Oh, Lord. Apologies for the necropost, but there needs to be a tutorial on how to write in Alethi now. This thread is pure gold.
"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

Bridge 4: Sitting Ducks since 1147Saw this idea and felt compelled to pull a draft together with ShirtMockup. Somebody mentioned bloodspattered text earlier in the thread -- I ran with that idea, as well.
or a bumper sticker with "Keep honking for just 10 more heartbeats..."?Oh, dear Lord. I would buy one of those in an instant.
You forgot your adjective
I could not even find a webpage for the company that optioned mistborn. Looks like a small startup.Once more, in BS's words: "They have great staff, they have great funding, they don't have access."
Does anyone know how the option process works? I think these development companies basically develop a script and a storyboard then try to sell it to a studio. Is that how it works? That's essentially it, unless a studio picks up an option directly (like Dreamworks did with Alcatraz and Universal did with WoT).
