit
V Beast
E Bishop

That leaves me with some extra points, but not enough to do much with (about 10). I suppose I could get a paramedic. Actually, the Passenger feat might be good for a quick getaway (and it's one of the only ones I have).
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on February 01, 2005, 01:07:31 PM
The only problem with that team is only one outwit, of course I'm baseing this off of fighting Magog.  Useing passenger is a good idea since you have a support person and useing that is a great way to get someone out of danger.  Especialy if you use it with beast since if he wants to heal someone in base combat with an opposeing figure you can just grab that fig and move away.  'Couse Beast could loose his support ability via the pushing damage, but thats where the X-men team ability would realy come in useful.

I want to take advantage of the Injustice Leauge's team ability but the only other decent brawler in that faction is Grundy, which I don't have.

Another option I'm thinking of is JSA

E Dr. Fate
E Black Atom

Black Atom is a good damage dealer and Dr. Fate with psychic blast and probability control would be a good combo.  Or useing Mordu and Dr. Fate.  Mordu is a great fig for the cost, outwit, willpower and psychic blast for 109 points.  And maybe finishing it out with Zantanna.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on February 01, 2005, 01:57:45 PM
Here's another team build

R Sgt. Rock
R Checkmate Medic
R Plastic Man
V Green Arrow
V Starman
U Batman (vampire)

That gives me Leadership, outwit, perplex to RCE with rage of 10 and Incompacitate and 2 stealthers.  And later on in the dial Batman gets B/C/F.

Also WK posted a new featcard either today or yesterday http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=6633

For 10 points one figure can never have it's damage reduced below 1.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 01, 2005, 03:01:04 PM
Yeah, Bishop is pretty much the only X-Man with Outwit (though I suppose I could use a wildcard, but that's cheating on the theme). Even a single Outwit can gimp a team built around a single bruiser, though, if used properly. The nice thing about this team is that it can deal a lot more damage than people expect, so dropping Magog's Impervious and smacking him for nine or so damage in one turn is not out of the question (hard to set up, but that's what makes it fun).

I have a GRundy you can use if you want--I know I have the Experienced version, and I think I have the Veteran. I'll check when I go home for lunch.

That's more or less what I told them, basicly "the other guys have wifes and kids, they don't have the time".

Though WoTC is going to be doing unique figs for their prizes ala Wizkids, though I think they're going to only have different pant jobs not different stats.

I'm trying a new version of my CC team.

Here's what I've got so far:

Rip it Up: 20 pts
Metallo: 149
Ultrahumanite: 80pts
and either
E Fury 48pts
or
R Grundy 48pts

I'd use grundy if I got him.

If I don't want to make a strict "everyone must have SS somewhere on thier dial" i'd make a Tean Titans group.  There are no TKers in TT, though I could add a GL to it.

V Cyborg 65pts
V Troia 98pts (or maybe E Troia for 18pts less)
V Starfire 88pts or V Hawk 69 pts

Though that team needs to be mixed around to include a TKer

We need to get Kije and 42 and anyone else who plays to start coming to these. Sure, with only two people we were both guaranteed a prize, but it's more fun with more people.

My idea for next week--some version of the Hulk, backed up with as many applicable feats as I can give him. Good times.

They posted the Jokers and Batmans dials today, I don't care much for the Jokers at first sight they change every dial (though he has about every power).  Batman is intersting, he dosen't get incompacitate until the end of his dial when he has toghness instead of willpower, but has exploit weaknees, charge and some other powers.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/products.asp?cid=39626

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/products.asp?cid=39627

I do want the LE of the Joker though, 26 points with 2 clicks of enhancement!

Batman has 3 different teams (outsiders, JLA, Batman) and the JLA version has probability control.  Also there are different enemies based off of the version of batman.  Ras Al ghoul, Joker, Hush.  And the 3 versions are very different, so they're almost like different figures.

one feat gives you, more or less, the mystic team ability

Harvey Bullock is a token with toughness and a team ability, though I'm sad he wont be a figre any time soon.
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=6641

The also added the LE Mr. Freeze, from a mail away,

Don't they announce these on WK site?  Becaue I do want this one.

