Brandon Sanderson / Re: Larasium?
« on: April 01, 2010, 04:42:15 PM »
The "god-mode" Larasium powered effect is a great idea. It would explain how TLR could have recovered from cutting his head off, burning in flames almost to bones, ripping off his skin and all the other stuff that happened to him ealier.

Where is that said and how could he?
I mean, there wasn't anything about it in the book.

And how exactly Kelsier ened up with Preservation's power?
I'm sorry, but I'm just after Elantris and Mistborn, with no alternative endings or stuff, so I know just some random messy basic stuff about Shards, Silver et cetera, et cetera.

Whoah, I heard about this series four times today only, in four different places on the Internet. Either it's a big coincidence or an omen, but either way, I think I am getting the first book as soon as I see it in any bookshop or library.

Books / Re: anyone else get sleepy when they read?

Frankly, reading is a thing that keeps me up and running when I get sleepy :)
I get sleepy when playing videogames sometimes, to be honest, but never when reading.

Music / Re: Great bands you've never heard of
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:32:19 AM »
Of the electronica genre, dance, pop and similiar ones, I'd reccomend:
- The Postal Service - I fell in love with this band, great vocal and the background unique among anything I ever heard, it's my all-time-favorite when it comes to both electronica and indie-pop. Too bad they released one album only, but if you're at least a little into this genres, it's going to be one of your favorite ones. I swear.
Nothing Better - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmaEYrmrY4I
Such Great Heights - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMOkfI7wCrI

- Royksopp - You might have heard about it, but if you didn't, well, you just got the name of one of my favorite bands to both be played in the background while doing anything or to simply lay down, put on the headphones, hit PLAY and forget about the world. Almost spiritual experience sometimes.
Someone Like Me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcFff0Og51Y
Happy Up Here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmcPeuf5aXo

I may write about rap and metal/rock genres, even though I don't listen to them as much, but I don't have much more time today.
- Imogen Heap / Frou Frou - Imogen is one of my favorite singers, and the most favorite solo artists of all. The main factor in her songs is her voice, which, believe me, is one of the best female voices of all the time. It's a perfect instrument, totally different than all the girly, sweet voices of all the radio stars you probably hear every day. Listen and you will know what I mean...
Frou Frou is Imogen's duo with Guy Sighsworth, although you can't really tell much difference between their songs and her own, maybe there's less vocal.
Just for Now, completely acapella - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25VGdNU3nrU
Headlock - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKZsZkH_MJc

Little Boots - A lovely electropop female singer. Even though I can't really point out what I like so much about her music, it's just something you can't resist to listen. It's just that you can easily put all her songs to the playlist and play it for a day over and over without even noticing it's repeating.

Well, if you're into this, could you by any chance say what's the name of this track?

A newbie's question - did Ruin or Preservation know about Hoid?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: On Feruchemical 'Mistings'
« on: March 28, 2010, 04:12:56 PM »
I agree with the Shapeshifter idea for now, since I haven't seen anything better.

Going back to the time/quantum physics discussion, I will just say this - as I see it, atium stores your age ONLY. Not the time, but the physical age of your body. Why? Because if it would really store the effects of time, we would get into stuff far more complicated than we saw in any of Brandon's books.
Let's just say, a feruchemist X stores his "time" in atium for a week. After he stops, somebody comes and slices him with a sword. X grabs his atium and takes his "time" back. Would the wound disappear? Would it appear again as he releases his atium?
And what would happen, if, instead, X would get stabbed while he was storing his "time"? Would that mean that the wound would disappear as he stops storing the "time", and then appear every time as he taps his atium?

And another thing. As we know, one of the most important things about feruchemy is the ability to choose, how much of an attribute to take from the metal. If atium stores age, it's logical and simple that you can look a little younger for a week, or look like a child for an hour.
But if it's really time, it wouldn't work like that, since it would just repeat what was happening to the feruchemist while he was storing the time in the atium. It would then happen faster or slower, but wouldn't in any way grand the ability to look much younger for a time.

And more. If X would store his "time", what exactly would be happening to him while he is storing it? Since the time itself would have less impact on him (as he is storing it in atium) it would mean that while he is storing it, he ages slower.

And this is not happening. We know that from Brandon's books that it's not working this way. So, I think that it stores only the physical age, not the time itself.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?
« on: March 28, 2010, 03:37:05 PM »
Went to a bookshop and saw Elantris. It had a nice cover, and since it was large enough*, I bought it. Been a fan ever since, even though Elantris and MB1 and 2 are the only Brandon's books printed in Poland. I had to order this ugly softcover and wait for it for a few weeks after reading MB2.

* Books in Poland are usually printed on wider paper than in US, which makes them much larger in size. For example, my Polish MB1 is around two times the size of my English MB3, even though it's around 200 pages shorter.

Video Games / Re: Mistborn RPG video game
« on: March 28, 2010, 12:13:07 AM »
The World of Warcraft showed everyone that simplicity is what everybody want from a MMO game. Not acrobatics, not a sandbox world, not moving around the world like Spiderman, but statistics, levels, numbers and stuff. For that, a Mistborn MMO would fail now, although in incoming games like APB or Sould and Blade we can see that maybe a new MMO era is coming.

But other than that, the world with thousands of Mistborn flying around would not be the world we loved so much. It would destroy the feeling. Sure we can use Mistings, but who would ever want to play a Misting?

But the single player version is something I would love to play. Take the great sandbox-based world from Prototype, hiding in shadows from Splinter Cell, fighting from Force Unleashed and there you have it, a perfect Mistborn RPG.
Only don't take the series' plot to the game, it doesn't fit at all.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Metalminds Question
« on: March 28, 2010, 12:00:52 AM »
Maybe he can not see the metal itself, but I don't think he had any trouble with seeing the power connected to the metal. Like, he couldn't see a metalmind, but he could see the information stored in it, for he saw not the metal, but the energy connected to it.

That would make sense. He couldn't see the allomantic powers of metal, for it was a Preservation's domain, but since feruchemy was natural, and hemalurgy was his, he could see and manipulate that power.

On the other side, Preservation would be able to make changes in feruchemy, and have a great influence on allomancers. Not control them like Ruin did, of course, for that wasn't his way.

And yes, I know that Peter gave the answer, and it's the most probable one, but I don't like it. Since it's not official, we can still make some speculations :)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Way of Kings Cover Art
« on: March 27, 2010, 11:49:44 PM »
The art is amazing, but isn't the name oversized? Instead of making epic name and middle-sized title, it should be the other way around, I think.

As for the atium-alloy question, the only clue we have is the malatum, which reversed the gold's effect, maybe the answer is as simple as that? It'd make a internal metal into external one.
But that makes me wonder, because Chromium and Nicrosil are reversed versions of aluminium and duralumin, and they are not their alloys, which could prove my theory wrong.
