Actually, the Inquisitors don't go around bare-chested. They wear tunics, hiding the spikes in their torsos--and for good reasons, which of course I can't tell ya because it would spoil reading the books. I'm not sure if you got the half-naked idea from one of inkthinker's sketches or something. Aaaanyhow, just the spikes through the eye sockets would be a tricky yet awesome thing to mimic in a costume.

Well...the half naked was really more my input - wanting to show off some spikes (probably what the artists were going for too).  I think it would look awesome, unfortunately it'd probably also get me arrested.

Kelsier was one crazy mom (his mother was just a fraud, not actually crazy) and an early Snapping away from having still more burden than he already had.

That musing aside...

It seems, from Zane's PoV that being unstable AND spiked would have been a bit redundant.

Hey Shadowkiller!

Don't know if you remember me...it's been years but it's Wolfsister.  If you don't remember me, that's fine too!  I think I wandered into your realm as part of a Plaid Ajah plot...considering the amount of alcohol involved, it only makes sense to forget!

I don't know about the atium savant. Spook got so used to having enhanced senses, whenever he ran out of tin he pretty much lost his senses. So it stands to reason an atium savant would get used burning atium and processing so much information so quickly that whenever they weren't burning atium they would have a hard time processing what is happening around them.

Frankly I think that (in the unlikely case where it could happen) an atium savant would be like an amphetamine addict - without the atium they'd probably be fatigued, depressed, suicidal and mildly insane.

If they have spikes...DO SHARE.  I want to go Hemalurgic one of these Halloweens.

I wonder how half-naked and pierced by fake metal spikes would go over with my friends?  Note...I'm female technically so this would look REALLY interesting.

I've been asked to post this here...

I thought it was less fan "art" than humor...but I guess it fits because I recall jokes popping up earlier in this thread.

The above is what happens when my roomie and I read things out of the corners of our eyes while listening to television in the background.

There's always another secret...

I wonder if being an Iron Misting would make one anemic.

Maybe in the next triology, the "modern" one, we'll be seeing Mistings popping Centrum knockoff tablets - after all, it SAYS "From A to Zinc".  Certainly more efficient than downing little vials of alcohol and metal filings all the time.  Centrum Allomancer tablets...that would rock.  My roomate and I would love to see them actually make these things for our entertainment.

Lol... All I can think about is "Centrum for Allomancers" now. That would be a hilarious commercial to watch. And we can't forget the special "Centrum Silver for Allomancers: Not completely useless!" pills, too.

You see!  My roomie and I were just discussing Centrum Silver and how this would put it in a different light.

I wonder if B.S. would actually make Allomancer tailored multivitamins in another trilogy - seems like a modern solution to the problem of getting metals in you quickly and efficiently.

Now I've got to go make a fake advertisement for the product...and figure out where to post it.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Book 3 Was In Store Days Before Release!
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:53:00 PM »
With any given book shipping is generally done so that the book arrives in stores and libraries 1-7 days prior to release.
Some places follow the rules, others totally ignore them and put their copies out early.

I remember working in a library and a store that sold books and unpacking and stocking massive troves of Harry Potter books one or two days before release.  Did I sneak a look at the table of contents?  Heck yes.  Genuine article.

The Potters got shelved, displayed or reserved AFTER closing on the night prior to release (I worked in the stores when the early books were coming out and the hype hadn't reached a high...so no all night release parties yet).

Even if we weren't readers  (which would be really odd in a bookstore or library) we had to reference the release date if it was a new release book prior to putting it out.  It was standard operating procedure and it took only a few minutes.  Sometimes this meant holding a book in back for a week before we could move it to a shelf or display.

Obviously someone was skipping steps at various bookstores if the release dates were ignored - I blame the management.

Ooooh.  The release date is right before my husband's birthday.
And he'll probably think that I bought him a cookbook when I bring home a Border's bag.  Ultimate cover up!

I've long been a lurker - if I recall, last time I saw a post on this sort of thing...

The only book in .PDF format from Mistborn is "The Final Empire" - that was distributed free by Tor a few months ago as part of the launch of their new website.

I don't think that WoA or HoA were ever done as .PDF or similar.  I've seen a lot of people asking.  My understanding is that the publishers and distributors believed there "just wasn't demand"...because, you know, we ALL want identical hardcovers!  Yes, I love hardcovers...I also like having a PDF to run searches on for terms or names and references.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Categories for metals: thoughts (HoA spoilers)

I suggest that our "missing" temporal metals are the pure and alloyed forms of a metal which would never have been tested due to reason of it being poisonous or hard to come by.

Something like Mercury, Platinum or similar.

105
Conjecture:  Since Atium/Malatium breaks the rules...and technically isn't a metal in the manner that the others are (the rest are just transition or poor metals, common enough on our Earth and found on the periodic table)...I was thinking that it's just a case of mistaken identity.  The similarity of one of the potential effects of cremating a god apparently was similar enough to the effects of burning gold to confuse people.

I suggest that perhaps our REAL temporal metals which would follow the rules were never discovered (because, let's face it, if there was any known alternative to Atium people would have been using it too or instead of Atium) and the mistake was never uncovered because they're things people would never dream of ingesting.  Like Platinum (generally rarer and more valuable in real life and fantasy), Mercury (because if it turned out you COULDN'T burn it...you'd have just poisoned yourself), or one of a host of other toxic and rare transition metals (because most of the Allomantic metals are among that group).