Post by: Fellfrosch on February 15, 2005, 12:13:46 PM
Holy crap, that is a sweet Mr. Freeze. I really like both Batman and Joker, too, though Joker will obviously be hard to use. The Veteran has the best starting click, but he gets some weird combos later on; I'd really like to get the full REV set of both.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on February 15, 2005, 06:02:50 PM
After looking through the Joker's stats I can say I think it could be a really useful fig if you learn how to play it.  Unlike other figures who have such random stats like his, his dial changes and adjusts for his powers.  So when he has charge and Exploite weakness his damage and attack jump (4 damage on that!) and when he is a support figure his defence goes up.  Also if you're playing against someone who dosen't know how his dial works you can realy surprise them.

I was surprised with how well all their dials are, and am thinking WK really out did themselfs here.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 15, 2005, 06:38:28 PM
I agree. They've obviously planned the stats and powers of each click really well, on all eight of the preview figures. In the past you sometimes get the feeling that they just said, "let's give this guy some Poison" without really thinking about how well it would work.

On a subject change, DC really needs to contract Marvel/Toy Biz to make halfway decent action figures of their characters. Can you imagine an action figure of KC GL with 32+ points of articulation. I think that I shudder with pleasure just thinking about it.

Speaking of Green Lantern, did you know their bringing Hal Jordan back? It's a six-issue series they started back in October, and the two final issues come out next month. I'd love to track them down, but issue #1 has already sold out a fourth printing and I don't know if they'll do a fifth. I'll wait for the trade, I guess. well then maybe I'll use my killer Red Rocket team again!  Though I think one of the reason that team did so well was Fell's team was a little goofy and I didn't have much need for outwit.  That team would have a hard time killing Shazzam!.  Humm what to do, what to do.  Maybe I'll buy a few boosters of Legacy and go from there.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 01, 2005, 12:10:22 PM
I've contemplated that as well. Think I'll wait for the case, though.

Here's the other team I'm looking at, if you have any suggestions for it:

Kilowog (U)
Havok (V)
Psylocke (R)
Taskmaster (V)
Invisible Girl (R)

The whole team would be able to move together, Psylocke raises the two snipers' damage, Taskmaster slashes whoever gets too close, and Invisible Girl gives them all a ranged defense of 20. I'm not sure about Taskmaster--I think there might be a better use of those points, but I don't know what it is yet.

When I spoke with "the judge" he told me that next week's shindig was going to be on Saturday, as it was the premier booster draft for Legacy.  But I mentioned doing something on Wednesday night and he was open to playing then as well.  I don't know if there'll be any prizes, but I for one don't need another LE Wade Wilson.  If we all show up I'm sure we'll be able to play.  The usual suspects (Gino and the scraggly-haired kid) will probably be lurking there as well.  I will do my best to attend.

I'm hopeing to show up on Saturday, but I don't know about Wensday.  I guess it depends on how many people show up.  If there are no prizes I don't see why we should even bother playing there since everyone lives on the other end of town but me.

Well, I'm not entirely of the idea of where it is we would go. Sprig, or Kije, any idea where we should go? I still need to pick some clix up. But, as I've been told, apparently whomsoever wants to can come over to Tage's place here and we can play some games. So, be here, whenever I guess?

I say just meet at Tage's place (at 6:30 or so, if that's when people are available) and amuse yourselves with Heroclix or something until I get there at 8:30 or so. I'll bring Heroclix, Mechwarrior (a four-person game of that could be fun) and the new pirate game.

I can be there (at Tage's) around 6:30.

As far as picking new clix up: you can if you want to, although if you want to use some of mine that's perfectly fine.  While I can't speak for him Fell has also been willing to let others use his clix in the past, and he probably won't have any problem with it.  He's got a lot more than I do.

