It's not just "BEFORE" you can break them, it's so you can know HOW to break them effectively. Breaking rules, even consciously, means nothing if you're breaking them just to break them. If you're breaking them for a purpose that contributes to your work's object, that's impressive.

I, for once, have no argument with the extensive philosophy put forward here. 42 is right on, I think.
