Unusual Genres
« on: December 09, 2004, 07:02:57 PM »
I was thinking, a lot of genres dont get any love from game designers, like Gangland or Noir style games for example. Why cant 1920's Chi town be just as good a setting as Greyhawk or Rifts earth. So what unusual Genres would you like to see?

Well, I crave weird mixes.

Take one of my homebrew settings I've tinkered with over the years.

Desperation: 1948 - A post-apocalyptic pulp-action horror game set with a technology level of the early 1930's.

Interesting, I was always interested in a post apocylptic 1950's game, ... kind of like Alas Babylon...

That or a South Seas pulp adventure where everyone is a pilot of some kind with a vintage seaplane or aircraft.

But Maybe its cause I watched this show too much... http://www.goldmonkey.com/pics/tvguide.jpg

i actually made stats for all the Ducktails and Tale Spin characters in TMNT once. To be honest, Tale Spin has one of the coolest settings i've EVER seen on a TV show.

Tale Spin was an amazing setting. Would make a really cool RPG setting too, but would probably get botched.

I think something in that vein would be great to see.

Hey, I did a Tail Spin version of TMNT too. I have no idea where it is, but something like that would be cool.

That would defintaly be a cool After the Bomb custom TWG setting, though I think that actualy useing Tailspin would be restrictive since I all know we like to do our own thing and not stick to certain settings.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

It would certainly be an interesting twist, but I agree that there would have to be some expansion to the world.

my stats incorporated Tale Spin and Duck Tails (complete with the Justice Ducks) into one setting. That made it a combo pulp-era airplanes/superheroes setting. Pretty cool.

That definitely has some potential.  Did you include the air pirates from Tail spin as NPC villans?

THat was the plan. I hadn't statted them all though. I did, however, stat the Panda-La invaders and a number of the Duck Tales bad guys.

Oh, and St. Canard (Darkwing Duck's home) main personalities. I just made the entire Disney Afternoon one persistant setting.

I barely recall Tail Spin, but from the little I do, it would make an excellent setting.

Maybe I should turn the lego universe my friend and I made up to play lego with into a setting. It featured a spaceman who piloted a cargo plane, the staff of the airport, and the love interest with magic powers.