If you really want to go out and get some more I can take you to do that.  I went out last Saturday to see if I could pick up a booster of the latest set (DC Legacy) which was just released last week, and only found it at one store in Provo, and they only had 3-4 left at the time.  I'm not sure if anywhere else would have got some in in the meantime.  The stores do have boosters from other previous sets.

My clix go back to the first two sets, maybe 3. So, I could use an update.

Well, as I predicted, I was the only one to show up for the marque (why do you think I called you two).  So I walked away with Bruce Wayne and Jimmy Olsen!  I tried to get all 8 Jimmys, instead of Bruce, but the guy running it, Brian wasn't there, wouldn't give them to me as my prize.

I'll post my team as an article, but I did pull a V Joker and a LE Mr. Freeze (who's missing an arm for somereason).  Sorry, no GL Fell.

Post by: Fellfrosch on March 29, 2005, 01:56:38 PM
Assuming they're holding a game this week, I of course want to use my shiny new Green Lantern. That leaves me 75 points to fiddle with, and I've come up with a few good support characters that I want to run by you guys to see what you think.

The first plan is simply to use an Outwitter who can remove defensive powers and keep GL safe. The rookie Ra's Al Ghul would be good for this, but I think the rookie Joker is even better: his starting click is perfect Outwit support combined with good defense (17 with super senses), and he can toss out smoke clouds for an extra defensive boost. Rookie Joker also has the best clicks of all three jokers, in my opinion, so he could continue to be useful later on.

Plan B is to get a cheaper support piece and put both characters in contact with Oracle--this would give me two free Perplexes, so to speak, and still give me enough points for pretty good support. Abbey Chase is always good, with three defensive powers all stacked up to keep her Outwitting as needed; Lobster Johnson isn't quite as protected, but he could borrow the KC team ability to keep people from basing him. Nightwing is even less protected, since he has no stealth, but he's more aggressive and could make better use of Oracle.

I could follow that same plan but replace Outwit with Probability Control, using veteran Jinx (poorly protected but with Psychic Blast) or veteran Domino (stealth and super senses).

Plan D is just to use my golden boy, Veteran Taskmaster. He's exactly 75 points, very aggressive, hard to hit, and could borrow the KC team ability. He's too expensive to use with Oracle, but he has Perplex to keep things evened out. He starts off as an attacker and turns into support later on, which is backwards of my other plans but might work better.

I think Joker, Domino, and Taskmaster sound like the most fun, but Lobster Johnson could work pretty well. What do you think?

I just had an idea...
Why not use V Hawkeye (Ultimates)?  He's 73 points, and with GL carrying him around it would make for one monster of a ranged combat tank.  Between the two they have a combined damage of 7 and 5 ranged attacks.  And they both start with RCE.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 29, 2005, 05:38:39 PM
That's not a bad idea, though I don't have a V Hawkeye. I could replace him with...Havok, Maybe? only 8 range, though. I'll have to take a look at my collection.

edit: I just looked at some stats online, and Havok would actually be pretty good--he only has 1 ranged attack, but he's a little tougher on defense and is cheap enough that I could use In Contact With Oracle and have some left over for a paramedic.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game

I've got a V Hawkeye you could use if you wanted.  Then you wouldn't have to include a medic (yech.)
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on March 29, 2005, 07:48:33 PM
*sigh* I was really hopeing to use a new Joker team this week but that's crazy against KC GL, and KC Sups would basicly treat GL like Jimmy Olsen in this comic (http://www.superdickery.com/dick/3.html).  I'm just going to have to hope Kije and Fell spar in the first round and Ares goes down too.

I'm going to try and make a Hush team that could take you boys down, but It's going to be very, very hard.

Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on March 30, 2005, 02:11:26 AM
I think I'm going to name my firstborn Wade.  Boy or girl.

Oh - and I realized, Fell, that a team based on stealth would mess with KC GL pretty good.  He'd be forced to melee.  Which is why Hawkeye (V or E) would be a nice addition (Ultimates team ability.)

