So, I'm entering a portion of my current book where I have to devise a lot of names. Anyone want a Cameo? I could throw in something close to your name, or perhaps a version of one of your usernames, if you wish. Firstcomers get speaking parts.
-
Oh! Me!
Real Name: Ryan Strobe
-
oo! Oo! me! Me!
you'll have to twist it a bit, of course. But Eric, or any of my many animal nicks could potentially be done. Eric's probably the safest.
-
Well, Lord Rian Strobe just got added to the book. He's even got a line! (He asks a young lady to dance.)
I'll see what I can do with Eric when the next name shows up.
You'll have to wait a few years to see your doppelganger in print--projected publication of this particular book isn't until 2007 (though we might decided to flip it with WAY OF KINGS and publish it in 2006.)
-
is Stet Cannister making any sort of appearance here?
-
Hm, I'm in.
Maybe some variation along 'Elariel', another of my nicks. Or my name. Either or.
-
Heh. Stet is a writer, not a character. He really wants to author the "Arthur vs. Cthulhu" story, though.
-
Any chance of a noble knight/paladin character needing a name? Feel free to use "Swift", my old nick, since that probably suits the setting better.
-
eh, I allready have an important character in one of your other books sorta based off me so I guess I'm fine for now. But that one, as you once told me, probaly isn't going to get published.
But you should place a palladin in one of your books who's a defender of the perfect breakfast topping....mmmmm.....Jam.
-
I wish I had some Jam actually. There was none in the house this morning, so I had to skip breakfast cos toast without Jam is just so 1998.
-
then mount your noble steed sir palladin and go liberate some fair Jam from it's evil oppressors!
-
Eric is a writer too, but that doesn't prevent him from wanting cameos. Stet is, apparently, my nemesis.
-
Jeff likes camoes
-
No other girl has piped up yet, so I'll be the first girl here to say, "Me! Me!"
-
Hey, and I'll be the second girl (if'n you need more than one) to raise her hand and say, "Oh, oh! Pick me! Pick me!"
-
/me coughs
Hello. Going to use me, or have you already gotten me in there?
-
You just know you need a nutcase in there. Go Entropy!
-
You're welcome to use some variation of my name or username--that'd be fun! :)
-
Let's see here.
OutKast: Elariel is a good fantasy name--won't have any problems with that.
JP: No paladin/knight types in this book. Might be able to throw you into WAY OF KINGS, though, which is stuffed full of noble warriors in platemail hitting each other with magic swords. However, then you wouldn't be part of the official 'TWG Forum Cameo Book.' In this particular work, you'd have to settle for underground rebel warrior type.
Jeffe: Hum. I would have to tweak this name a bit. Your last name works well, though.
Stacer: Same as Jeffe. Hard to work a 'Stacy' into a fantasy novel. Do you want me to use a variation, a different nick, or a variation of your last name?
Tekiel: Can probably use that one straight-up, if you want.
Gemm: You're covered already.
Brenna: I can probably use this one straight too.
-
Woot. Thats awesome.
/me hugs EUOL.
-
I figured as much. Whitman is my last name, don't know what you might be able to do with that. If you come up with something interesting, I may just use it as my new nick, seeing as how I'm looking. (Or I might just go with norroway (which is just a Scottish-accent corruption of the word Norway). Maybe I should use Sweden or some variation thereof, seeing as how I'm Swedish, and we don't really like the Norwegians that much. ;D)
-
You could combine the two of us and have a character be the Mistress of Norroway.
Seriously, though, me too, me too!!
Wow, 2007? I'll be a mom then. Of a three-year-old. Woah.
-
Does that mean what I think it means, MoD?!!!
-
Well of course my real name Jeffry isnt sooo bad I dont remember giving you my last name, but I guess I did.
-
Geoffory sounds more Medievalish
-
Please don't spell it with a G
my name is a french varient spelling... but a G would be depressing.
-
Robison is fairly unusual, if you want to toss me in there. In fact, my middle name is Earl, so I could be the Earl of Robison, or something along those lines.
