Must...have...ipod...
« on: February 17, 2004, 08:11:54 PM »
So, I'm thinking of buying one.  The thing is, I already have an mp3 player.  It's a Nomad, by Creative, and I really like it.  It just has two problems.

1)  It is bulky.  It's the size of a CD player, and quite a bit heavier.

2)  It won't play itunes songs.

So, what do you guys think?  Do I wait a bit longer and see if Creative gets on the ball and adds AAC support for their Nomad series, or do I just go get an ipod so I can be cool.

i think you should
a) buy the ipod
so you can
b) give me the mp3 player

:D

Seriously, do you have enough itunes songs to justify it? also, do you have the disposable income?

If yes to both, I don't see why you shouldn't buy it

Get a creative Muvo. They are 2 times the size of a fag lighter, and can hold 64megabtes of songs. Brilliant. Should be under a $100 by now as well.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

the thing is Entropy, he wants something that's compatable with itunes.  Don't know if it's even popular (or if it exisits) on the other side of the pond, but it's huge over here.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

oh I just looked up what Entropy was talking about, while they are cool (use USB and flash memory) they largest one you can get is 256megs, while the ipods hold gigs.  Big difference.  http://www.nomadworld.com/products/MuVo/

I think you should buy one because new toys like that are nifty.

BUT - be warned that iPods have a reputation for only lasting 12-16 months. Until the warranty is up;  after that the battery dies, and Apple makes it almost as expensive to replace the battery as to buy a new one.

This I have heard from 3 friends who own iPods, one of whom works for an Apple store, but you can google up a few articles about the subject should you choose

Last I heard, Apple was really worried about their bad press on the battery thing, so they had started some program for cheaply replacing batteries.

Entropy:  I really need the gigs of memory.  Too much music for 256 megs.

So, the real question is do I get one of these minis--which are just nifty, but they only have 4 gigs--or do I buy the 15 gig larger model for about the same price.

The biggun. Go with the biggun. Those mini's are seemingly worthless.

Ah, but they have a sort of refined sleekness to them.  They also come with a USB cable--which you have to buy separately, I've discovered, with the regular versions.

You didn't get a USB cable for your Nomad? Most of those things are pretty much the same. Am I right? Go with the Small, not the Mini.

I like MP3 CD players myself, like my own Kenwood. Holds a cd of Mp3s, which is cool cos you can just archive your collection at the same time.

get the bigger one. If the only additional cost is the cable, then you're in a good way still, imo.

I have an IRiver mp3 player. It's really light and compact, and it holds 128 Mb of songs. And on top of that, it only costs like $120.