I don't know if I can make it this week.  If I can, I'll need a ride, and I won't know until about 5:30.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on March 30, 2005, 03:33:53 AM
I thought about that too Kije, but Fell could add trickshot for all but 4 clicks of it's dial.  With that a stealth team would get slaughtered by KC GL, and even if he was forced into melee GL is still a tough fighter that has a good defence and damage.  Plus an adverage steath team isn't high on the attack values, Hush only has a 10 attack only batman has higher from Legacy stealthers, so they're not going to hit that much unless you had lots of perplexer or police to buff up your attack.

I see KC GL a lot like Magog, a great figure for dealing with groups (since groups tend to have a lower adverage attack/defence) but not so great against other large figures.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 30, 2005, 11:35:16 AM
I was thinking about the stealth thing, but of the people who play at GPP currently I'm the most likely one to build a stealth team.

And I think GL is better than you're giving him credit for, Sprig, but I suppose I'll have to play with him a bit first.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Lieutenant Kije on March 30, 2005, 12:13:51 PM
I hadn't thought about Trick Shot - good call, Sprig.

The thing with KC GL is that his defensive strength is his high defense value.  He has no damage reduction, so if you can get around the high value with a decent hit it takes him down into a much more hittable range.  Just for the excercise I put together a team based on stealth, and got it where I could give V Punisher a 13 or 14 attack with RCE for 4 damage total.  After one hit like that and suddenly he's fair game for everyone.

But that Trick Shot...I would think that that feat is KC GL's best friend.  It makes him even better and more effective at something he's already awesome at.  If you're going to invest that many points in a fig, it's almost worth it to invest the extra for the feat to make sure he's effective.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 30, 2005, 12:49:34 PM
Trick Shot is certainly excellent, but I'm not convinced that it's better than In Contact With Oracle (and I doubt it would be worth it to have both). Oracle will help out against any team you face, whereas Trick Shot is either vital or useless depending on the enemy's powers. I guess it's not completely useless, but not nearly as useful as Oracle would be in the same situation.

edit: A GL with both feats backed up by a Rookie Ravager or a Veteran Tiger Lily is an interesting idea, though. I still think I'd be better of with Outwit or Probability Control. Maybe Black Cat?
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on March 30, 2005, 08:32:47 PM
Well I'm compaireing KC GL to KC Supes and Ares.  I can hit GL for 8 damage with supes in one hit and all I need to do is roll a 8, thats not hard Fell.  And I think I'm giveing him lots of credit since he can easyaly kick an adverage stealth teams butt without trick shot.

Actually, I think that I, like Kije before me, am going to stay out of GPP for a while--not because my wife demanded it or anything, but because I can tell that it bugs her and I want to avoid any problems. So how about this: once a week or so, after my kids are asleep, you and Kije and anyone else who wants to can come over and play. We can play Heroclix, SW minis, and whatever else. Sound good?

Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Spriggan on April 18, 2005, 08:38:54 PM
I think we are, since everyone said they could do it.

Few other things.

1) I didn't get that good of a trade at GPP, they only buy cards that are popular in tourny play.  Out of my stack I only got $7 from 4 cards and I convinced them to give me $25 for all my cards (about 30).  So basicaly I was able to get 2 boosters.

2) Ben said if we're welcome to show up anytime to play SWM if we want.  On Tuesdays they play 40k at around 6-6:30 but if we want to play SM at that time he's sure people would join in since not everyone is playing at once or some come just to watch and may want to play.

3) I got my Aerial Clone trooper captin so I'm almost content with Clone Strike, all I need now is Kit Fisto.  Yea!

btw, I've got a Heroclix figure review that should hit the submissions box sometime today.  I don't know how you're going to want to format these things (if you want a standard like Sprig's team building articles) so feel free to make the cosmetic changes necessary.  Please do work with me on any substantive changes, though.