-
Why, yes, yes it does. :)
-
I'm just saying, a Geoffrey sounds more medievalish than Jeffry. OF course, you could always be Jelf
</torment>
-
Well, I've already told you this on IM, but CONGRATULATIONS, MoD! :)
You should have EUOL use your (soon-to-be) son's name--it's a good name. :D
-
Mathias Samuel.
And it would be ultra cool if his name appeared in one of your books.
-
I just want to be able to keep using this name. So my only request is that it be someone either really cool, funny, or mentioned in the background. Glad it works out so you don't have to change it, though. :)
-
Hey EUOL, thanks. And MoD, congrats.
*Obligatory dance of joy. For the former. Or the latter. hell, for the both of them*
-
Heheh... Entropy doesn't fit into a fantasy novel then. Apart from a bad guy who is really pretentious.
-
Well, Lord Rian Strobe just got added to the book.
Whoa!!!!!!!
-
What does Gemm do? What forth is he?
-
Ooo, how 'bout my name? Sminja...just kidding. You could use Samuel Sweney, or any variation on it. I know it doesn't sound very fantasy-like, but you could try...pretty please? ;D
-
Gemm is the court jester, who runs around in wierd clothing saying strange things.
-
MoD, you are TOTALLY EVIL for not telling us earlier than this!!!
-
MoD: Congrats! Now I HAVE to give your son a cameo. That would be awesome.
Okay, 'House Erikeller' just got mentioned as one of the major noble houses in the book. They probably won't have a big part, but they are weapons merchants, which I thought you might appreciate.
Gemm, I didn't so much as give you a character as base an entire cultural dialect off of your language patterns. They're a bunch of underground street punks who like to speak in a slang that (intentionally) confuses everyone else. There is a character in the book from that culture, though he's a few years younger than you.
-
yay! We will trod down the non-industrial complex war machine!
and MoD, you really need to find a better way to announce. What's the date, etc?
-
June 29th. Oohhh, Evil! (Good old Kids in the Hall)
Woot. That's awesome EUOL. I want that manuscript when you're done with it. And if you need any help with the "dialect" let me know. =P
-
and me? ;D
-
MoD, you are TOTALLY EVIL for not telling us earlier than this!!!
Why thank you. :D
Oh wait, that's not supposed to be a good thing, is it?
I'm sorry . . . I just couldn't figure out a cool way to announce. And we have no scanner to post ultrasound pictures. Anyone in UT have a scanner?
EUOL: There is an unborn child who likely now be your #1 fan. Thanks :D
-
we do, and I think Chris and Kristy do too.
-
Cool.
And while we're on the subject can I take you and Brenna out for promised sushi? I can't eat any, but. . . .
-
I will never ever say no to sushi. Is that one of those things you shouldn't eat when pregnant???
*reconsiders having children*
Maybe we could do it Saturday after Sam's bridal shower or something?
It's going to have to be a Saturday.
-
Hmm, I'll have to investigate Saturdays. We have roleplaying starting at 2 in the afternoon, but we're rapping up a campaign, so I'll check with my husband.
Suishi, and all raw meats, "might" carry toxoplasmosis which can harm the fetus. Since cats are major carriers (especially since they tend to kill birds and gofers and leave them on your doorstep as presents), if you grew up with cats you've probably already contracted the disease and built up an immunity to it. My doctor said I was probably fine since I had a cat growing up, but until I have the blood test done to see if I have built up an immunity, I decided to play it safe. And I can still have the suishi with crab and other cooked meats . . . but it's not the same.
So, you don't have to reconsider having children, because you're probably already immune. ;)
We can bring husbands if you'd like, but they have to pay for their own dinner. Whichever you both would prefer.
-
Please note the spelling of "wrapping" in the above context.
-
;D
No, this is a different kind of rp campaign, where you have to rap everything that your character says. It is very funny.
-
Wyrd is Bond (http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=rpgs;action=display;num=1078403645)?
-
Isn't that rp game restrict to a certain ethnic group to which I don't belong?
-
so does rapping, but that apparently didn't stop you. whitey.
-
This is not a good example . . . but that M&M guy is white too.
