A few among many:

Nemo by Nightwish
While Your Lips Are Still Red by Nightwish
Amaranth by Nightwish
Abandon by Kamelot
Heaven's A Lie by Lacuna Coil
Matt Uelmen's Diablo 2 Soundtrack
Clint Mansell's The Fountain Soundtrack

Downloaded some Nightwish to check em out.  Love 'em!  Fits right into my current trend.  Though, I like Tarja (sp?) a lot more than the new singer they got.  Only problem is I could only get the album Once on iTunes with her as lead vocals.  So I jumped onto Amazon and think I'll grab the rest of the early works today.

I've been getting into goth metal more and more lately.  (I'll not debate the exact definition of the genre, it's just what I call it :P).  Just downloaded the album Serpentine by Flowing Tears, it's excellent!

I actually don't know anything about the band Atreyu or their history.  Tbh, imo, their sound is something less than memorable.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to them, but amongst the plethora of artists out there they don't really stand out.   :-\

...Now that I think about it though, you could argue that point about any band.  I think the bands you tend to care more about are ones you are somehow personally/emotionally vested in.  As such, ask me my thoughts on AFI or Dispatch and I'd have more to say.  :P

5700 tracks and you have never heard of They Might Be Giants?  Something about that seems inherently wrong....

heehee yeah... well most of my music comes from the "people who bought this also bought these" lists in iTunes.  They Might Be Giants are quite unique.  It's funny actually, I was chatting with some people and someone quoted a line from Particle Man, but no one else in the group knew what it was from, they just thought he was making fun of Spider-Man, or at least if they did know it was from TMBG no one said anything.  This all happened yesterday and then today I come across the song.   :o

Hey Crux, I see you have Bullet for My Valentine on your most listened to list. Ever listen to any Killswitch Engage or As I Lay Dying? They are two fantastic Metalcore bands...

Though I don't own any songs by either, I'm familar with both.  Killswitch Engage actually has a song in Guitar Hero III :D

In the vien of BFMV I'd recommend:
Chiodos (as mentioned above) I LOVE this band!
Red

Along the lines of Killswitch and As I Lay Dying I really like:
August Burns Red
Atreyu
All That Remains
Kittie

And depending on how hardcore you want to go...
Job For A Cowboy

Excellent!  Thank's for the link.  I've never heard of They Might Be Giants, sounded good, downloading the album Flood right now.

My playcount is a little skewed since I switched from WMP to iTunes awhile back, but currently among my most listened to artists are:

Nobuo Uematsu (he's the composer of the music in the Final Fantasy video games, I got all the "Piano Collections" albums, they are wonderful!)
Bullet For My Valentine
Lily Allen
Imogen Heap
Blaqk Audio
The Shins
Clint Mansell (the soundtrack to The Fountain *highly recommend*)
Chiodos

So I'm curious, what among those are, lets say, the top 5 most listened to albums?

Sitting at a comptuer all day I end up listening to a lot of music and as such getting myself quite a large library that I am very proud of.

I got into downloading a lot of piano compositions (due to my love of the instrument and desire to master it myself one day...), so currently I'm listening to

Piano Concerto No.1 in E Minor, Op. 11: II. Romance (Larghetto) composed by Chopin performed by Charles Dutoit, Jorge Bolet & Orchestre symphonique de Montréal

Music / Re: Cool Lyrics the 2nd

unrelated to gemm's request just some cool lyrics

You said the cinders are falling like snow.
there is poetry in despair
And we sang with unrivaled beauty.
bitter elegies of savagery and eloquence.
Of blue and grey.
Strange, we ran down desperate streets and carved our names in
the flesh of the city.

The sun was stagnated somewhere beyond the rim of the horizon
and the darkness is a mystery of curves and lines.
Still, we lay under the emptiness and drifted slowly outward,
and somewhere in the wilderness we found salvation scratched
into the earth like a message.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: If Mistborn was a movie. . . .

aah, Browncoats at work.  it's a beautiful thing. :D

I had never thought about it before but I totally agree.  Summer has the persona of innocent but tough (if you don't think she can be tough see the new Terminator series lol).

Books / Re: What are you reading, part 3
« on: January 12, 2008, 04:40:00 PM »
Just finished Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians and I've now finally started on the Malazan series by Steven Erickson.  A co-worker had been reading it and kept coming in to work all excited to tell me about something that happened.  So I got book 1 Gardens Of The Moon and started on it this week.

On a side note, I just bought on ebay a 100 year old copy of The Divine Comedy :D  I love old books!

With all the squabbling of copyrights and fair use I got a kick out of this one.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?
« on: January 11, 2008, 12:14:30 AM »
I was bumming around a Barnes & Noble and came across Elantris in the new release shelf.  I had it read in week (which for me is insanely fast).  Absolutely loved it and couldn't wait for his next book. Then Mistborn came out, same thing happened with MB1, took me 5 days, MB2 took me 3 days...  I just couldn't put them down!  Less-than-3 Vin!

Site News / Re: Introduce yourself - right on!
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:27:14 PM »
Hello everyone!  My name is Tyler.  I'm 24 years old and have an AE in Electro-Mechanical Engineering (which I only mention because apparently having a degree is important...).  Currently I work for a company as a Computer Aided Draftsman and do a little self taught programming on the side to assist in automated drafting (mostly in AutoLISP, but yesterday I wrote my first VB program for Solidworks woot!).

Today is my first day visiting this site and grats to me for first introduction post of the new year!  I wandered on over here from Brandon Sanderson's site.  Been a huge fan of all his work since I picked up Elantris from the new release stand a few years back.  I typically just lurk sites like this but decided to register after I read through the FAQ.  The community peaked my interest.

I actually don't read books that often.  Just happened to be fortunate enough to pick up Elantris.  Video games on the other hand are one of my passions.  I have been playing video games as far back as I can remember.  Online most people know me by Crux.  Crux is my MMORPG character on Final Fantasy XI.  I've been hopelessly addicted to the game since the NA PS2 release.  Mostly I stick to RPG and FPS, and occasionally I'll pick up a fighter or an action/adventure.

Video games as I mentioned are just one of my passions, the other being movies.  I LOVE movies.  I'm not biased to one genre or another, I can and do watch movies from any genre.  I love owning movies as well, I don't pirate or download movies though so it's a pretty expensive addiction...  My Final Fantasy XI endgame linkshell, Foobar, has a php board that I post movie reviews on for fun.  I haven't been doing it long/often but I think I'm getting better at it.  Maybe I'll submit some movie reviews here eventually.  Feel free to visit foobarhq.com though to see some of my reviews.  I don't frequent the theater anymore though, so most of my "new" reviews are for movies that have just been released on DVD, BR, or HDDVD.

Oh one last thing, I relish a good religous debate.  I noticed quite a few verteran members are relgious, so if one breaks out, I'm there!
