Title: Classic Traveller
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on April 16, 2003, 02:42:38 PM
Just curious if anyone on TWG plays CT, MT, TNE or MMT?

Wow I just realized that that was almost Military Acronym overload.

Ummm now to rephrase myself.
Does anyone on Time wasters Guide play Classic Traveller, Mega Traveller, Traveller New Era or Marc Millers Traveller?

I have recently rediscovered this great line and waqnt to share with everyone.

you'd know if you had,... CT was printed as little 8.5X5.5 books know as LBB's. CT & MT were part of the boxed game era. TNE and MMT were part of the core book era.
A really great all around game though. I sent in a review of CT yesterday so I guess It will be up soon.

Classic Traveller was one of the best (and still is IMHO  ;) Played it in the early toi mid eighties. Great game. Got side tracked with life when the next versions game out, but got back into it when GURPS released GURPS Traveller.

Nuff Said  :D

I've never played but never heard anything bad said about the game.

Hey, any game where your character can die during creation is okay by me!

I don't like it because I like a lot more control over my character's final development. so I chafe whenever I'm not getting what I like.

Well even the rulebook states that a character doesn't have to die. But they do need to stop their current tour and begin play.

And if that means you get no skills then so be it.

I know plenty of people with no skills.

Gurps Traveller goes completely against the spirit of CT.

Not to say its a bad game. But its hamstrung by the amount of depth it decides to go into (Paucity was a major selling point of CT) and the number of rules that get conviently left out for other supplements. Sadly the characters come out  a little too cookie cutter if packages are chosen, and the feeling of pushing the envelope with one more term was depresssingly absent.