I know that's not how you spell his name and I don't care! :D
-
Along those same sushi lines, I just read a couple weeks ago that the FDA is advising pregnant women to not eat any shark, swordwish, tilefish, or sushi-grade tuna (cooked or raw) because of incredibly high mercury levels.
-
Just wanted to chime in with congrats. When are you due? My sister's due in July (space-out time--it might be June...), and I'm knitting her a baby blanket. Very exciting.
-
Well, all of those fishes are too expensive for me, but thanks for the advice.
I'm "due" June 29th. Not setting my hopes on it though, babies being independent sorts. He's getting really big though.
-
if the date is June 29, you're better off telling people July. Otherwise on June 1 you'll start getting lots of "why haven't you had your baby yet." Just a friendly word.
-
An interesting point. I've been telling everyong end of June.
I think I will reply to such questions with a blank look and, "What baby?"
-
Oohh! EVIL!
-
you could burst into tears and say "Stop making fun of my weight!"
-
Saturdays are the best for me too, MoD. I also would NEVER turn down sushi. :)
Also, you need to email me with a list of people you want to come to the baby shower and when you want me to hold the shower. I've got a few names, but I don't want to forget anyone.
-
k, hotmail account okay?
-
yup. I check my hotmail account all the time. The magegirl_19 one, anyways.
-
Okay, I sent it. I tried to provide as much information as I could.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
-
Wow, MoD is having a kid.
...
...
...Okay, now I feel old.
-
Why? Kaylynn just had a baby too.
-
I'm trying to figure that out too. while I am older than EUOL, it's not by much. And I have *3* kids.
-
My current theory is that EUOL long ago relegated me to the classification of "little sister type." It's always creepier when the younger siblings outpace you.
I could be wrong though.
-
i guess that's possible. That's how I think about you anyway.
But my little sister was married 6 months before me. so maybe I'm over it
plus, you haven't outpaced me, I guess.
-
Not much change of me outpacing you old man. ;)
-
please note the spelling of chance. (which is becoming my favorite line from this board, btw).
And now, for the real content of this post:
When I was your age we had to walk up hill both ways in the snow to the hospital to have babies. You kids have it so easy. And they came out of the women's navels! It was hard! You have it all with your regular births and such!
-
*blink*
Do you do these conversation stoppers at family reunions and such, or are we just special?
-
it hardly stopped the conversation. You flatter me. In my day we didn't use flattery. We had to speak poorly of each other. Compliments were essentially saying the least mean thing we could about each other. It was a hard life. And we didn't have shoes when we walked in the snow, which we had to do uphill both ways just to compliment each other.
-
/me laughs
Good one Saint.
And I really ought to pay more attention to my typing. My finger are, apparently, not very reliable.
Note: I just typed "really" as "realing" and the only way I noticed was I pasted the text into Word. This is actually getting quite scary.
-
Please note she either meant "fingers are" or "finger is"
:P
-
Nah. That was deliberate.
-
Thats what they all say.
-
Wow. Coming to this site and seeing threads like this makes me feel a bit lonely and depressed!
Anyway I would be amused to have a cameo...I've got no names to suggest though. I didn't even know you were (re)writing this book.
-
he could fuse your real and screen names. Something like Petromok
Or ookter
or Peter the Mok
eh? EH?!
Actually i find it cool that you showed up today. I was just looking at Ookla's web site today and wondering when I was finally going to cough up the cash for a CD or two.
-
Ookla! Yay! I know you have other, more important forums to manage, but it's always nice when you drop by to say hi.
Of course I'll work you in. I'll think of something.
-
Maybe I will try to be here more often now. Actually I mostly hate the TW forum; there's just so much juvenile repetitive stuff there. I guess it's still amusing to me from time to time, but my actions there are more policing others than enjoying myself. It would be nice to kick back and relax among people who know who I am.
But also I feel like I've become much more of an outsider here, if I ever really fit in. It's frustrating. I guess I go through stages where I'm independent and stages where I desperately need to be accepted as part of a group. But I'm also particular and easily get bored with things other people want to talk about. I also feel left behind with so many people here being of the non-single persuasion.
Maybe if I can stop spinning my wheels things will change. Maybe I just have low blood sugar and need to eat better.
-
Maybe I just have low blood sugar and need to eat better.