No Kije, but Sprig and 42 and I played a round of Star Wars that was quite fun. I think General Grievous could have done much better with a better team design, because the droids aren't too shabby and he himself is pretty slick. I need to try my Bespin team, though.

Heck if I know. 6:30 I think, but we'll need official Spriggo sanction on that.

I think our plans for tabletop this week are to play one game of SW minis and one of Heroclix, and since 42 is probably coming as well we should have a nice balance (teams will work much better for SW than a free-for-all, and might even be fun for HC). I think we should try your reincarnation scenario.

what are the exact rules for tonight's HC game?  what's the max point total going to be for each figure and how many?

I'm not going to lug all my HC and SWM around tonight so I only want to bring what I'm going to use.
Title: Re: Next Wednesday's Game
Post by: Fellfrosch on April 28, 2005, 03:44:57 PM
Here's my suggestion:

SWM: 100 points each, but in teams (so it's kind of like 200). That will let us all play without worrying about the multiplayer discrepancies. Sprig and I can each make teams, and then Kije and 42 (if he comes) can jump in.

HC: 6 characters per team, 600 points max, no single character over 110. I see no reason to set a lower limit. We'll use the random reincarnation rules Kije outlined in his scenario article.

So I'm thinking of selling Ares on eBay so I can get my hands on an Ultimates Thor.  I think Thor is more useful (less expensive and easier to use for the point cost) and will hold his value better than Ares.

If I throw a Wade Wilson into the auction I think I should snag a fair enough price.  What say ye?

U Thor is a power creep character and way under priced in my opinion, but he is better then Ares.  You probably can get a decent price for him since Legacy had such a small run but I haven't been following prices for those two characters so I wouldn't know.

So I sold Ares...for $51!

wow that's impressive.   $51 pretty much covers how much in invested in the case though it's too bad we haven't played much sence getting it there are some cool figs in Legacy.

This up coming Saturday (25th) is the anniversary of the TWG brawl were we all got together and played Clix.  It's too bad Fell is busy or we could do this again (though without SE).

We'll have to do one, though.  I've been wanting to have a TWG Heroclix invitational, big multiplayer, for some time.  I've been thinking up scenario rules for good multiplayer, and was thinking of offering a prize (non-heroclix prize, but something anyone would enjoy.)

Following is a list of UT TWGers I know who have played before and might come:
Fell
Sprig
Kije
42
Prometheus
Morag
EUOL

Of course anyone else who is interested would be welcome! (including any non-UT people that care to be in town)

I might be able to come on the 25th, but I doubt it. I have July 5 off of work, if anyone else is in town.

I was thinking sometime in the future, not necessarily on the 25th.  Whatever works to get the most people there.

July fifth works for me but probably not as well for others like Morag.  Maybe that weekend (8th or 9th).

Umm ok that got shot down over IM.

I'm going to get the days everyone will be back from vacation and then play for something which looks like will be around the last week of July or sometime in August.

But that doesn't mean us three cannot meet the fifth and play anyway.

Sorry about yesterday - I was indisposed.  But I did get my U Thor!

The thing about him is that people see 12 attack, running shot, 5 dmg anti-stealth and start to freak.  His defense isn't anything to shout about though (he's only got one click of impervious, and he's never higher than 16.)  And aside from that initial running shot and the typical spectrum of damage reducers (imp-inv-tough) he has no powers.  (Well, he does have charge at the end, but who would use charge when you have 10 range anti-stealth?  So that's a fairly useless power.)

I realized the other day that all my favorite figs were Ultimates, which is another reason I picked up Thor.  So far I have collected U Thor, U Iron Man, E/V Cap, E/V Hawkeye, and V Black Widow.

From the rest of the team I'd like to get my hands on LE Natasha Romanova, LE Clint Barton, and V Scarlet Witch from FF.  Oh, and U Hulk.  That would be nice.

I know EUOL has his meeting Wednesday, and I've got home teaching, so that means Fell probably cannot do anything that day but are either of you up for something this Thursday?
