Err...I don't get it. http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog.php?date=1158044400
-
There's no place like Rome. There's no place like Rome.
-
home, rome
-
Lame.
-
I personally found it funny.
-
It's kind of hard to accidentally say Rome when you mean to say home.
But it was mildly amusing.
-
Lame.
Obviously you miss the point of BAD Pun Tuesday.
Next week's will be even worse.
Huzzah!
-
If anyone is interested, there is another of these up.
I think I'm getting a feel for the style of how I want to run these. However, I obviously need to work a little on presentation--particularly the text box. I think the one on last week's was better. Probably ought to spice it up with a border and a shadow or something like that.
-
This latest one about F. Baggins definitely had a Farside feel. Very nice.
-
I don't get it. What nickname?
-
The one that's not Frindo
-
Wait... I see a possible connection between frodo and afro, but...Frodo wasn't a nickname. Was it?
-
You're thinking too hard on this one. But I'll explain it--why not? Frodo wasn't a nickname, but what if it was? What if his real name had been Frindo, but because of that huge afro--or "fro," all his friends started calling him "Fro"do?
-
In fact, since the word hairdo is often shortened to do, it might be said that he had a "fro do."
-
What I don't get is why, if "Frindo" graduated in Home Economics, he made his buddy Sam do all the cooking. I mean, honestly!
-
I bet Frodo failed out of Home Ec. He couldn't pass his food handler's permit test when he couldn't get his head into the hair net.
Besides, Sam was a better cook. Frodo's way was to have Gollum bring them raw fish.

People are having trouble with this one. Too obscure a photo, you think? It was off of the soundtrack cover....

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH! I know, I know!
!!!Spoiler!!!
The Thing and I!
Right!? RIGHT?!
-
I got it right away. I even found this one to be a little witty.
-
I love that movie, particular that one song...
Once I was a man
Sent to outer space,
Past the stratosphere,
Hit by cosmic rays.
Now I am the Thing;
Have I changed a lot?
Some ways clearly so,
Others clearly not.
There are times I am the Thing
I am not sure of what I absolutely know.
Very often find confusion
In conclusion Reed concluded long ago.
I was born on Yancy Street,
Which, as a factoid, is not really worth a dime.
But you'll get a clobbering
Of which I never was more certain that it's time!
[Spoken]Is a clobberment...
-
Eric, that's awesome.
I'm glad people got it around here. Over on LJ I had a couple of posts of people not knowing which movie it was from--and since they were the first feedback I got on it, I worried that it was too obscure.
-
One of the first songs I ever sang for choir contest was "Getting to Know You." I love that movie.
-
"Shall We Dance" is my personal favorite. I'll bet Yul Brynner was a better dance partner than The Thing, though. Imagine that guy treading on your toes!
-
I like that one too. Much more danceable. But for a 7th-grader with a high voice, Getting to Know You was a lot of fun.

You know what? I bet those young whipper snappers over on LJ are more familiar with the 1999 Jody Foster movie, which is titled Anna and the King, and so they don't get the pun.
-
And some of us very young whipper-snappers had to ghost over it, before remembering the cartoon and/or Anna and the King versions. I really love that Getting to Kow you song, however. :)

Look of the separate Amphigory Eleven website.
Don't have it working completely in Firefox, there's always some CSS snippet I forget to get auto centering working in FF. Â I'm sure I'll remember it soon.
My only concern is the size of the site, the background image is 190k 90k (bumped it from 16bit to 8bit) itself. Â Guess if I set it to cache then at least that will one download once per visit.
It's supposed to be feature light until the site itself get's more popular, so I don't think there will be any other pages on this site, and yes this is just repeating what's on the blog.

Can I get a browser check for Safari and IE 6 please?  Also let me know if there are any other concerns, not sure if I'll be able to address anything since this isn't a very important site in the scheme of things. Thanks.
-
Hm, in Safari, the Amph 11 banner at the top is centered in the window, but the rest of the content isn't, and the background doesn't repeat at all--there's just a white strip to the right of where the background ends. Also, it's not meant to be functional yet, right? Since the buttons don't do anything. The rollovers work though.
-
Thanks Ookla. The center issue is the same for Safari and FF then, but I'm not sure what's causing the background not to repeat.
And no, it's not functional yet.
-
The script is more or less working now
http://www.brandonsanderson.com/amphigory/index.php
need to finish a few things (like FF compatibility) but those should be done soon.