That's it. Because it certainly can't be because of singlehood. Sheesh, I'm still around. ;)
-
Ookla, you'll never be an outsider here. You'll always be welcome.
-
Does... does that mean I can't slap him down?
-
heal entropy!
no, you may not.
OtM is a long time friend of most of the old guard from TLE.
-
He was one of the original HERE THERE BE DRAGONS writing group that Fell, Tage, Prometheus, and I formed. He was editor at the same time that Fell and I were, and he helped us create the Uber-Issue, where we got Scott Card and Dave Farland/Wolverton to give us stories. He became a very good friend of ours during that time, and we've come to rely on his opinion regarding our books.
So, no. No smacky.
-
Incidentally, Please note SE's spelling of 'heal'. nice to know you're on track SE :)
-
/me again notes the spelling of "I'm not sure I care."
-
You probably shouldn't.
OtM of course you're accepted. Silly man.
If you count the newbies, there's still a lot more single people than married, so I think you're still in good company.
-
why's everyone picking that one line out of the paragraph...well, I guess that was the only thing I said that was very specific.
Entropy, maybe you should check the member list (you know, this one http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?action=mlall ) and look at where your name is and where my name is. ;)
I have to say I know only a certain percentage of the names people are using on the board...
I wasn't exactly an original in that writing group. I came in after Elantris (v. 1) was finished.
And I still can't update my profile here...when I click on profile it says
Untrapped Error:
No such file or directory at /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.6.1/CGI/Carp.pm line 312.
most of my profile info is wrong by now, including all the important stuff.
-
Ah. But the fact i have 110 times your posts indicates my contempt :P
-
That happened to me, too, Ookla--I ended up having to delete my old profile and get a new one. Which is why I appear to have been around a lot less than I really have been. I used to be on the first page. :'(
(Not that I posted much at first. I think I lurked for about a year.)
-
Tage may be able to fix that. Or EUOL.
-
EUOL said he could fix it before, but I guess he never got around to it.
-
I will get around to it this evening. If I don't, then feel free to pester me on the board until I do.
-
Yeah, EUOL is apparently a proponent of nagging, so nag him all you want.
-
Yeah, EUOL is apparently a proponent of nagging.
And yet he's not married?
-
Ookla: Should work now.
You insufferable women: I don't *like* nagging. I've just been told that I'm good at reminding people that they should be writing instead of doing other things.
-
EUOL: Hey, no need to get all uppity. I was just quoting what you said to Stacer.
Fuzzy: The girls that flock around him apparently haven't found the right tactic yet. ;)
-
Well, House Elariel and the Lady Stace Whiten just got cameos. House Elariel throws a party that some characters attend; Lady Whiten is a young woman that is supposedly one of characters' dates, but he ditches her. (Sorry. He's kind of like that.)
-
Hey, cool! Thankee!
-
Lady Whiten is a young woman that is supposedly one of characters' dates, but he ditches her. (Sorry. He's kind of like that.)
Wow, never been ditched on a date before! Better for it to happen in fiction than real life! :D
-
Okay, busy night.
First off, House Tekiel showed up in the book. In connection with that, I managed to work in House Geffenry and House Izenry.
My favorite for the night, however, is the appearance of Lord Charleir Entrone. He shows up only as a corpse, having been stabbed in the back while in a drunken stupor, but he has a reputation of being a twisted connoisseur of underground bloodfight gambling.
-
Ha ha entropy dies!!!
-
Not dies so much as never was alive. The first time we see his cameo character, his corpse is getting dumped out of a sack by one of the main character.
Somehow, that just seemed appropriate for Entropy.
-
/me is pleased
-
Well, it seems no one else can be as dialectually stunning as myself.
-
yeah, well, inventing new words that have no meaning tends to be a bit stunning.
-
/me is also pleased
-
Dialect - a language of sorts.
Dialectually - a language that stuns.
-
oh, so you assign meanings to these words, you just don't use them properly. Very well.
-
I don't have to use words properly when they make sense to me. =P
-
I never said you did. I was just making an observation about the phenomenon. If you're not trying to communicate, it shouldn't bother you that you're not communicating.
